Imaginary Lottery Win

Smokeahontas · 10/03/2022 22:21

What would be a ‘nice’ amount for you to win? Maybe not enough to retire on or buy a 27 bedroom house, but just to set you up nicely. I could go for about £250k. Pay off the mortgage, do some work to the house, change my car, possibly drop a day in work.

£250k?! Not a chance! I just asked DP how much he'd like to win to be comfortable for life. He said 100 million. After a short discussion I found out why. I'd like a big house with its own indoor pool, a live-in nanny to help look after the children, and a herd of house bunnies running everywhere. Straight away he said "in that case, I'll build a house next to yours where I'll live with the kids and the nanny, and you can have your houseful of bunnies running everywhere.". I just just contemplating this for a moment when he added "In fact you can live with the kids and the nanny and the herd of bunnies and I'll live next door."

What this basically means is that I need a huge win on the lottery.

Smokeahontas · 10/03/2022 22:43

Is he going to live in the Olympic Swimming Centre for £100 mil?!

OP posts:
Squiff70 · 10/03/2022 22:45

No. It's me who wants the pool and the bunnies!

Smokeahontas · 10/03/2022 22:46

Whoops! Misread. That’s gonna be some size of pool though.

15 mil. I’ve just found my dream home for 1.7 million. I’d want to start a business but don’t ask what Grin I have no idea.

250k would still change my life forever but it wouldn’t change my life style if you see what I mean.

iamsoreadyforbednow · 10/03/2022 22:48

I think 1mil.

Effic · 10/03/2022 22:48

Just over 1 million - I worked it out. That would pay off my mortgage and pay me the monthly salary I’m on now with pension contribution until retirement age.
That would be fab

SamBeckettsLastLeap · 10/03/2022 22:50

I like this game, I do it when I can't sleep

I also want a house of bunnies, like the telly tubby place but full of bunnies.

When I'm dreaming I need about 100million, realistically 1million would probably be the best amount, would change my life but not ruin it (ie easy to hide, wouldn't be that flash) but even a couple of K right now would take the weight off.

ouch321 · 10/03/2022 22:52

Anything £500 and up would feel like a worthwhile win to me and would validate me having spent money on weekly tickets if I played the lottery.

Never has as let's say I picked 123456 then when I was at the shop I'd think but what if 234567 came up and would have to buy both sets of numbers and so on. And it is no longer £1 per ticket.

MrsPear · 10/03/2022 22:56

1 million and we could afford a house in the road our children go to school - we live in zone 6 London / Kent btw

250k wouldn’t be enough for a deposit.

Wond3rment · 10/03/2022 22:58

I love a lottery discussion.

So, I think 4 million would be ideal but 1 million would be sufficiently life changing in terms of mortgage, bills and retirement fund while continuing to work.

Oh and some lovely holidays planned too … can.not.wait 😁

Doodledoop · 10/03/2022 22:59

Ooh we play this game a lot.. we'd need a million to make substantial difference to our lives. It would buy us 4 bed detach house (bloody SE property prices). Saving mortgage would be two hols a year. (or maybe one now - after cost of living increases) And then either turn house we have now into rental for income or sell and have a big old pot of cash.

mumda · 10/03/2022 22:59

250k would mean our families could stop worrying about the gas bill for the next few years.

There's a real shortage of beautiful expensive houses that have high EPC certificate ratings.

duckme · 10/03/2022 23:00

I did this on the way home from holiday last year. I'd decided how much I'd need to win, about 10 million, how much would go to each kid and family/friends, what I'd do with our current house, where I'd buy/build our next house and the holiday home we'd buy.
My current pension plan is the GMB competition with Andi Peters.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 10/03/2022 23:01

500k would pay of the mortgage and cover private school fees and some nice holidays.

We’re on the same wavelength! It’d just be a nice amount for me.

About £10m. I would give £1m each to a few family members. Buy a property for me and DH where we live now and a home for DD. No debts, money to live on very nicely

HollowTalk · 10/03/2022 23:14

@Squiff70 At least he wasn't saying that he would live with the nanny and you could live next door with the children!

Rochelaise18 · 10/03/2022 23:15

10 million. It's enough that I can get repairs done to my house that need doing, move somewhere more suitable and live comfortably off the interest of what's left.

Smokeahontas · 10/03/2022 23:17

I think I’ve short changed myself now…

I'd be happy with 500k...I'd give each of my kids 100k each and i'd live happily off the 200k that was left over..I'd continue to work or i'd never get out of bed in the morning.

ufucoffee · 11/03/2022 07:04

A nice amount would be a million. Pay off the mortgage. Pay off the mortgages of my children. And have some money left for home improvements and a couple of holidays

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 11/03/2022 07:05

I'd like £2m. Where I live, a 3bed semi I'd about £800k, which would be perfect. Some money to cover internal decoration and the garden, a nice holiday or 2. Be able to cover dd's fees for uni and help her with living costs. And then the rest to save to run the house and have a nice standard of living.

Your maths is a little bit off there!
Squiff70 · 11/03/2022 07:07

Aaaand for some strange reason I assumed you had two children. I have no idea why! Sorry Blush
