I was ice skating with my children on Wednesday and had a bad fall. I turned too quickly to get to my DD and went straight down on my arse. I actually heard someone say, “Oooooh,” so it clearly looked as bad as it felt.

It’s still very painful. Sitting hurts, obviously, but now when I’m walking there’s a constant dull pain and lots of other movements hurt, too. Google tells me that, whether it’s a bruise or a fracture, there isn’t much to be done. Is it worth seeing a doctor, or do I just carry on and anticipate it sorting itself out eventually?

Yep. Broke it coming down a kids wavy slide and landed on my back. We were on holiday at the time as well and I had a cramped six hour car journey home that was only made slightly better by the drugs the doctor had given me in Wales.

Six months of agony, painkillers and physio. Neither sitting or standing was comfortable and it left me with such a fear of doing it again I won't skate or walk on ice in case I fall.

I bruised my cocyx at school. I actually had to take a cushion in. The pain was worse than the shame. It took a while - maybe several weeks. Felt like forever.

I slipped on carpeted stairs wearing socks while holding my newborn and damaged mine. It was fucking agony for months. Sympathies.

I think I have. Slipped and fell on some compacted snow abut 10 years ago. Now if I sit for extended periods of time I get numbness either down the back of my right thigh (long car/plane journeys for example), or the whole bum/gential region and the back of my thighs if I'm sat on the floor Hmm It goes away within a couple of minutes of being back on my feet though, and doesn't cause me any other issues in my day to day life.

If it’s just bruised it will still take a long time to feel better. Meanwhile you won’t know. Get an X-ray. I broke my coccyx in a heavy landing in an aircraft. It healed badly (it is pointed like a fish hook, aiming forwards now) and it hurts when I go to the toilet if I have to strain even a little bit, and giving birth naturally was out. (It may have resolved the problem, but I would have been in agony for many months, and it may also have caused permanent nerve damage resulting in both kinds of incontinence.)

Has anyone been to physio for this is there anything that helps?

whatsagoodusername · 01/03/2022 00:08

I dislocated mine badly in childbirth.

Two years of intense chiropractic sessions later (and another baby) and it was healed. 11 years on and I generally don't notice unless I sit badly or in bad chairs.

@SparkleSky I think it depends on what has happened to it for what kind of treatment helps! Mine was bent completely the wrong way, so needed readjusting. I suspect if it's just (!) been a fracture, there's not much to be done.

Yes twice! Ice skating the first time. Could barely walk back to the train station afterwards and someone had to carry me up the steps to the exit as I physically couldn't lift my legs up. Second time i managed to fall backwards and whack my lower onto the edge of a drawer as I landed on it. Did Rpm a few days later and massively aggravated it. First time was definitely more painful though I could only sit down on a donut cushion for a good few weeks afterwards
