Air fryers

liveforsummer · 17/03/2022 18:43

Possibly like others, I want to stop using my oven completely. Looking for recommendations on air fryers or multi cookers I don't have loads of space to have loads of gadgets. I want to be able to make roasts as well as freezer food, jacket potatoes, bacon, would be nice to be able to do both potatoes and meat if that's possible. Bonus points for links Smile

This thread is a bit old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for air fryers, we’ve recently updated our best air fryer page with loads of great versatile options, as rated by real Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

We've just bought this one:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07N8QY3YH/ref=cmswwrcppapigltti3Y23XXGH63PEA9SHRXDG??encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Loving it so far- crispy bacon in 8 minutes!

It's not too big either and currently sits on the counter top although I'd prefer out of sight as they are not prettiest of appliances...

TroysMammy · 17/03/2022 19:16

I've got a Cosori 5.5. I use it on average once a day, it will be twice today though.

Unless I'm cooking e.g. a Sunday roast type meal with rice pudding for dessert that is the only time I use my oven these days. I cook a whole chicken in the airfryer if it's to be eaten otherwise.

I warm up croissants, takes minutes. Jacket potato 5 mins in microwave and about 10 mins in the airfryer. I've made frittata, falafels, chips including reheated chip shop chips, bacon and sausages to name a few things. Tonight it's gnocchi and broccoli in a Stilton cheese sauce.

liveforsummer · 17/03/2022 19:20

Thank you. Interesting both posts recommending the same fryer. Would it be possible to chuck potatoes in with a chicken do you think?

I find it handy for doing my 5 year olds tea if he's not eating what the rest of us are. Things like nuggets, chicken poppers, fish fingers etc are so quick and come out evenly crispy. I usually make our main meal in my pressure cooker, so rarely use my oven now.

sophienelisse · 17/03/2022 19:24

I have a ninja foodie. I don't use my oven much as it's good for the things we eat.

I haven't tried the slow cook options yet but I will once it gets colder again

Sluj · 17/03/2022 19:27

Does any of it go in a dishwasher?

QuebecBagnet · 17/03/2022 19:30

I’ve got a Corsair one and love it. All,the bits which need cleaning go in the dishwasher.

Alwayscheerful · 17/03/2022 19:36

following,
Which is the best one please?
I am turning my oven off for the summer.

sophienelisse · 17/03/2022 19:46

The ninja bits that need washing can go in a dishwasher

Was wondering if these would be worth it. Do you use many/all of the functions?

@liveforsummer yes if the chicken isn't too big. If you are on Facebook there is a Cosori UK live life tastefully group. Lots of information and helpful posts.

LunaLoveFood · 17/03/2022 21:07

I've got the tefal actifry 2 in1 xl and ditsy great. It's an upgrade for me from the single actifry.

AdaColeman · 17/03/2022 21:38

@TroysMammy, hello, could you explain how you cooked your gnocchi & sauce in the air fryer please? I’d love to be able to do that type of meal. Was it a pasta bake in a dish?

I’ve recently got an air fryer, but stick with quite simple things up to now.

TroysMammy · 17/03/2022 22:17

Make a basic white sauce and add stilton. Cook broccoli cut into florets in a pan of salted water for 2-3 mins, add gnocchi to same pan and cook according to instructions. In the meantime preheat airfryer to 165c. Drain. Mix in thickened cheese sauce. Place in Pyrex dish. Put in airfryer for about 10 mins until cheese browned

AdaColeman · 17/03/2022 22:35

Thank you TroysMummy I’ll definitely try something along those lines.

I have the 9 in 1 which does pressure cook, air fry, slow cook, steam, bake, roast, sear sauté, grill, yoghurt and dehydrate.

I use the pressure cooker to cook a full chicken it takes 30 mins, then I air fry it for 45 mins.

I do the same with roast potatoes which is 3 minutes pressure cook, then about 45 mins air fry.

I have also cooked the veg to go with this for the same as above time wise. When things are air frying you have to open the lid and give them a bit of a stir round. It's very easy.

The only ball ache for me is that you have to add the pressure cooking lid, then remove it and use the attached lid for air frying - this is really easy you can't mess it up.

You can get the next model up which I think is the 15 in 1 where you don't have to change the lid.l when pressure cooking.

I've also made yoghurt and dehydrated pineapple and mango with it.

Not yet tried the steam, bake or roast options but I will do next time we do a joint of meat.

I normally see what I want to cook then google how to do it. There are loads of videos on you tube.

What I will say though is that it's quite big and heavy so you need space on your worktop to put it and leave it. It's too heavy to get in and out. It will need to be open above the ninja aswell as when you pressure cook, you turn a little valve on the lid to release the steam and I can imangine if you did this under a cupboard for a period of time it would ruin your cupboard.

I really like mine and I use my oven and hob much less.

It's a lot easier making a roast in it as there is only the ninja pan and grill pot to clean rather than loads of pans. The chicken always comes out lovely. Not dry at all.

SunflowerSmith · 18/03/2022 11:16

I've got the Ninja 9 in 1 and can't remember the last time I used my oven, I did buy the ninja max grill too because I sometimes needed to have more than one thing cooking at a time.

One of my favourite things to do in them cook toad in the hole in the grill and pressure cook the spuds in the 9 in 1

ThePontiacBandit · 18/03/2022 11:27

We have an Instant Pot Duo Crisp. It’s great, it’s an air fryer and modern pressure cooker in one. I thought it would be one of those things where the novelty would wear off but I use it most days, like pp I rarely use the oven.

MaddieElla · 18/03/2022 11:31

I'm really confused about which Ninja to buy. There are loads. 😳

I want it to do all of the things and it needs to feed 4 of us. It's a lot of money to buy the wrong one.

@MaddieElla

That's the one I should have gottten as no messing changing lids and it does all of the functions

MaddieElla · 18/03/2022 12:47

That's great, thank you Star

CoffeeBeansGalore · 18/03/2022 12:58

We have a Ninja foodie. Looking to upgrade to the new one with the meat probe. One of the best gadgets we've bought tbf.

liveforsummer · 18/03/2022 16:41

The ninja actually seems to be on offer some places too. I'm just concerned I'd still need my oven for roast potatoes. Maybe you could do both together though. It's only me and 2 dc so a smaller chicken is ok
