My tumble dryers kaput…

Any recommendations for a new one? It was a Hoover one and only lasted 15 months so ideally not that brand. Confused

Family of two adults a toddler and a baby do a lot of washing to do!

It’s nearly the summer, I would try and do without one and dry everything outside (possibly not helpful, I do understand wanting a tumble dryer. I have same size family and we can’t afford / have nowhere to put a tumble dryer so we just make do. It is possible and will save a lot on electric)

Figrollface · 13/03/2022 12:58

I would contact the maker. It may only have a one year warranty but there's also an onus on manufactures that goods will last a reasonable length.
It can most likely be repaired.

AuntFlorence · 13/03/2022 13:00

I would ring the manufacturer and if that doesn't get you anywhere then get a tumble dryer repair person out. Do you have home contents insurance?

toomanydogsandcats · 13/03/2022 13:06

Random 8nyernet person tells a person asking for advice on models of drier to get not to get one. Virtue signal extraordinaire Grin

When mine croaked I discovered that under the lint tray theres a sensor, The gap its in had filled up with grit and stuff over the years and was covering the sensor. I cobbled together a flat tube and stuck it to the hose part on my vacuum, ( I used the cardboard tube out a paper towel roll) and sucked all the grit out and re exposed the sensor. It fixed it. Maybe its something simple like that.

If not mines a bosch and its great. Had it for years, that was the only issue Ive ever had with it

LizzieMacQueen · 13/03/2022 13:22

Miele. We have had a honeycomb ? one for 7 years without any problem. But please try that suggestion upthread re the sensors.

Yes! There is a lot of info online about this. You may still be covered.
Magik01 · 13/03/2022 13:26

Unfortunatly DH decided to take it the tip this morning 🤦🏼‍♀️ Him and his dad came to the conclusion that it wasn’t fixable (his dad deals with that stuff). Apparently I overloaded it one too many times and the drum looked like a can opener had been on it. Grin

Have you had your dryer checked to see why it's dead? Seems like a pretty short lifespan (though my Hoover washer developed a fault pretty much the week the warranty ran out and we have to regularly take the top off and jiggle the wires back in to get a couple of months working out of it. Stupid Hoover brand Angry)

We had a Beko dryer for about 10 years. We then replaced it with an exact one but brand new. I guess it was good as they still made it. Two years on and it's still working beautifully. Not bad to say it was around the £150 mark.

ButtockUp · 13/03/2022 13:42

Another Beko fan here.
We bought ours to go in the garage as Beko appliances work well in very cold temperatures.
It's been excellent value for money.

Roselilly36 · 13/03/2022 13:47

I would recommend Bosch, I only buy there products now, I have found them to be good for quality & performance.

RJnomore1 · 13/03/2022 13:48

No advice as mines is hoover but I wanted to say you will have made a lot of posters very happy by spelling dryer correctly 😂

H1978 · 13/03/2022 13:49

Ours is hoover too. We’ve had it 9 years but we renew the currys know how service every year because it has needed servicing every year since we got it. Also the design is rubbish with the water collector on the door. Falls off everyone you open the door with the weight of the water in the container. This also needs replacing several times in the year. I’d avoid another hoover one.

DillDanding · 13/03/2022 13:49

Ours is a Bosch - I would recommend.

BattledoreAndShuttlecock · 13/03/2022 13:52

Bosch should last you a bit longer. My Siemens (same family as Bosch) is still running perfectly after 6 years or so.

Ariela · 13/03/2022 13:54

In the meantime, clothes on an airer, slightly ajar window beyond, point a fan (on cold) at the clothing, dries it very quickly.

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 13/03/2022 13:56

Our Beko condensor one is fab. 7 years and going strong.

Magik01 · 13/03/2022 15:37

@ButtockUp ahh that’s interesting as our washer and dryer live in the garage as well! Is there a reason why they work better in the cold?

It seems the winners are either beko or Bosch then!

Beko had mine 9 years still going.

MotherOfCrocodiles · 13/03/2022 16:17

Bosch heat pump dryer.

Theunamedcat · 13/03/2022 16:19

Beko but for efficiency get a heat pump dryer they are supposed to be cheaper to run long term

AndSoFinally · 13/03/2022 16:34

Yes, definitely get a heat pump one! Mine is costing less than half what my old condenser cost to run

Anothermnuser · 13/03/2022 16:41

We had a Bosch Logixx. Loved it. Swore I would never have anything but Bosch. It gave up the ghost before Christmas … I priced Bosch. Goodness, they had got expensive. Was recommended a Beko on here. It’s bloody fantastic. Dries loads far faster than the Bosch ever did. The odd time I might have to knock it on for another 10-30 mins but not that often. A load of towels takes maybe half the time the Bosch took. Brilliant machine!

BertieBotts · 13/03/2022 16:42

Beko for sure! I would also say heat pump, because I love mine, except that I've heard they are not suitable for unheated rooms like garages, so you might not get the benefit of it out there, in which case a normal condenser/vented one would make more sense. Maybe look into that before you purchase.

Anothermnuser · 13/03/2022 16:44

Oh mine is a condenser dryer. Read reviews before you buy a heat pump … don’t they take forever and a day to dry?
