Wireless earphones that don't fall out!!

Hello, I really struggle keeping ear bud type earphones in my ears - maybe have deformed the shape of my ear canal from perpetual use of ear plugs at night Grin
Does anyone use any good ones that maybe have a clip or something to keep them in when running?
I currently don't listen to anything due to the frustration of them falling out, but I'm training for a half marathon and doing longer runs so would like a bit of music to accompany me.

I have exactly the same problem and also suspect my ears are just not made the same way as most people's. I have some ear phones with little clips that hook over the top of my ear. I can't tell you how happy I was to find ear phones I can wear! I do find sometimes the music goes quiet and then I realise the buds have popped out and are just merrily swinging in front of my ear. They're easy to push back in and it doesn't happen continually like with normal ear phones.

I had this problem for years. Mifo earbuds are AMAZING. They come with a variety of different sizes and they NEVER fall out. Not too pricey either. I've had mine about 18 months for HIIT workouts and running and even long runs they don't fall out. Ever.

Have you tried beats? I don’t get on with AirPods or other similar, but the beats ones on a flex are brilliant.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 24/03/2022 06:59

I had this problem. Bud type earphones -whether wired or wireless - always fall out. I got some Aftershokz bone conducting headphones (on a band), which sit outside my ear, which are amazing.

GentlyGentlyOhDear · 24/03/2022 06:59

Ooh will have a look at these suggestions thank you. I worry about spending too much and being really bloody disappointed that they don't work, as you can't really test drive and return earphones Grin

I can only use earbuds if I don’t move!

I have beats flex though and they are great.

BertieBotts · 24/03/2022 07:01

Is this another area where they are built on men's ears rather than women's? Hmm

Anyway, look at bone conductive headphones. They sit outside the ear, so solve the problem. Might be too expensive but worth a look as they also don't block sound so quite good from a safety point if view.

Flatandhappy · 24/03/2022 07:01

AirPod Pros come with a variety of the buds that go in your ear (I think maybe three?) that can be changed on the assumption that there will be one to suit everybody. They are expensive though.

Clymene · 24/03/2022 07:03

They are designed for men's ear canals. None of them work on me either (I have very small ears)

GentlyGentlyOhDear · 24/03/2022 07:08

Hadn't even thought it it was another area of male bias!!
The bone conduction ones sound like a good plan. I might have to up the mother's Day budget for myself 😉

Normal AirPods fall out for me but my airpod pro ones are fab. They have those sucky bits that go in the ear and create a seal so they don't budge. I can run miles in them without any issues.

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 24/03/2022 07:15

Aftershokz here too!

sweatergirl · 24/03/2022 07:20

Forget wireless in ear headphones!
Aftershokz all the way!

YoudaftChump · 24/03/2022 07:24

I have the same problem with with AirPods but use a sweatband when I'm running which works really well.

FinallyHere · 24/03/2022 07:48

I use both the bone conducting Shokz when I am awake and https://www.sleepphones.co.uk for when I'm going to sleep.

Worth splashing out on the 'effortless' kind which just rest in the charger (rather than unplugging the speakers to charge.

HumptySumptious · 24/03/2022 07:57

I was surprised to find that I can run in my AirPod Pros.

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 24/03/2022 07:59

Another one with “wrong ears”. I’ve never been able to wear ANY and now just use the ones that clip over the ear.

TomAllenWife · 24/03/2022 08:06

I've tried lots of in ear headphones and spent £££££ but none of them stay in my ears particularly when running

I recently bought a pair of on ear Beats and they are amazing for running I love them
I won't go back to ear buds

TomAllenWife · 24/03/2022 08:08

@EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter I tried ones that fold over the back of your ear too and even they wouldn't stay put
I have ridiculously small ears

Clymene · 24/03/2022 08:10

I have ones that hook over the top but they're not that comfortable. I have literally spent hundreds of pounds on different ear buds so I'm reluctant to fork out for another set that I have to bin!

ImInStealthMode · 24/03/2022 08:11

Came to say bone conduction! They're brilliant, and they're the only type of headphones that are allowed in a lot of big organised runs / races.

CMOTDibbler · 24/03/2022 08:18

I can't do in ear either. I have Aftershokz and they are brilliant, with the added bonus of still being able to hear round me

ifellintoarabbithole · 24/03/2022 08:31

Another here with crappy shaped ears! I've always struggled with any ear buds, wired or otherwise, but have recently had success with Google Pixel Buds. They have a little rubber prong that bends inside the curly ridge of your ear that keeps them in place. Really clever design! Mind you, haven't tried running with them, but they seem pretty firm when in place.

FrankGrillosFloof · 24/03/2022 08:51

Having lost 3 pairs of buds in the last 6 months (I cycle in busy traffic so no opportunity to stop and go back when one falls out) at a cost of more than £300, I bought a pair that clips over your ears for £20 from amazon. The sound quality isn’t amazing but they’re secure and the battery has lasted weeks so far.

But just to let you know, most manufacturers that I’ve come across do let you return them if you try them and find they don’t stay in.

AeroMocha · 24/03/2022 08:52

yeah me too. Even air pod pros fall out, with the smallest buds.

But on amazon I found a few places that did XS size tips that you can replace the air pod tips with, and they are sort of OK. I have to watch them if I move around too much.

You can also get silicone non-slip covers for them, which help hold them in place, if the problem is that they fit initially but work their way out.

Or a whole variety of hooks to go over the ear; extensions to press against the inner bit of your outside ear, if that makes sense; etc to hold them in place.
