how is your landfil bin? ours has barely anything in it

we now have a local op with plastic recycling
we have other usual recycling, cardboard, glass
we pay for garden waste collection
we do not have a food waste recycling so that would help even more
our landfill bin has barely anything in it, dog poo is a large culprit, that and vegetable peelings, tea bags

there are only 2 of us in the house now so we are just getting used to it

It is (weekly) bin day here and seeing this thread title prompted me to go and put them out.

Pictures are before and after animal poo bags added (perm resident cocker spaniel, great dane who visits every weekend and neighbourhood cats who poo in the front).

Almost nothing in it.
The stackers (pringles copy) crisp tube says not recyclable. There is a pair of old knickers which were falling apart, some ear buds and disposable contact lense containers (I know these can be saved and taken to collection points).

Green bin - all garden & kitchen waste, hen bedding waste, vacuum waste - which is dust, dog hair & dirt.
Blue bin - paper, cardboard, tins, glass, hard plastics.

Thin plastics, crisp packets etc are stuffed into a bread bag and periodically taken to Tesco or Coop. Before I started doing this the thin plastic waste was the majority of what went in my landfill bin.

How much of the recyclable waste actually ends up in landfill eventually, I don't know.

Resurrecting zombie threads should be a bannable offence

Posted before noticing this, but the contents of the thread are as valid now as they were in March. I probably would have still posted even if I had noticed the date.

Normally I'd agree, but this one has made interesting reading. All the comments are still valid, and it doesn't matter if people haven't RTFT before posting.

@icelollycraving I totally hear you on the amount of waste managing incontinence builds up.

I live alone but from pads alone I fill at least 2 x 50 litre bins per week (so about 200 litre bins worth per fortnight) I do use the reusable washable Kylie sheets to protect the bed and other measures to try and cut down on waste.. I recycle as much as possible but I still end up putting out 2 black bins + 1 brown / 1 blue on alternate weeks

Ours is emptied fortnight and its always full. Often have to tip run.
However our recycling system is shit.
Literally card paper bottles cans.
Not things like yoghurt pots, containers from like mushrooms etc.
6 of us.

We have a glass bin though

Hi folks

We closed this as it was reported as a zombie thread - but OP has been in touch and would like it open. It's not too old, so we've done that now!

Mine is always full of hay from the guinea pigs :P

MrsLargeEmbodied · 06/10/2022 07:11

my guineapigs hay/sawdust went in the garden waste

I make compost for the garden, so veg peelings get a second life there.
Cat food pouches are our worst culprit, along with dark coloured plastics. We fill about half a black bin liner a week on average.

We're not allowed to put it in ours :P my garden waste is always the fullest anyway, and we compost loads
