and was then bothered by the sagging skin

You needed to leave that as complete as possible so that it dried out and protected the new skin underneath until that had hardened off.

MaizeAmaze · 26/02/2022 20:42

Blister plaster, and some different shoes for a while.

Justmuddlingalong · 26/02/2022 20:42

Thread a sterile needle with thread. Push the needle through from one side of the blister right through to the other side. Leave a tail of about 3 inches of thread hanging out both sides. Put a sock on so you don't catch it. The thread will absorb the liquid.

I had a blister in the exact same place a few days ago and just popped it in the shower then put a plaster on it after. Was fine after

I was a stupid teenager at the time (18/19) Grin

Never had a blister like it since but if I did, I would be much more grown up about it now.

Tony Blair for scale.

DH does very long distance walking and gets blisters like that and always pops them using a sterile needle unless they burst naturally, they all heal fine

Susu49 · 27/02/2022 01:35

The thread won't be sterile though.

I’ve pricked with sterile needle let it drain the skin will re absorb into it. Never had a septic one yet.

LottyD32 · 27/02/2022 15:42

Pop it with nail clippers while you cut your toenails.

Curlygirl06 · 27/02/2022 16:08

@Soubriquet

I once had a massive blister on the bottom of both of my heels at the same time.

I stupidly pricked them with a porcupine quill, got all the liquid out and was then bothered by the sagging skin….so cut all that off too Grin

I was very lucky not to have any infection or side affects apart from my heels being a bit tender and sensitive where the new skin was showing

I did that last year, I'm 60 and should know better! Not gonna do that again.
ThatsNotMyGolem · 27/02/2022 16:21

with a porcupine quill

@Soubriquet this is beautifully mediaeval!

Soubriquet · 27/02/2022 16:25
Grin

Why thank you. It was the nearest sharp thing I had. Couldn’t be bothered to go find a needle and thought it would work. Which it did. I had it from my work experience at the local wildlife rescue

Milomonster · 27/02/2022 16:54

Wash your hands and pick a tiny part of it with your nails and let the liquid drain out. Very satisfying. Then after a hot bath, peel off the excess skin.

bellac11 · 27/02/2022 18:58

Has this thing been popped yet?

ivykaty44 · 27/02/2022 19:15

don't pop with a needle, unfortunately you can't sterilise the inside of shoes and socks so are putting it at risk of infection

just leave the liquid inside to do its job and wear other shoes and blister plasters

FatFredsFriedEgg · 27/02/2022 19:28

porcupine quill

It's the non-sterility and the width of the thing that bothers me.

FatFredsFriedEgg · 27/02/2022 19:32

I tend to do it in the evening and just wrap a bit of tissue or kitchen towel around it until it dries out. I've been doing that for over 40 years and never had an infection.

I'm sure there's a proven British Army way of dealing with blisters, and I'd guess it doesn't involve porcupine quills or 'other shoes'.

ivykaty44 · 27/02/2022 19:47

British army boots wrecked many soldiers nails and made them thick and crusted, some bad enough the nippers wouldn't cut at almost any angle

squishmycherry · 27/02/2022 19:48

What would Tony Blair do?

I've never had a blister on my toenails.

You mentioned the British army, which brought to mind the boots affect on the nails

you wouldn't get a blister on top of a nail

Obviously. I just know that they know how to deal with blisters! They can (or could) be quite harsh on soldiers if blisters weren't dealt with properly.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 27/02/2022 21:54

you def need to pop it-better for you to do it than for it to rub/pop

look at it like the face of a clock. insert sterilised needle at very bottom point where blister meets toe at 12. 3 , 6 and 9. then gently push on the top so it oozes out evenly and doesn't rip.

expose it to as much fresh air as you can so it dries out

Memyselfandfood · 27/02/2022 21:55

Just squeeze. I’ve had ones bigger and i just squeezed them and shoved a plaster on.
Always fine
