Can anyone recommend a good holiday cottage website?

I'm trying to find a cottage for a family break in England or South Wales, and it's proving difficult!

I need somewhere where most of the communal rooms are on the ground floor plus a bedroom, as my mum can't do stairs. (It'd be great if there was a website that had this feature to search on as trawling loads of unsuitable ones is a pain!)

It also needs to have decent outside space or facilities to keep the kids occupied.

My mum and other relatives want somewhere quiet and peaceful but my DC would love to be around loads of kids and activities so balancing that out is proving tricky also!

We've been looking at places that are around £1.5k to £2.5k or so for 7 of us for a week.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

We don't need somewhere with activities as such - but the DC need something to do or they'll bicker. That could be a big garden or woodland onsite to explore, or other cottages with kids to play with not too far away, or a games room, or literally on the beach (I wish!)

Haven & Hoseasons are good sites.

Thanks, Hoeseasons have some nice places, but nothing for the week we need (we're booking quite late with a large group, I know it's tall order!)

My DC would love a holiday park but my mum would hate it.

If she didn't see another person other than us, she'd be happy! Her ideal would be a secluded cottage in the middle of nowhere I think. The kids would be climbing the walls though so we'll need to find a compromise.

Cottage Holidays, sorry

We stayed here recently. Holiday cottages in Somerset. Decor has all been updated to restful greens and blues. V clean, big pool, kids play area but in quiet countryside. Not sure what availability is.

Thanks that looks lovely, it'd be great it it was a family holiday for the 4 of us without the extended family. But it's too close to other properties for this one.

DM isn't very mobile these days and she'll want to hang out at the cottage if we're taking the DC out to do something that she's not mobile enough for (e.g. going to the beach).

She's totally happy pottering around under her own steam, reading, relaxing etc - but she's not really that keen on people!

So, for her to be happy, we need to be somewhere she can have a nice sit out in a garden with a lovely view and not have to deal with any other people. Shared gardens our courtyards with other people won't cut it I'm afraid!

My ideal would be somewhere with a private garden and shared facilities beyond it, that you can pretend don't exist at all if you're DM, and run off to play if you're the DC!
(I know we may not get that in reality!)

Fair dos - the cottages are a sort of terrace!

I should be asleep but I just had a quick search as a friend of a friend has a Welsh hol cottage company.
I couldn't find hers but found this and this house:
www.walescottageholidays.co.uk/mid-wales-the-brecon-beacons/brecon-cottages/390810-ty-pen-y-fan?adults=7&sleeps=%3E7

You can search on the site by ground floor bedroom/bathroom.

Anyhow now I must sleep!

This might not work for you location wise OP, but if it does... it is absolutely AMAZING. Plus there are loads of other cottages nearby, so if it's not big enough for all of the family, you could easily split between two properties?

We've been there quite a few times, and it's perfect for what you want.

Probably would have helped if I'd included the link... Grin www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/15778505?source_impression_id=p3_1646269208_%2ByQ%2FZ0lIcwrMcJte

Not sure how many people are going but we've stayed here before and it's lovely. They have a collection of cottages for various capacity that can be hired together or individually. Got a games room for the kids on site, plus lovely woodland with camp fire, hammocks etc. Close to abergevenny & Brecon Beacons for day trips!

LemonDrizzles · 03/03/2022 03:09

We've also used Sykes before

MinnieMountain · 03/03/2022 06:03

We’ve used Quality Cottages. I see you can filter by ground floor facilities.

Roselilly36 · 03/03/2022 06:19

Hoseasons we usually use, have you tried AirBNB?

TroysMammy · 03/03/2022 06:24

Home from Home, Swansea & Mumbles area.

isthisit83 · 03/03/2022 06:24

Have you tried rural retreats?

We've used this agency. No experience of larger properties though. You can filter for mobility issues

Both those have downstairs bedroom and bathroom and one is on the beach

Chishnfips · 03/03/2022 09:21

My dad has limited mobility uses a wheelchair so my parents have been searching on sites that are specific to people who are disabled. I don't know which site specificly but these might be helpful to narrow down your search.

disabled holidays

simply owners

independant holidays

Might something like this suit you? Coquet Cottages have lots of high quality properties, we've stayed with them since they were a tiny company with a handful of houses. Always been thrilled with the house we've stayed at. You can search by size of property, and there are details of accessibity on each cottage's page.

PennineWayinSlingbacks · 03/03/2022 09:55

Honestly, I'd avoid Sykes like the plague. I've had a couple of horrendous experiences with them.

The Sykes Unhappy Customers Facebook page has over 6000 members....

bellac11 · 03/03/2022 09:58

Ive always used Sykes but since covid their customer service has been non existent and their prices have gone through the roof.

Ive moved to booking.com or airbnb or Salllys cottages for the lake district
