Lighthearted- how much effort do you put in at your job?

I’d say I average at around 70% effort. Sometimes I work so hard and other times I know I could do more. As as general rule I know I could work harder and always say I will but usually doesn’t happen. I think it’s because I work alone in my own office so no one around to see what I’m doing or not doing in my case.

Let me hear your numbers!

Quite a bit as l have a pick rate, but saying that the time goes quick, l listen to background music as l' m picking, and the job keeps me very fit, 53 and slim as a rake. l still make time to talk to customers and other members of staff, we are always finished by 12 noon, then l have rest of day to myself and dont give it another thought.

So, what's the answer to all of this then? There are lots of people saying they give 100% all the time, and that they have it will burn out at some point. And then there are other people saying they give more than 100%, which isn't possible, but IKNWYM. I want to work hard, both for myself and for my employer, but I need that to be sustainable in the longer term as well.

My workload is over 100%, and I work unpaid overtime.

That means I give more than 100% IMO.

It is absolutely unsustainable, but I have tried to raise it with my emplyer to no avail. I will have to seek a new job, obviously.

Usually 110 per cent, very occasionally 95 per cent and a gloriously rare day of 60 per cent.

It’s exhausting.

Far too fucking much at certain times and on certain projects so then I dial it in as much as possible the rest of the time. Desperate for a job where I can coast!

95%-100%. I’m a teacher and the expectations are impossible. We do not have enough time to do anything properly. In addition to the planning, resourcing, teaching and marking, we are also responsible for so many low-skilled, non-teaching tasks which fill up all of the time and mental bandwidth which should be spent on more important things. I’m so burned out and I think most teachers are feeling the same way.

80-90% with the odd day when at home at 50% and a few days here and there at 110% (normally before time off).

I am so jealous - mine is 'if it isn't done today, we will lose hard cash' so nothing can wait.

I hate my job, never had this before.

20%… if that. Teacher. ‘Senior staff’ earn double what I do, for zero extra responsibilities. So, I can’t bring myself to outperform them for half the wage… which means, I have to set my bar very low

I've had a period of ill-health and workplace politics have made me realise it isn't worth putting in 100% anymore. Employers don't give back in return. I vary between bouts of 100 still when I have a deadline and then will coast for a bit, sometimes down to 20%, but an average cba day is about 50%

80 to 90% effort. Am self-employed and work between 3 and 4 days a week. As already mentioned above it is all down to me. So if I don't crack on then diddly squat income.

Depends on workload and what's going on. Reason why I love my job is that no two days are the same. Some days it's 100% and even that's not good other days I've put in like 4% and I'd still got what I've needed to complete achieved

About 50% if I can get away with it but often end up between 80% and 90% and feel disgruntled because they don't pay enough for that much of my energy

I'm self-employed.

I give 100% to all the jobs I book, but I deliberately turn clients down so I'm not constantly busy and have plenty of down time. My job is really physically tiring so I can't work 7-8 hours day-in, day-out without burning out.

Today, for example, I was up at 6am for a cat-visit, did dog walks from 8.30-12.30, then had the afternoon off before doing a horse feed/muck out and another cat visit around 4.30pm.

But I was on an 11 hour pet-sit yesterday and didn't get to bed until 1am so I needed to plan the afternoon off so I didn't fall asleep mid-walk Grin

95%. I reckon in the last 2 months I had 3-4 slack days where I felt burned out. But I usually make that up as the work has to get done. So it is probably 100%!

Used to be 100%, but I am worn out. I officially work 3 days a week, but spend most of my days off working as well. I am a secondary school teacher. Work expects me to log on for pointless training and meetings on my days off, as well as use my free time to mark pointless extra mock exams and set cover work for colleagues who are on maternity leave and therefore should be covered by actual teachers who set their own work. I am not even a senior or middle leader, I am just a part time classroom teacher. I love my students but have also reached a realisation that they don't take in most if what I teach them, so why stress myself out over it? I cover the curriculum, we do relevant tasks and I provide feedback and encouragement but I'm no longer desperately scrabbling around trying to find ways to get Year 10 to understand A Christmas Carol. I've taught it to them- it's their job to learn it.

My colleagues mostly roar about at around 250%, like educational Typhoon jets. I hobble along at around 70%, like an old donkey.

As of today I'm an old donkey. Can't keep jumping through SLT hoops anymore. Head visions of career progression but didn't even make it though to the final interview of a HoD interview today- spent the weekend being horrible to my daughter as I was so stressed. Officially over it.

I would say 80%.
I'm very quick and experienced so I could complete my work for the day and go home a couple hours earlier- but that's not how it works!

I actually only work 2 days a week as I find it draining to be around people too much.
I work mostly alone the other 3 days doing my own projects. I probably work 30% those days - but I get a lot done and couldn't really go harder as I would burn out (Non-NT)
