Ill on wedding day

It is our 20-somethingth wedding anniversary and our plans to go out for dinner have been scuppered by a horrible flu-type virus (although thankfully not Covid).

The way I've felt today, there is absolutely no way on earth I could have dragged myself to do the school run, let alone been dressed to the nines and in the spotlight at a wedding all day.

Which got me thinking... has anyone ever ended up being really unwell on their wedding day? I don't mean serious, life-changing illness, just crap cold / flu / tummy bug things???

I had cellulitis on my leg after scratching it on bushes when out for a run. I was luckily feeling ok but was really worried 48hs before they would admit me. My bridesmaids were on antibiotic duty.

I had a migraine at my Wedding reception.I had to go and lie down in an adjacent room to where the reception was being held until the visual disturbances had passed .I look rather pale in the photos thereafter.

I work at a lot of weddings, usually night time entertainment, and a fair amount of them over the years either the bride or groom has been in bed Ill/drunk/having had a fall out by about 7pm!

Not a wedding, but a bit party for a family anniversary and birthday. My OH got food poisoning from a prawn sandwich. His mum took him back to the hotel before any food was served. I had a great night!

Yep. My first mistake, erm, wedding I woke up sick as a dog with a terrible head/chest cold but I think pure adrenaline carried me through the day.

Got to our hotel that evening and I basically just collapsed. We were supposed to stay three nights (he was Forces, he had 5 days leave to get married) but the next morning I was so ill he pretty much carried me crying through the lobby. Quite an exit from the couple known to be in the 'Honeymoon Suite'. I often wondered what the desk staff thought. Grin

I wish the adrenaline hadn't kicked in and I'd been too ill to go through with the wedding. That marriage was the biggest mistake of my life.

I also worked a lot of weddings. The staff used to line a red carpet from the car park to the door when the B&G arrived. One bride suffered terrible travel sickness from the church to the hotel and on arrival vomited all down the skirt of her poofy out dress. It was in Scotland so they improvised with a tartan sash and a lot of safety pins.

I had flu on the day of my first wedding. Loaded up on paracetamol and over compensated my bright red face by troweling on the slap... ended up looking orange in all the pics! Nice!

Shudda known it wouldn't last! 🤐

Just remembered my cousins wedding. Everyone commented on how nervous the groom seemed. Turned out he has a D&V bug which he was managing through drugs. He infected dozens of guests (including me) and triggered a HSE investigation into the hotel as it was initially logged as mass food poisoning.

So if you are sick on your wedding day, don't kiss and hug your guests in the meet and greet line up!

I woke up on the morning of my wedding to my step son complaining of an "itchy butt".

I told him he just hadn't wiped properly and went to assist. That's when I saw the worms.

So I checked us all and... yep, the entire house had worms. "Butt worms" as the kids christened them.

Emergency trip to Boots.... And then M&S because I'd made my own wedding cake the day before.

Step son was upset about taking the medicine because he didn't want to kill his pet butt worms. 1.5 hour tantrum about butt worms. Bribed him with Pokémon cards.

I literally thought about "butt worms" the entire way through our service. I tried to focus on how much I love my husband... but it was just butt worms, butt worms, butt worms.

✌️

A friend of my DD is getting married on 7April, she currently has quinsy. I don't know her very well but am keeping everything crossed for her that she's ok by then. Like many others they've been trying to get married for a couple of years....

I came down with a bad UTI the week before mine; first lot of antibiotics didn't work 100% so was on ridiculously strong second lot of antibiotics by the day, and so couldn't drink anything alcoholic. I had history of a UTI turning to sepsis and being admitted to hospital, so I couldn't take any chances.

(Still married, never had another UTI!)

@Diversion

Not ill as such but I spent the two months before my wedding with a mouth full of cold sores, one would go and then another would appear (pre zovirax). I am guessing due to stress, thankfully all healed before my wedding day. I hate to think what my photographs would have looked like otherwise.
@Diversion my worst nightmare! I get them all the time, especially before special occasions and loads after my son was born :(
