Lighthearted- how much effort do you put in at your job?

Workingmerking · 20/03/2022 19:34

I’d say I average at around 70% effort. Sometimes I work so hard and other times I know I could do more. As as general rule I know I could work harder and always say I will but usually doesn’t happen. I think it’s because I work alone in my own office so no one around to see what I’m doing or not doing in my case.

Let me hear your numbers!

60-70%, I don't like to overstretch myself, better to hold something back for busier times.

ZaraSizeMedium · 20/03/2022 19:37

I’m self employed so have to give it 95 to 100% all the time or I’d have no business. Definitely have days where I feel like I just CBA but have to plough on through.

Nidan2Sandan · 20/03/2022 19:38

Depends on workload.

Some times are insanely busy (like this past couple of weeks have been) and so I have to work non stop flat out, 110%.

Other times it's much quieter and I can do as little as 20%. But my job is to be there when shit hits the fan.

GalactatingGoddess · 20/03/2022 19:38

60-70, don't want to burn out and due to start a masters this year with a young DC so need to keep myself sane! Lucky enough to wfh though so I can manage my time well

PartyPlan · 20/03/2022 19:40

Probably about 70% too. Work seem to think the sun shines out of my bottom though, so I’m doing well. Can only imagine if I put more effort in what I could achieve.

I could put more effort in to learning and advancing but I don’t have the mental capacity with young kids just now.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 20/03/2022 19:41

Hmm. I run a big charity project. I’m woefully underpaid (I know pay =/= reason to give it my all) but I definitely vary 50-70% depending. I have some volunteers who routinely give it 100% or close to. For free. Weekly. It’s just amazing.

Yellowleadbetter · 20/03/2022 19:41

110% up till recently.
Now 100%.

New job so learning the ropes, such a lot to learn so I’m full steam ahead but within working hours.

Previously and my reason for leaving, over and above, long long hours with no extra pay, extra shifts, put heart and soul in. (Nurse)

Burned out. Exhaustion. No appreciation. No thanks. Never enough.

A shit show.

scootalucy · 20/03/2022 19:43

I'm at about 60% although for many many years it was 100% all the time. Know my stuff now but 20 years to go at work so trying not to burn out (again).

Cravingcake · 20/03/2022 19:44

I’m super lucky that I work because I want to not because I have to. Therefore I actually really enjoy my job and have proper job satisfaction and would say I give 95% on an average week.

FindingMeno · 20/03/2022 19:45

Variable.
Sometimes I'm like a ninja which balances the times when I cba.

Dreamtheimpossibledream · 20/03/2022 19:46

100% for years and years. Probably why I feel so burnt out.

Reading the posts above are quite eye opening : my company expects so much I just thought everyone did similar.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/03/2022 19:47

90% I'd say. I'm part time, 28 hours so I don't feel exhausted. Some days I can't really be arsed but my job doesn't require much brain work so I can do it without thinking much.

worriedaboutmoney2022 · 20/03/2022 19:48

Employed by the nhs in an admin role

Morale is very low and expectations are ridiculous

Whatever we do is never enough someone is always moaning or coming up with some hairbrain scheme to try to save money

All my team work extremely hard and some are only band 2 which is barely above minimum wage it's outrageous

Fridafever · 20/03/2022 19:50

Massively varies. Sometimes I try really hard other times I really coast. I feel guilty sometimes but I don’t think anyone can really keep at 100% - I can’t anyway.

ImInStealthMode · 20/03/2022 19:50

Varies wildly. 120% some days (usually when shit has hit the fan), 95-100% most of the time, the occasional day about 20%.

I don't beat myself up about the odd 20% day. I know my employer gets their moneys worth from me in the long term.

SpringSpringTime · 20/03/2022 19:50

Oh great question though. 70% with occasional bouts of heroism. I can’t go over that in any serious way as I burn out, and find that work becomes very very stressful when I care too much about it. I have a lovely job with a lot of steering power and a great team so it’s sometimes tempting to go full throttle, but then I get pissed off with everyone and then get a virus. It’s like emotional/physical clockwork.

WasntAllThat · 20/03/2022 19:51

I’m a member of SLT at a secondary school. I can honestly say I have never worked so hard in my entire life.

I work at 100% effort and I put my absolute heart and soul into things while I’m at school, from when I get in at 7am to when I leave at 5pm, with no breaks. I also work at least one evening minimum and half a day minimum at the weekend.

The last hour of the day, when the kids have gone, I maybe drop to about 75% effort. I try to tidy up admin for the following day, but my energy isn’t always there after a full day on my feet trouble shooting!

Neolara · 20/03/2022 19:55

I usually work about 20% over my contracted hours, it's absolutely full on all the time and I usually only take about 20 mins for lunch. Fortunately I only work 3 days a week because I don't know how I could keep up the pace if I worked every day.

garlictwist · 20/03/2022 19:56

I do the bare minimum I can get away with. Amazingly I always get good reviews so I must manage to pull the wool but I often wonder how or why they seem to rate me when I don't think I'm very good or that I give much of a shit.

dahliaaa · 20/03/2022 19:56

I was 110% for more than two decades. I'm 'trying' to be more 70-80% on a day to day basis now - with the flex to go back up again on days when it's really needed.
I just can't keep up that pace everyday now and it was really having a personal impact.

flipflopjump · 20/03/2022 19:57

@worriedaboutmoney2022 I really appreciate the pressure our admin staff are under. We can't do without them!
NHS = never less than 100%

Elsielouise13 · 20/03/2022 19:58

Average 100% with bursts of 120% and short flings of 80%

All depends on the schedule or the state of the ‘fan’.

Twiglets1 · 20/03/2022 19:59

I work with school children and if I like them I give 100% but if they’re little shits with no manners I give about 50%.
I’m exaggerating of course. It’s actually less than that.

nordica · 20/03/2022 20:00

My work is quite visible in the sense that I have to do certain things by a certain time or we'll miss important deadlines. So most of the time I need to put the effort in at least 90% to get everything done. I'm naturally quite quick though which helps, sometimes I do the thing quickly and then take some extra time making it better.

AndAllOurYesterdays · 20/03/2022 20:01

I coast along at about 65 per cent with bouts of cranking it all the way up to 100. I have a pretty senior job but I don't find it challenging any more. Eventually I'll get bored and leave but for now it's fine. The work load it's still high, I always do over my hours, but I don't feel I need to out that much effort in to get the result I want.
