Dc 11 and 8 have never wanted to participate in world book day. They love books and read lots but they never want to dress up.

Any one else's dc not dress up. Feel bad like it's me as a parent not dressing them up!

We went for minimum effort this year.
DD1 wore her school uniform and a witches hat as the worst witch
DS1 wore his own clothes and took a plastic bottle filled with brown paint and a medicine spoon - he is George from Geroge's marvellous medicine.
DD2 and DS2 are at infant school and they were doing masks only which they made at school yesterday.

I remember it being a huge novelty with DC1, then after three or so years adding DC2 to the mix a massive PITA every year.
The competitive dressing up was real, and there were parents who went out and bought a complete outfit every year.
My two were just not dressing up fans. We got away with a football kit and a football annual a couple of years but the school then stopped that.
I have seen a few IG pictures today and there seems to be a lot of Disney going on. Confused

Our school don't do dressing up days as part of poverty proofing. My son said he would like to dress up but I said its not worth even one child feeling inadequate. They will do fun activities in school instead and the focus will be on books instead.

My son refused. He's wearing normal clothes but taken a Willy Wonka golden ticket. Said he's Charlie.

DS said pretty much none of his mates dressed up so I guess Y6 lads are a bit past all that and he knew best. One lad that did dressed as a manga character and apparently that did get major kudos from the lads so it seems if you are a Y6 boy you go big or go home.

DD didn't want to dress up; she said that she was going as herself - she keeps a diary, so there is a book about her! This was definitely a battle I wasn't going to fight...

DS, who is nine, and his friends decided they were too cool and edgy this year. Which was slightly undermine when they clocked sixth class all dressed as manga characters (and one Aslan) and looking great. Grin

My son's school usually has a non-uniform day for WBD, but this year they announced that anyone not dressing up has to go in normal uniform. He hates wearing school uniform but also hates dressing up- so he decided what he wanted to wear then spent quite a bit of time looking through books to find a character he could claim to be. He took the book with him incase he was challenged!

My son’s school is pretty hippy and doesn’t have a uniform, so I think a lot of the appeal of WBD is lost, because half of them are channelling manga characters or strange hats on the average Thursday, anyway. His friends went as Princess Mononoke, Aslan, Miss Trunchbull, and Dumbledore, and I have never laughed so much as at the sight of them playing football together, especially when Aslan fouled Dumbledore. Grin

DS1 used to have epic meltdowns when other people dressed up…at 9 he can now cope but prefers going in own clothes and finding a book to fit.

DS2 is going as Winnie the Witch having raided the childminder’s dressing up box. His school have done ‘book battles’ this week where they each have a couple of minutes to explain to their class (Y1) why the book they’ve brought in is their favourite (no costumes for this exercise!). The videos are adorable.
