How would you wash a shit tonne of duplo?

MrsMingech · 05/03/2022 18:52

I don't have a dishwasher.

It would take me hours to scrub all the bits in the bath.
Could I stick them in a few pillow slips, tie it up and do that? Or would that kill my washing machine?

I did this once several years ago and it worked fine. I think I put a couple of old towels in too though.

toomuchlaundry · 05/03/2022 18:54

Are they really dirty? I would just soak in the bath

Christmas21 · 05/03/2022 18:54

My parents used to wash the duplo in the washing machine in a pillow case, always came out fine and is still in use today by the grandkids

DockOTheBay · 05/03/2022 18:54

How dirty is it?

PukkaP · 05/03/2022 18:54

I'd put them in a bucket and soak in Milton

darkred · 05/03/2022 18:54

I definitely wouldn't put it in the washing machine! Run a hot soapy bath and leave it to soak for an hour or so I reckon.

NuffSaidSam · 05/03/2022 18:56

How dirty is it? I'd normally put in the bath, let it soak for a bit, give it a bit of a swoosh and rinse. I wouldn't scrub every brick.

If it's dirty enough to need every brick scrubbed I think you've got to do that. How did it get so dirty is the question in that case?!

DownWhichOfLate · 05/03/2022 18:56

Do you have children? Get them to clean the Duplo!

NannyR · 05/03/2022 18:56

I'd put it in the bath and stick the kids in too, let them swish it around. Depends how dirty it is though?

Lindy2 · 05/03/2022 18:57

I'd stick it in a bucket of hot soapy water for a while and stir it around a bit. I can't imagine it really is so dirty it needs a washing machine or dishwasher wash.

AlisonDonut · 05/03/2022 18:57

Do you have a dishwasher?

SomePosters · 05/03/2022 18:58

Unless it’s had diarrhoea all over it I wouldn’t.

When that very thing happened I put it in a large net laundry bag designed for bras and washed it without a spin cycle

CatherinedeBourgh · 05/03/2022 18:58

All a dishwasher does is swirl soapy water around things.

Stick them in the bath with hot water and a dishwasher tab, leave them to soak overnight, rinse with the shower attachment and they'll come as clean as they would in a dishwasher.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 05/03/2022 19:04

@AlisonDonut

Do you have a dishwasher?
Did you read the first line of the OP?
MrsMingech · 05/03/2022 19:05

Yeah they are pretty grim.

I used a single duvet cover, clips and the dog towels, washing machine lived and so did the child who inherited the germ/grime free Duplo! Turned the spin off though.

helpmum2003 · 05/03/2022 19:15

Any with stickers shouldn't be washed in machine, soaked in bath though.

jessycake · 05/03/2022 19:16

Soak it in a storage box in soapy water overnight then rinse , then repeat with milton for at least half and hour .

northbacchus · 05/03/2022 19:17

I’d soak in bath, possibly with some vinegar. Then I’d maybe use the shower head if your bath has one! Surprisingly effective when turned up fully.

Shower head also works well for any items of clothing which are hand wash only.

Biscuitburglar · 05/03/2022 19:18

I’ve washed it before in a well knotted pillowcase in the washing machine and it worked beautifully, came out very clean and shiny and no harm done to the machine.

koalalala · 05/03/2022 19:21

Put it in a washing basket & soak in Milton solution & then rinse under shower if required.

Jessicabrassica · 05/03/2022 19:32

I've washed Lego in a sink of warm soapy water. I use it to assess fine motor skills and during covid I've needed to ensure its clean and not carrying bugs. Takes a while to dry though.

MajesticElephant · 05/03/2022 19:34

Do you have a dishwasher? Pop them in mesh laundry bags in the top rack and they will come out lovely!

MajesticElephant · 05/03/2022 19:35

Sorry didn’t read the first line of the post! Washing machine will be fine, use a duvet cover or pillow cases.
