Coca-cola and Russia

110 replies

RuralRita · 04/03/2022 12:14

Will you be boycotting Coke after they announced they will continue trading in Russia?

I feel tremendously sorry for the Russian people, thousands would lose their jobs if coca-cola pulled out, but I will not be buying coke now.

Reading the comments from the kids on this newsround article was the first time I cried since the start of this conflict. What terrible times.

OP are you going to stop buying fuel because, you know we get it, right? So when you buy it you have no idea where it’s from.

Suzi888 · 04/03/2022 17:39

As in we get 30% of fuel from Russia

@5zeds
Ssshhh. Pointing out hypocrisy and how we in the West don’t give a shit when the victims aren’t white is called “whataboutery”. Btw, check out the Matthew Wright comments on “This Morning”. re. attitudes to European victims and Others.

Suzi888 · 04/03/2022 17:43

🙈That was badly typed!
I mean- we get fuel from Russia, so are you intending to boycott that too.

Who is we? The uk get about four percent from Russia.
Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/03/2022 17:44

I don't drink Coke. I much prefer Dr Pepper.

savehannah · 04/03/2022 17:47

@TellMeMoreHellebore

The people of Russia ARE the ones who can help

They are the ones who can rebel and put pressure on their government! And by cutting off trade it will also have effect

The people of Russia may be innocent yes, but they are safe in their homes, unlike the Ukrainian people

I'm not sure this is true, did you not see in the news Russia has passed new laws giving prison sentences of 15, years to anyone "spreading propoganda" ie saying anything against Putin. I suspect there are a huge amount of ordinary Russians who are living in fear and too terrified to speak up against this war.

They can’t really do that by themselves. I lived through a revolution in the Eastern Bloc and the army was on our side, the russians don’t have that... yet.

Please report any posters you feel are being racist. I have.

Loads of children are scared of a 9 year old because he's Russian? What load of racist victim blaming bollocks

What a crock of shit. Children are influenced by their parents, so if they're terrified of any Russian child it's probably because of parents like you parroting nonsense to them. You should be embarrassed. My 8yo isn't scared because I don't act hysterically at home like some others clearly do.
CowboyJo · 04/03/2022 17:59

I am not racist. I am not scared of him or justifying any bullying. The children are scared. They don't understand why Russia is hurting Ukraine. They don't understand the nuances, or what the Russian boy thinks of it all. They instantly see him and start thinking of worst case scenario.

CowboyJo · 04/03/2022 18:00

Of course, I think it's sad that the children are scared of him. I never said I agreed with that I want to make clear.

"The children" are not all scared. Only the ones whose parents force their own anxieties onto them. A lot of adults need to get a grip of themselves.
gogohm · 04/03/2022 18:03

It's not the fault of ordinary Russians and it will be a subsidiary. Once the subsidiary runs out of concentrate they may not be able to get more into Russian anyway, the shipping channels are closing basically. My dp deals with clients in Russia, ordinary businesses and he isn't stopping supplying because it's for medical use and innocent Russian children could be affected, however he's struggling to get the consignment it so might not be an option

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 04/03/2022 18:03

They aren't scared of him, some children are just bullies.

No, they don't. Children don't fear random classmates because of their nationality, unless they are being drip-fed poisonous racist nonsense by adults like you

Honestly I've been on MN since 2003 and your post might actually be the stupidest thing I've ever read.

www.coca-colacompany.com/brands

Coke owns/produces a lot of brands, I take it everyone knows that and is boycotting all of them in their stance?

doublemonkey · 04/03/2022 18:05

@FourTeaFallOut

Yeah, let everyone keep taking the oil and gas and dry up their Coke supplies, so that we have the moral high ground Hmm
Exactly.
DoorWasAJar · 04/03/2022 18:26

@savehannah And this too, they are completely propagandised.

In fact, imo, most of us are propagandised, one way or another, even outside of proper dictatorships. Propaganda really really works, I can say as someone who lived through it and children are the easiest targets.

In our revolution there are rumours that we had outside help (CIA?). Not sure what truth there’s to that but the US army do have a presence there for some reason and perhaps a blacksite Hmm

DoorWasAJar · 04/03/2022 18:27

*CIA blacksite not army

cherryonthecakes · 04/03/2022 18:29

@ClariceQuiff

No, because these terrible events aren't the fault of the ordinary Russian on the street. I wouldn't want thousands of Russians to lose their jobs when they have absolutely no influence on the decision to invade Ukraine.
^^ this

The international community needs to keep on eye out for the Russians who are bravely protesting around Russia. As President Zelensky said in a speech, they are a vital voice.

DoorWasAJar · 04/03/2022 18:31

@CowboyJo Good grief, you sound like an actual child. You need to educate yourself on what living in a dictatorship is actually like.

It’s easy for you to be a keyboard warrior from afar, if you really feel so strongly about it why are you here and not in Ukraine, holding the line?
