I've come to bed and have started itching all over, from the soles of my feet up to the top of my head, it's umbearable
I have a rash, my face is bright red, boiling hot, throbbing and my lips are swollen & tingling

I literally can't keep still, every bit of me is on fire

I called A&E as we have to here and they're calling me back

Any ideas?? I'm terrified

@TomAllenWife

I spoke to my GP who said they can't test or refer me to allergy clinic unless I know what the allergen was Confused Surely if I knew what it was then I wouldn't need testing???

So they've going to take blood and send it off to test for pine nut allergy but after that who knows 🤷🏼‍♀️

Aboslute bollocks.

I would return for a second opinion and say you are not happy to be left with no info. They could test you for all nuts at least, that is what they did for me - the main types of nut.

One person had a full on reaction just to the skin prick test Shock

You can double dose your anti histamine 10 to 15 minutes apart for the first dose for a bad reaction.

TodayWeShark · 17/03/2022 19:27

I think most GPs will do the blood tests first (they are shite by the way….)

But yes you can be referred for unknown allergens so that is shite.

The NHS referral list is LONG- for me and it was after intensive care admissions it was almost 18 months for the first allergy clinic and second one was aprons 14 months I think.

It was hell and I wish I had gone privately but wasn’t able to financially at the time.

When I was first allergic to cows milk I was refused a ref to an allergy clinic as I could just avoid it.

I’m a hcp so that may have swayed her. It was 17 years ago.

Porcupineintherough · 17/03/2022 19:32

@TodayWeShark 18 months! Shock

It was 5 weeks for us and that included Christmas!

TomAllenWife · 17/03/2022 20:19

Oh my word!!! That's a long wait Shock

I might phone back tomorrow and ask for a referral to allergy clinic

I am really scared to use my skincare that I used that night, I can't even have my peanut choc biscuit in case it was that

I wish they would just give me an epipen just to relieve the anxiety more than anything although I suppose that's not the point

Did the hospital give you any medication?
I was told to take antihistamines for 3 days and given a course of steroids as they told me it could recur in the next 3 days .

longtompot · 17/03/2022 20:47

My dd didn't have a long wait for her allergy skin prick tests, maybe a few months.
The gp she spoke to after the burger she had contained cheese when she asked them to leave it out and said her symptoms were not that of an allergic reaction. Her lips were tingling, her mouth too, her throat felt sore and tight and she was getting breathless Hmm He did refer her despite saying all this though. The nurse doing the test wouldn't do the dairy test as she said she would have to call an ambulance for her as it's so severe! My dd felt unwell for several days after her allergic reaction and felt very tired so do expect this for a while.

TomAllenWife · 17/03/2022 20:49

@wfrances yes I'm still taking antihistamine as they said as they food passes through the gut, reactions can re occur
