Dc 11 and 8 have never wanted to participate in world book day. They love books and read lots but they never want to dress up.

Any one else's dc not dress up. Feel bad like it's me as a parent not dressing them up!

If they don't want to they don't have to. They can tell their friends they don't want to. I don't like fancy dress so never dress up for Halloween etc.

PennyFleck · 03/03/2022 08:41

Yes, mine. She asked the teacher yesterday if she could wear PE kit instead.
Irony is, she's an amazing Y6 reader.
Don't worry about it - let them be.

newardrobe321 · 03/03/2022 08:41

They haVe never really like dressing up for Halloween either. I agree it's entirely up to them

My DS’s middle school don’t do dressing up for world book day. They are all reading a book today instead.

The toddler is dressed as a duck to go to nursery. It’s not compulsory but he looks cute. And you can be a duck any day when you’re a toddler if you like.

LowlyTheWorm · 03/03/2022 08:42

Our school thankfully doesn’t buy into the WBD crap of dressing up (let’s face it most kids end up Disney or marvel anyway) but kids bring their favourite book to school and they do book/literature based activities.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 03/03/2022 08:45

Ds2 used to point blank refuse. He did do it one year, but felt like a fool so wouldn't do it after that.

Yioeo · 03/03/2022 08:45

My Y1 son is a brilliant reader. He’s currently reading Y3 books at school. He hates wearing any sort of costume and went to school wearing joggers and shirt and hoody. And took the world Guinness book of records with him Grin

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 03/03/2022 08:47

My Y6 DS would not
He hates dressing up and insists he doesn't care if everyone else does
He's always hated it since reception and I have persuaded him into minimal costumes in past years but this year I gave up the fight and he's gone in his uniform
He does love reading but he hates dressing up.
DD used to love it and spend ages on her costumes

H1978 · 03/03/2022 08:47

Mine because I’ve no children in primary school anymore

Cyclingforcake · 03/03/2022 08:52

Mine went as Tomas from ‘The boy that grew dragons’. No dressing up required. He also considered being Flat Stanley’s brother (normal clothes) or one of the kids in Frank Lampards football books (PE kit!). We’re also not a dressing up family!
My 3 year old went to nursery as a skeleton. But she went as a cowboy yesterday and a witch on Monday so nothing new.

StandardLampski · 03/03/2022 09:19

Mine is going in her normal clothes ( it's a non uniform school anyway) and will be " a writer" or "an illustrator"

OldTinHat · 03/03/2022 09:23

The World Book Day school crocodile just walked past my house on their way to the library for story time. The teachers were dressed up but the children all seemed to be wearing every day clothes!

Waitingfirgodot · 03/03/2022 09:24

My eldest never did. He would 't even go as a character from a book who just wore ordinary clothes. He insisted on wearing his uniform. He's at secondary now and they don't do it

SpottyStripyDuvet · 03/03/2022 09:29

My DS is year 1 and has never been keen on dressing up. School said that children could choose this year so he chose not to but did appear to be the only one in school uniform this morning. Lots of generic princesses and superheroes though with only some obvious characters.

Thecomfortador · 03/03/2022 09:36

Thankfully our school doesn't do dressing up, I for one am grateful for their sensible approach to WBD.

Ringmaster27 · 03/03/2022 09:39

Our school aren’t doing it this year.
Instead they’ve got local community figures going in to read stories in the library - the chairman of the parish council, the local vicar, lady who runs the little library in our village, a local farmer and the manager of the local football team, all reading stories somehow related to their work in the community which I think is quite a nice change from parents breaking the bank to buy costumes!

AnybodyAnywhere · 03/03/2022 09:42

The school where I am a Governor is in an area of high deprivation so we are having a ‘Bedtime Story’ pyjama day instead.

emmathedilemma · 03/03/2022 09:44

My nephew hates dressing up, he's never liked it. Even messing about with someone else's hat when he was a toddler used to make him grumpy. He very reluctantly went dressed up in reception but I'd be surprised if he's gone in costume today. Meanwhile his brother would wear fancy dress every day if you let him!

Iputthetrampintrampoline · 03/03/2022 09:44

My dd is 10 she isnt dressing up either. She always has but not this year She has gone in her own choice.

GreenPillow · 03/03/2022 10:42

DS, in reception, doesn't like dressing up at all so he has just gone in normal clothes.

balalake · 03/03/2022 10:45

Perhaps OP you should be trying to persuade the school not to do dressing up on World Book Day. Asking a child to bring a book in, and perhaps talk about why they like it or even about one of the characters, even for 60 seconds, would be more valuable in my opinion.

User48751490 · 03/03/2022 10:46

The 4yo and 6yo have dressed up today, but 11yo said no to dressing up which is fine.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 03/03/2022 10:47

Our school aren't dressing up. Poetry week instead - love it!

piglet81 · 03/03/2022 10:48

My 6yo has gone as a muggle (in normal clothes) because he didn’t want to dress up. It’s fine.

LER83 · 03/03/2022 10:55

My eldest hated any sort of dress up but we could usually find a character with normal clothes that he would go as. Youngest is in yr 1, point blank refused this morning, as I knew he would! In fact he refused to go to school when I said everyone would be dressed up! All I'd done was get a small Mr Tickle transfer and stick it on a plain white t shirt! But he has asd and it took months to get him to wear his pe kit for school or even his own clothes on non uniform day! 9 yr old dd trotted off happily dressed up like usual!
