Would you complain to primark about this?

I brought some building blocks for my toddler from Primark (obviously) but today she was walking through the dining room and stood on one, she wasn’t even running so it’s not like she’s stamped on it either Sad

She has a considerable gash in the bottom of her foot, it was peeing blood everywhere (will try and get photos of the gash later but she’s so hysterical at the moment she wont let me near it now we’ve put a plaster on and a sock.

Is it worth me complaining? I mean it obviously their not meant to be stood on but she’s a toddler and had them out playing so it’s not all that avoidable but I also don’t want to look like a moaner!

I’ve added photos I took of only some of the aftermath as while I was holding DD’s foot to help the bleeding my step-dad was cleaning it up and I only thought to take some pictures just in case I do complain!

So.. would you? Sad

Ps. Excuse the half eaten doughnut on the floor.. she was eating it when she stood on the block.

Were they sold as suitable for toddlers? The pieces look very small if that’s an Annabel-sized doll.

If they were, I would complain.

Shesmyperson · 10/03/2022 11:08

What cut her? Sharp edges or did it break?

I think its worth an email to them. Not a complaint as such but drawing their attention to it.

I'm not sure what you'd be complaining about? The bricks are not faulty or unfit for purpose it was just an unfortunate accident.

ThanksPrimarkKidsCrying · 10/03/2022 11:08

18m+ is what is says on the box. My daughter is over 2.

That looks nasty. Hope she's ok. Don't be afraid to take her to Minor Injuries/doctors if you are worried about the bleeding.

Complain... I'm not sure. Lits of things can break if stood on. What age are they for?

SparkleSpangle · 10/03/2022 11:09

I would only complain if the reason she got a cut is because one of the blocks was damaged or defective in some way.

You can't really complain that she got a cut because you left perfectly safe building blocks all over the floor.

ParkheadParadise · 10/03/2022 11:09

No

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 10/03/2022 11:10

Just out of interest what would your complaint be?

Your DD stood on a block and it broke?

And if you do complain what resolution are you hoping for?

This seems like an accident and one to chalk up to experience.

ThanksPrimarkKidsCrying · 10/03/2022 11:12

@Beees that’s what I was in two minds about, obviously it’s not ideal and I think because she’s my DD and she was really hurt my mum-instincts are to obviously be upset about it. But you are right, it’s a accident and their not faulty (although I could now argue they are way to sharp to be played with as we certainly won’t be getting them out again unless sat down to a table rather than on the floor) I felt the edges of them and the triangles in particular are actually fairly sharp.

ThanksPrimarkKidsCrying · 10/03/2022 11:13

The block hasn’t broken

OP this could so easily be picked up by one of the papers that gets stories from mumsnet, you’ve named the store and posted photos. So it might be brought to primarks attention whether you want it to or not.

ApolloandDaphne · 10/03/2022 11:16

I think the age thing relates to the size and possibility of being a choking hazard rather than the angularity of the blocks.

Beees · 10/03/2022 11:17

that’s what I was in two minds about, obviously it’s not ideal and I think because she’s my DD and she was really hurt my mum-instincts are to obviously be upset about it.

Of course its understandable you're sad because she is hurt but reasonably this could have happened with lots of her toys. She could have stood on a book for example and it might have also cut her foot.

I'm sure she will be fine but i'd maybe use it as a small lesson in making sure she tidies her toys up and doesn't move around when eating food and not watching where she is going.

nicknamehelp · 10/03/2022 11:19

Sorry but accidents happen unless block is obviously faulty in some way put it down to accidents happen and perhaps encourage her to wear slippers inside.

MrsVeryTired · 10/03/2022 11:21

I'd be complaining, building blocks sold as children's toys should not be sharp enough to cut!

ThanksPrimarkKidsCrying · 10/03/2022 11:26

@mumsiedarlingrevolta I think less so complaint but just to make them aware that this has happened and they may want to looks into manufacturing them so they’re less sharp on the edges/filed more blunt. Just because she was only walking across the floor I was really surprised to see blood when I picked her up off the floor, it wasn’t until I actually felt them I thought they’re quite sharp and probably too sharp for children 18m+ to play with without getting hurt if they fall or stand on them like DD did.

Concestor · 10/03/2022 11:30

I wouldn't complain as such but I would let them know that they might wish to look into the sharp edges in case it was a faulty batch or they need to go back and look at the design. Toys should not cut!

theveryhungrycatapillar · 10/03/2022 11:33

I've just looked at the blocks we have for DS and the edges of the shapes are slightly rounded so they are not sharp, those ones look to be quite pointy. Maybe send an email. Hope your little one is ok. Ps- do you even have a toddler if there isn't some half eaten food on the floor haha! Grin

whoruntheworldgirls · 10/03/2022 11:36

No advice but i hope she's ok, poor baby.

user1493494961 · 10/03/2022 11:39

Never stand on a piece of Lego with bare feet.

TheOccupier · 10/03/2022 11:47

I'm sorry your DD is hurt but surely the whole point of blocks/construction toys is that they are hard and have straight edges and proper 90-degree corners? Otherwise they are not blocks Confused so I can't see what grounds you have for complaint. These things happen. Put slippers on her indoors maybe?

Donson · 10/03/2022 11:55

@SoManyTshirts

Sorry, what other age group would you sell building blocks for??!
LookItsMeAgain · 10/03/2022 12:00

What I would do is register a concern that the blocks have such sharp edges to them that they caused a significant cut in the sole of your DD when she accidentally stood on one of them.

Is it this set @ThanksPrimarkKidsCrying - www.primark.com/en/all-products/homeware/seasonal-gift/kids-toys-games/baby-wooden-play-blocks-50-pieces/p/210004940?home=true

They have already recalled the xylophone in that product range as some part comes detached and could be a choking hazard:

ThanksPrimarkKidsCrying · 10/03/2022 12:10

@LookItsMeAgain yes that is the set we have.
Ah interesting about the xylophone, perhaps I should just log that it caused an injury as they may want to do the same just to cover themselves anyway then. Thanks!
