Any recommendations for a new one? It was a Hoover one and only lasted 15 months so ideally not that brand. Confused

Family of two adults a toddler and a baby do a lot of washing to do!

Our Beko is fab. Was a bit worried with it being so cheap but it's a real workhorse. Would def buy another when this one eventually goes.

BertieBotts · 13/03/2022 16:49

Mine doesn't take long at all. About 1h15m for a full load to cupboard dry.

BertieBotts · 13/03/2022 16:50

I was surprised because I was expecting 2-3 hours+ (and wouldn't have minded this at all).

NannyGythaOgg · 13/03/2022 16:58

Another Beko heat pump here

Yes - heat pumps are a bit slower but they are still cheaper as they recirculate the heat rather than wasting it.

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 13/03/2022 16:59

basic vented Hotpoint here.
2nd one we've had - the first lasted 15yrs before it got taken away because it was a fire risk Hmm it's replacement lasted 6 months stupid sensor dry bleepy fucker so I went back to basics and bought another.

NoEffingWay · 13/03/2022 18:41

I would 1000% NOT recommend a Samsung. We have one, it is a pile of shite but Samsung won't look at it because I don't have the VAT invoice, just the order confirmation.

PickAChew · 13/03/2022 18:47

Our bills went down when we replaced our hear pump with a condenser! The heat pump got less and less efficient as it clogged up and we had no way of cleaning it out. The heat exchanger of our condenser dryer washes in the shower and is so far no slower than when we bought it, almost 2 years ago.

It's a John Lewis one. I agree that if yiur budget is lower, go for beko.

Magik01 · 13/03/2022 19:09

Yes for everyone recommending a heat pump, I’ve also read that heat pumps aren’t suitable for outhouses/garages which is where it will be stored! Shame as they are energy efficient. But beko seem to be the one to go for! Thank you
@ButtockUp ahh that’s interesting as our washer and dryer live in the garage as well! Is there a reason why they work better in the cold?

It seems the winners are either beko or Bosch then!
According to 'Which' Beko is the only brand guaranteed to perform in very cold temperatures. Most appliances can malfunction at very low temperatures, apparently particularly freezers ( bizarrely!)
Hence a Beko tumble dryer and freezer in the garage.
Our washing machine and dishwasher are Bosch and have been for many years.

Hercisback · 13/03/2022 22:06

How much washing are you doing to regularly overload a tumble dryer?

It's summer soon. I dried two loads outside today and yesterday. That's me done for the week.

The energy waste is scary.

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 13/03/2022 22:08

We had a beko which lasted over 4 years, the button broke and absolutely no way to fix it .... got a new one, a brand called zenith... had it 2 weeks, seems okay.

Magik01 · 13/03/2022 22:18

@Hercisback in the summer I do dry everything on the line, but I have a baby and a toddler so have a lot of washing unfortunately!

Don’t do it daily, but when I do have a washing day I do 3/4 loads and all need drying.

OP posts:
Hercisback · 13/03/2022 22:22

Surely then you'd be better spreading it out and drying it in smaller groups?

I have 2 under 5 so appreciate the amount of washing. I do about 4 loads a week.

yummyscummymummy01 · 13/03/2022 22:52

Miele heat pump. Best thing I've ever bought. I have three small kids and lots of laundry!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 13/03/2022 22:57

Just replaced my 7 year old beko with the same model. It’s been great.

Discwriter · 13/03/2022 23:02

We have a Beko condenser dryer and it's fab.

Magik01 · 13/03/2022 23:11

Yeah it probably would be better to spread it out and not overdo the dryer, but I tend to do most the washing in one day or over two days when one child is at nursery. I like to get it all out the way in one go else it does my head in. 😅

BertieBotts · 14/03/2022 12:26

Unless you have a massive capacity washing machine compared to the size of your tumble dryer I don't see how you could really overload it though? I have a 6kg washer and 7kg dryer and couldn't physically fit more than 6kg in the washing machine in the first place. So I'm never going to manage to overload the dryer.

Doing more loads in one day as opposed to fewer loads every day shouldn't make a difference.

BlackeyedSusan · 14/03/2022 13:16

Line dry. Airer in winter. If your house is damp, a heated airer. Save money.

BlackeyedSusan · 14/03/2022 13:21

I have disabled teens, two lots of uniform daily and pe kits and clothes they get dirty quicker and manage with a couple of airers, no radiators and no access to outdoor drying.

It does mean there is always an airer full of washing but it is generally ok. You have to be organised though. Done this since they were babies. Our flat is dry though. And I make use of the sunny windows.

LittleEsme · 14/03/2022 17:19

@yummyscummymummy01

Miele heat pump. Best thing I've ever bought. I have three small kids and lots of laundry!
Why's that? Hope you don't mind me asking!
PickAChew · 14/03/2022 17:21

Good for you @BlackeyedSusan

I have disabled teens and if I hung or line dried everything, my house would be full of damp, smelly washing with no room to move. When our last dryer failed, it was hell and that was in spring.

OP wants a new dryer. OP does not want a medal for wet laundry al over the house.

BlackeyedSusan · 14/03/2022 19:01

Just pointing out its possible with kids that make a lot of washing, but only if you have a reasonably dry home.(compared to say a single supermodel who only wears bikinis in a hot climate say) Given climate change and rising prices of electric and goods, it is worth considering not having a dryer if you have the right conditions. Some holiday houses I've stayed in were so damp washing didn't dry without a heated airer.
