Food price rises

What foods have you noticed a price rise for recently?

You used to be able to get 5 bagels for £1 at Asda. It's now £1.60.

The vegan spread I buy has increased from 1.10 to 1.75 in few months

cafedesreves · 25/02/2022 22:08

Also have noticed a lot of own brand products have disappeared. Not sure if that's linked but I'm now forced to buy branded.

I saw a jar of Dolmio pasta sauce in a Sainsbury's local for £1.95. I haven't bought it in a while but I'm sure it used to be around £1, perhaps slightly more.

Just walking around supermarkets is making me worry at the moment because everything seems to have gone up.

Bigfishlittlepuddle · 25/02/2022 22:46

I'm pretty sure bags of pasta in tesco used to be 50p. Now they are 70p.

catfunk · 25/02/2022 22:56

Loads. Did you see the Jack Monroe inflation Twitter thread ?

cafedesreves · 26/02/2022 06:56

@catfunk I did yes... shocking. She's amazing and has done so much.

Was just wondering what people had specifically noticed in their day to day loves as I found a 60p increase crazy for a product costing £1.

Yes pasta used to be 50p for 500g in Tesco and is now 70p. It doesn’t seem like a lot of money and is still a “cheap” food but that’s a huge percentage increase.

ouch321 · 26/02/2022 07:06

Pretty much everything has gone up by min. 5p

ByHook0rByCrook · 26/02/2022 07:09

Anyone here shop exclusively at Lidl or Aldi? Wondering if they've increased their prices, too.

I've noticed this too, a lot of asda smart price stuff seems to be disappearing. I usually spend a couple of quid on this for the food bank collection but choice is getting smaller.
TDCtomorrow · 26/02/2022 07:12

I noticed Tesco squash. Used to be £1.50 or 2 for £2 now it's £1.75 each

I pretty much shop exclusively in Lidl, I haven't noticed it recent ly but definitely did last year. Some of their own brand stuff has gone though so only the branded (more expensive) version is available
Flippydip · 26/02/2022 07:13

Pizzas! Co-op and Sainsburys now charge around £5 per pizza and it was around £3.50/£4 before. I noticed the price rise recently when 2 pizzas came to over a tenner.

Beachbabe1 · 26/02/2022 07:13

Every single food item on my shopping list has gone up!

User7497521 · 26/02/2022 07:16

Pretty much everything I buy in my general grocery basket has gone up 5-50p. I know the reduced price for most things I buy and have had to mentally up it.

Aldi definitely have. I haven't been studying things too closely to compare across all their products but I always used to think their soft cheese was very cheap at about 50p, it's now 69p.
mugoftea456 · 26/02/2022 07:16

Lots of the deals have ended which has made a huge difference also

Mindymomo · 26/02/2022 07:26

Everything at Tesco seems to have increased, whilst the sizes of cakes, biscuits etc have all gotten smaller. The dog food I get has increased from £4.50 to £5, wouldn’t be so bad but they’ve never got full stock of this item. We have a local Home Bargains where I get a lot of stuff, still saving a lot buying lots of things there.

cafedesreves · 26/02/2022 07:28

@ChimChimeny yes I've noticed this too. Our nursery has a food bank (😥) and I try to buy lots for it every week, but it's costing me a huge amount more to do so.

Everything.

Along with electricity and gas and everything, I'm really worried about the next few years.

A lot of society is barely scraping by as is.

Crowdfundingforcake · 26/02/2022 07:35

I think Aldi and Lidl have increased prices by less than the other stores - eg pasta still 40p for 500g. I've noticed fresh produce going up - cherry toms used to be 69p, now 89p, peppers 89p for 3 now over £1. I also noticed there still seems to be reasonable offers on 'junk' food - wish they'd stop this and put the offers on fresh stuff and staples like pasta, beans, flour etc.

Mostly stopped shopping at any of the big supermarkets unless they have good offers on something I want.

MouseyMoose · 26/02/2022 07:37

I took a picture of a shopping receipt at the start of covid when we were first warned about food prices rising, just so I had it for reference in future. Really need to trawl back through my pics to find it and compare it to the receipt when I do our next food shop.
