Looking for ideas. No hobbies really at the moment.

Ds is a scout and also plays Pokémon every Saturday. He used to play more but the game is still on hold due to Covid

Kite22 · 26/02/2022 19:11

Mine all did Scouts then Explorers so quite often they would either be on camp or taking part in some activity or competition or fundraising.

One did football. One rugby. One musical theatre.
We also went to Church.

Then sleeping came into it a lot, especially as they became older teens.

MintJulia · 26/02/2022 19:13

He sleeps a lot, cycles, swims, practices martial arts and plays computer games against his mates.

Add in homework and there's not much time for anything else.

I thought most teens had at least a full day of homework and/or revision each weekend. That's what it was like for me as a kid and same for mine. Aside from sporting activities in addition this is commonplace for teens - certainly above 14s - that I know.

Peakypolly · 26/02/2022 19:14

Gaming

My dd didn't always have that much homework to do as a younger teen. She's doing A-levels now so is much busier with school work, but before that, she managed to get most of her work done in the week. Occasionally there would be a lot to do at weekends, but not every week.
onemouseplace · 26/02/2022 19:16

Homework, but that is partly because she likes to leave it until the weekend and get some relaxation in on weekday evenings. Music practice. Sees friends. Is glued to her phone. Reads a bit. Maybe cinema.

She's pretty busy with school clubs and Scouts in the week.

BooksAndHooks · 26/02/2022 19:20

Eldest never did much as he doesn’t go out on his own. He mostly plays online.

dS 2 goes into town with his friends, goes to the cinema, pizza express, there’s a free games place in the shopping centre with table tennis etc they go to, a video game centre where they can play on top of the range games consoles for about £.2.50. The go and play football or go to watch the local team play. Swimming, junior gym. They are always busy. He plays football on Sunday’s. Other clubs are all during the week after school.

They get set the same amount on a Friday night as they do on the other days so it should all be doable by Friday night if needed. Even DS in GCSE year doesn’t spend excessive amounts of time at weekends as it’s carefully scheduled to give a balance.
iklboo · 26/02/2022 19:28

DS(16) has been doing parkour (free running) for a few years. He loves it, it helps him stay fit and make friends.

MargaretThursday · 26/02/2022 19:34

2 teens:
dd18 does orchestra then singing lesson, then dance. May also go shopping with friends
ds14 does tap, singing, drama, musical theatre. May go up to the park to play football with friends.

It sounds like a lot, but they enjoy it. Ds was moaning this morning that he's got to get through a whole week before it starts back again after half term.

harrumphs · 26/02/2022 19:37

@Ripepear

Ok this all sounds fairly similar. I thought maybe others were very busy. He is quite adve guy and always asking to do stuff and telling me he is bored. But I feel like I can’t offer anything other than a dog walk !
Is Scouts the only club available in your area? My year 7 plays football on Sunday's. On Saturday he might go to the park with friends, trampolining, cinema. Today we all just went to the park to play table tennis then he and DH went to watch a football match with one of DS's friends. We are lucky where we live, though, in that there is a huge amount to do should he wish. There's also a fair amount of gaming involved, too!
DelilahBucket · 26/02/2022 19:39

DS14 hobbies are mid week, so weekends are meeting with friends and going to town/cinema/skatepark, he sees his grandad every few weeks for a walk, chilling out at home or doing family stuff with us.

arethereanyleftatall · 26/02/2022 19:40

13yo dd.
Sleeps in late both days.
Football match Saturdays plus dance in the afternoon.
Sundays - goes in to town with friends. Swim training in the evening.
Don't see her, but she seems happy!

Babadook76 · 26/02/2022 19:42

Playing out with their mates mostly. They’ll usually jump on the bus to the local shopping centre/swimming baths on the weekend. Occasionally they’ll catch the bus to the city centre and go to the cinema/bubble tea cafe etc. They’re 13 and 14.

BakewellGin1 · 26/02/2022 20:04

DS13
Football Matches Sat and Sun AM
PM spent gaming, at a friend's or at ours unless he fancies something like cinema, trampoline park, quad biking or Karting.

Weekends are always busy it's the summer holidays etc I need to plan for

Rockbird · 26/02/2022 20:08

14yo dd Irish dancing on Sat morning and family swimming on Sunday morning. Aside from that it's a mix of seeing grandparents, mooching round town with friends or skulking in her room watching God knows what shite on Netflix.

lljkk · 26/02/2022 20:13

yr9, yr13
Both have jobs, paper rounds & chippy.
GAMEing
homework, talking about stuff
Videos, few series they like
Snuggle with cats, dog

yr9 is volunteering for DoE, also does park run for self, and some competitive sport, cooking prep for catering GCSE, cat care. He's very busy, actually
yr13 can be coaxed out on long walks on days not working, very occasional social event, applying for Uni, supermarket runs for sweets

lljkk · 26/02/2022 20:15

my older DC, eldest was in cadets & did a bit with them -- but mostly he sulked & gamed all weekend (& cat snuggled); could be coaxed to come swimming with me

2nd one revised constantly & had busy social life

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 26/02/2022 20:49

My dd seems to have constant exams ( normal Comp) she spends nearly all her time revising which l hate.

I amazed at the ones on here who have all this free time! Maths and physics revision today for 2 exams on Monday. English and Spanish for Tuesday. Then more exams in 2 weeks.

MarshaBradyo · 26/02/2022 20:53

Tbh I don’t know how Ds doesn’t spend more time revising, he seems quite relaxed (I studied a lot)

His grades are good though so I just block that part out

I think being busy just makes them more efficient about how they approach stuff. DD had constant exams as well, but she managed to squeeze everything in somehow.

Kids are just like adults, some like to be super busy and others need more downtime. Neither is right or wrong, it's just a question of what each individual needs to feel happy.

LittleMissA · 26/02/2022 21:36

DD is yr7, we go to parkrun most sat mornings. This afternoon she went to the local ice cream shop with a friend. She often sees a friend round their or our house which we try and get her to arrange now. She may stay at a grandparents house one of the nights with her cousin. We're trying to encourage her to arrange things herself as well as doing a few things as a family.

MostlyNormalSometimesOdd · 26/02/2022 22:32

DS17
Friday evening out with friends
Saturday - Homework / / whatever in the morning, Rugby at noon, chill afternoon, friends in the evening
Sunday, part time job in the gym, school work /

Hellocatshome · 26/02/2022 22:35

DS2 year 7, swims on Saturday morning then does homework, Sunday he just plays xbox etc. Apart from if there is a swim gala then he just swims all weekend.
DS1 14 plays football on Saturday then goes out with his friends or watches our local team if there is a home game. Sunday he sleeps and moves about as only a teenager can. God knows when he does his homework.
