Could be fabulous, do you think we will see it on Grand designs in the future ?

Energy efficiency band G. I wonder if a roof would help.

GregBrawlsInDogJail · 11/03/2022 19:29

The buyer for that would need really deep pockets and a lot of patience. A developer would probably just bulldoze it if it weren't listed; I don't imagine the pool of eligible buyers is big.

GregBrawlsInDogJail · 11/03/2022 19:30

@Clymene

The estate agent's description is hilarious. It doesn't mention anywhere that it's completely derelict Grin
Also the first usage of "undulating" I've seen in a property description.

There are cows! I do hope they don’t get edited out by the EA like the poor tortoise did the other day. I am trying to work out what a “former detached cottage “means. Formerly detached or formerly a cottage?

CheeseMaiden · 11/03/2022 19:32

‘retaining many original features’
Shame that doesn’t include the roof! Looks like it could be a beautiful place

Riverlee · 11/03/2022 19:32

I love the nursery wallpaper in the article.

It seems a lot of money for a ruin, that’s everything doing to it. Suppose Location, Location, Location comes into play.

megletthesecond · 11/03/2022 19:35

It gives me nice ghost vibes.
Hope the cow comes with it.

viques · 11/03/2022 19:36

“The first floor gallery is lit with natural light.” See, who needs one of those fancy roof lights so beloved of Grand Designs, a collapsed roof will do exactly the same job.

CottonSock · 11/03/2022 19:41

Great find. I imagine a developer will try and build a few properties in the grounds to justify saving the listed building. They may not be successful

LadyAnglerfish · 11/03/2022 19:41

I’ve bought a lottery ticket but honestly, I don’t think tomorrow’s jackpot would be enough…

@SoupDragon there is a photo on Historic England of the outside before it fell down.

Oh, I love it even more now!
Wrongkindofovercoat · 11/03/2022 19:47

To be fair the roof that is intact looks to be in fairly good nick, so at least you will be dry whilst you work out which kidney to sell to pay for a new one on the other bit ?

If anyone on here does buy it, can I have first dibs on the Landrover in the barn ?

Nailest · 11/03/2022 19:47

I wonder how what the back story is and how it got to be in the state it is.

Clymene · 11/03/2022 19:48

I'm guessing it's just the pretty ugly old bit that's listed though reading that article so maybe you could just rip the new bit down?

A photo from historic England ...

On a positive note you wouldn’t need to buy any new furniture, there’s plenty lying around to upcycle. And an aga,

SoupDragon · 11/03/2022 19:50

@Nailest

I wonder how what the back story is and how it got to be in the state it is.
It's in the link posted earlier.
flounfer · 11/03/2022 19:50

400k to live with a serial killer or ghost, no thanks

TraceyLacey · 11/03/2022 19:52

So sad that it was allowed to become a ruin. And while it was still occupied! I love the nursery wallpaper.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 11/03/2022 19:54

@Nailest if you read the Cornwall live article, the sellers Uncle bought it back in 1967, mainly for the land, but he died in 2009 and his wife continued living there alone until 2020 when she died.

It’s a money pit, it’s listed everything has to be restored to original, professional builders with deep pockets only.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 11/03/2022 19:57

Good to see that it's 'dating back to the original Doomsday book'

Because the subsequent Doomsday books painstakingky scrawled by Katie Price, Alan Partridge and Barbara Cartland aren't worth the vellum they are crayon-ed on.

BlanketsBanned · 11/03/2022 19:58

it should be listed on television Country House Rescue, they can arrange grants and local conservation tradespeople to restore it up for no cost. It will be wonderful when its finished . I bet it goes for much more than the asking price.

Spaghag · 11/03/2022 20:03

It looks like something straight out of a Daphne Du Maurier novel.

Essentially though it's £400k for land & rubble.

Flapjacker48 · 11/03/2022 20:05

@Crazykatie No, that isn't exactly how listed buildings into this state work, plans etc would need to be approved by the appropriate authorities but there would be plenty of scope for restoration with massive modernisation and changes.

CrustyCrackers · 11/03/2022 20:05

Wow, it looks amazing, If I had the money I'd love to bring it back to life
Such a shame its got to that state
