How much did you pay for your DC's school leavers hoodie? Did your DS or DD wear them much after they had left school?

Just ordered. Adult sizes were £19 that with number on the back plus word leavers. School logo and initials on the front.

TheOccupier · 02/03/2022 18:18

I hate leavers' hoodies, I think they're a safety/privacy risk. I do see a lot of kids in them though!

BaggingTheWainwrights · 02/03/2022 18:19

About £25 here. DD 21 still wears her school hoodies.

Dds both wore theirs after leaving secondary school, dd2 still wears hers 3 years later. Dd1 still wears her leavers tracky bottoms & she left 6 years ago.

DancingQueen2018 · 02/03/2022 18:25

£9.50, PTA pay half. They tried a new thing this year of giving them out in December and they’ve all been wearing them loads since then.

Drawerofcrap · 02/03/2022 18:30

Mine is still wearing her Yr 11 leavers one (almost 2 yrs ago since she left) and she wears it regularly, but she 'collects' hoodie and wears them a lot. She'll often buy one to remember somewhere we've been.
She buys them out of her allowance though, which I think makes her think about whether or not she really wants it. I think we did pay £10 towards her school one though, which cost about £25.

TheUsualShitshow · 02/03/2022 18:38

A tenner for primary 7. The PTA paid half for each child I think. It gets worn probably 3/4 times a week.

Really?

We had to give permission for DD's name to be on her secondary leavers hoodie along with the other 250. The names are so tiny you'd have to be right up close to read them. Plus of course as leavers hoodies it means the pupil is no longer there...(except schools which give them out early I suppose)

They aren't personalised though, I guess that could be an issue for primary age, but no more so than personalised footie shirts.

TheOccupier · 02/03/2022 19:10

Yeah, the ones with tons of names bother me less, but I've seen ones with the names printed across very clearly. Even without the name, I feel like it gives someone an "in" if they know what school a child has recently left.

I also can't really see the point of them and don't like any sort of pointless tat with a short shelf life, but I am a bit of a miserable old curmudgeon these days Grin

My DS is year 11. He will be leaving the school to do a levels elsewhere, as his school doesn't have any A level provision. It would be one of the ones with all student names (about 150 names) contained within the "22".
One of my sons got one, the other two didn't bother. The one who did get one had never had it on his back 😆
DoNotTouchTheWater · 02/03/2022 19:20

DS was not impressed with the middle school leavers hoodie and was adamant he does not want one. I was glad not to have to buy one.

IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble · 02/03/2022 19:25

This year the price is £25 with no name, £30 with name.

ChessieFL · 02/03/2022 19:27

DD left primary last year. PTA paid some of the cost and we had to pay something like £12 or £15. They were allowed to wear them a few times towards the end of the summer term and DD has worn hers loads since (and will probably wear it loads more!)

Zingy123 · 02/03/2022 19:55

£25. My DD still wears hers quite a bit three years later.

In what way? The names at the back are tiny, we had 65 name making the number 18 and I had to look very closely to find DD’s. On the front is a small logo, same size as the school jumper and her initials.

No difference to her personalised hoody or T- shirt from the Scout camp.

At 10/11 most children should be independent and smart enough to not be in danger from walking down a street.

RampantIvy · 02/03/2022 20:36

DD's primary school didn't do leaver's hoodies. She never wore her year 11 hoodie because she says the neck was too tight.

Heatherjayne1972 · 02/03/2022 20:51

About £20 I think. One son wore his until he grew out of it. The other boy still wears his .
It’s all too much really. We had Jumpers, yearbooks, bbq, waterfight, parties ,shirt signing and a special assembly with graduation certificate
Way too much

MargaretThursday · 02/03/2022 21:05

About £20 on the ones I had to pay for.
The year 6 ones were part of the residential trip-they got them as part of going (so I assume any who had the trip funded also got the hoody funded).
They wore them until they grew out of them, or they wore out. You see a lot of children wearing them around.

merryhouse · 02/03/2022 21:12

My S1 is in his fourth year of uni and still wears his Y11 hoodie (he would wear the Y13 one, but he put it down in chapel in first year and it never turned up again Sad - someone obviously liked the Gryffindor colours)

S2 I'm not sure - I'm fairly certain he got one in Y11 but can't think what it looked like - but he doesn't often wear more than a t-shirt anyway. His Y13 one is currently with his girlfriend (such a cliche).

OnlyTheBravest · 02/03/2022 21:12

Year 11 dc personalised hoodie (£30) and worn loads. Not sure if I would have brought a primary one as shirt signing was allowed and PTA brought all of Year 6 autograph books.

merryhouse · 02/03/2022 21:15

oh, and they paid for them themselves (out of pocket money). I don't recall the cost but I didn't think it entirely ridiculous.

Datsandcogs · 02/03/2022 21:26

My girls have both appreciated them and worn them.

DD1, fast grower wore it a fair few times until it was outgrown.

DD2 has had 2. End of Year 2, was a gift from the school. I asked for an oversized one and she wore it for 4 years until she got the next leavers’ hoodie! (Much to the envy of her friends who had outgrown theirs!). End of Year 6, cost about £25, she’s worn it loads so far.

I have plans to turn them into cushions once no longer worn.

SE13Mummy · 02/03/2022 21:29

£20 for personalised Y11 leavers hoodie last summer. Only membership hoodie DC1 has ever owned and it's been worn lots on holiday, at home and in sixth form. It was the only element of being a Y11 leaver that happened for them last year so was extra important to DC1 that it existed.

My 18 year old still wears his from his old school.
Ilikecheeseontoast · 23/03/2022 19:16

At our school the Y6 children get their hoodies at the beginning of the academic year and wear them all year. Great idea!
