Period pouring out after being 9 days late

Little52 · 07/03/2022 19:55

My period was 9 days late and it is now extremely watery and heavy with very large clumps, I've leaked through 2 pairs of pants and pads within 2 hours. this isn't normal for me and I'm having a lot of pains in my abdomen, back and vagina, it feels like its going to fall out. Has anyone experienced this? Am I having a miscarriage? Should I go to the hospital? Really stressing about it...

Omg OP that sounds stressful. I am sure you'll be ok but if this isn't normal you must get checked ASAP! You are not wasting time if it isn't normal and nobody will make you feel that way.
Did you think your were pregnant?

TheMullerLightOwl · 07/03/2022 19:58

At the very least, give 111 a call.

Little52 · 07/03/2022 20:00

I had breast tenderness, sickness and was lightheaded a lot, I did think so but got negative results. My period is never usually late and isn't this heavy or watery.... quite concerned about clot sizes. My doctors aren't great and takes ages to get an appointment with them

Definitely get yourself checked out, I would ring 111 at the very least.

ComDummings · 07/03/2022 20:01

Definitely call 111; that is a lot of blood loss and you need medical attention

SunshineCake1 · 07/03/2022 20:02

You definitely need to ring 111. You'll be going to hospital I expect so pack a bag too.

Teenytinyvoice · 07/03/2022 20:02

I was told soaking more than one pad an hour was an A&E visit. In my case I knew it was a miscarriage, but it seems like good advice for any heavy bleeding

That was the advice I got too. With the amount you're losing and with the clots, you need get checked.
Sexnotgender · 07/03/2022 20:12

Do you have any other symptoms? How are you feeling otherwise?

SirChenjins · 07/03/2022 20:13

111 definitely - you really need to get checked out. I hope you’re ok.

Little52 · 07/03/2022 20:16

I feel fine otherwise just tired. Quite stressed. Don't want to waste time at a&e especially if it is just a heavy period.

@teenytinyvoice when you had a miscarriage did you get positive pregnancy tests? I'm so confused and don't know if it is a miscarriage or just a late period. Also did you go to the hospital?

SirChenjins · 07/03/2022 20:25

You can phone 111 for advice and then if they think it’s anything to worry about they’ll send you to A&E or the out of hours service. Honestly, you’re better getting this checked out.

Duracellbunnywannabe · 07/03/2022 20:28

Serious blood loss is a medical emergency so this is an A and E job. Don’t bother with 111. Can you get yourself to A and E without driving?

SartresSoul · 07/03/2022 20:28

My early miscarriage was like this until I passed the pregnancy (I saw it, it was like a small grey lump) then it slowed down. Unless heavy periods with clots are usual for you, I’d say this may well be a miscarriage- sorry.

BlanketsBanned · 07/03/2022 20:28

Please call either 111 or go to hospital if you feel able

EmpressSuiko · 07/03/2022 20:42

You need to go to A&E you won’t be wasting their time but this doesn’t sound normal and main thing is it isn’t normal for you. It’s better to get checked rather than leaving it

Sussexmidwife · 07/03/2022 20:46

@Little52 Soaking through a pad in less than an hour and continuing to bleed is a reason to go to A&E. At the moment the issue isn’t why it is happening, it is the fact that it is happening.
A&E is the right place.

Amethystbluexo · 07/03/2022 20:51

No advice but wishing you a speedy recovery OP Flowers x

caulkheaded · 07/03/2022 20:58

I have this about once every 18 months. No reason for it and other than my iron being low it’s never been an issue. I have fibroids so tend to associate it with that. It’s frustrating and the first time was worrying.

Little52 · 07/03/2022 21:38

@caulkheaded how did you find out about fibroids etc my doctors aren't great. I could possibly be low on iron as I'm dizzy quite often. Thank you, I'll look into this...

Little52 · 07/03/2022 21:39

The bleeding has calmed and I'm waiting on a call back from the doctors. Thank you for your help and advise. It was pretty scary for a while as its just never happened before, just glad it's calming.

Emelene · 07/03/2022 22:02

I’m glad it’s calmed down and that you called OP. All the best x

hopeful777 · 07/03/2022 22:16

Hi OP, hope you’re feeling better. If you don’t have contraindications, something like ibuprofen can really help with heavy period flow and pain. Relax at home with a hot water bottle and wait and see if it slows down. If at all you feel unwell with it (dizzy/short of breath/severe pain, then I’d go to ED)

I’ve had similar in the past- started suddenly whilst I was driving and I flooded the car seat 😔 then when I stopped in sainsbury’s had to buy new clothes and pads/tampons and got through them in less than an hour. Periods can be horrific and you should check with your GP and get bloods and iron studies done as a minimum as well as considering a trans-vaginal ultrasound scan looking for causes like fibroids or adenomyosis that can be treated.

I do hope you feel better and have a restful evening.

Have you had your Covid booster recently?
I was nearly 2 weeks late and thought my innards were being expelled after having mine.
