Are there any new-ish movies that REALLY scratch the Indiana Jones itch?

DH and I have got flu (not covid, we're proudly flying the flag for good old-fashioned flu in this house) and are fit for nothing but vegging out with movies and snacks this afternoon. Can anyone recommend a movie that has all the fast-paced, slightly corny archeology/mystery/puzzle-solving, 'grown-up Famous Five plot' elements of Indiana Jones? We've seen the National Treasure films and all the Dan Brown adaptations.

Jungle Cruise, perhaps?

Just googled that and it actually looks really good! Thank you Flowers Cake

Jumanji welcome to the jungle

Burghwallis · 20/03/2022 15:04

It’s not newish but National Treasure with Nicolas Cage

FindMeInTheSunshine · 20/03/2022 15:22

Definitely Jungle Cruise - my husband and I talked about how it harked back to the Indiana Jones films!

Arucanafeather · 20/03/2022 15:25

Jungle Cruse was the only one I could think of too. I would love to know if anyone knows of any others. I love Indiana Jones - he was most definitely my first crush!

Redannie118 · 20/03/2022 15:28

The new Laura Croft is very good.
Red notice on Netflix with Ryan Reynolds is brilliant. He even hums the Indiana Jones theme tune at one point!
Army of thieves also on Netflix.

Charette · 20/03/2022 15:30

Another The Rock film — Red Notice. Not quite so archaeology-focused, but there are ancient artefacts, Nazi art thefts, a quest, comic action/escape sequences, and it’s light-hearted and plays on some of the same kind of territory as IJ.

Charette · 20/03/2022 15:31

X-post with @Redannie118.

Red Notice is bad but enjoyably do. Definitely good flu-watching fodder.

The new Jumanji films are good too.

NEE1302 · 20/03/2022 15:38

The Kings Man

Arucanafeather · 20/03/2022 15:44

Oh yes Red Notice is enjoyable. Also, not the same genre but equally enjoyable was “Free Guy”. Also he’s in another film just come out that’s similar vibe although more sci fi - The Adam Project.

Hospedia · 20/03/2022 15:48

I don't knownif it's available to stream yet but Uncharted was surprisingly good and very Indiana Jones.

BeyondMyWits · 20/03/2022 15:54

Enola Holmes was good.

BeyondMyWits · 20/03/2022 15:56

Ooohhh and totally agree, the Adam Project... even though a bit of a different genre was a rollicking good film.

RandomDent · 20/03/2022 15:58

Weirdly, the Dora the Explorer movie was good.

SpottyBumPony · 20/03/2022 16:03

What about Sahara? Clive Cussler adaptation with heroes, bad guys and treasure

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 20/03/2022 16:07

Olympus has fallen and sequels. Ridiculously silly.

TheUndoingProject · 20/03/2022 16:11

I second Sahara, which I really enjoyed. Red notice is also good.

turkeyboots · 20/03/2022 16:16

Uncharted. DS says it's an Indiana Jones rip off.

hotpotnoodles · 20/03/2022 16:18

I love treasure hunt, adventure type movies,

National Treasure 1 & 2
Fools Gold
Journey to the centre of the earth. There’s the original with Brendan Fraser and another with a Dwayne Johnson

Livpool · 20/03/2022 16:43

The 2 newer Jumanji movies are good

Dogmum40 · 20/03/2022 16:45

The newish Lara Croft film or even the Angelina Jolie one of you haven’t seen it 👍
