Shewee

I think I need to shop for a shewee. I went on Safari in South Africa in 2019 before the world went crazy. I loved it so much, but I wasn’t a huge fan of having to pull down my pants and squat behind a bush for a call of nature during a safari drive. All things going well, I’m off to do it again in May (💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻) and feel a Shewee is the way forward.

Has anyone here any experience of using one? Did you need to practice much to get the hang of it? Any tips or recommendations for a particular products (I see there are now several variations on the original)?

I got one to take on the Inca Trail many years ago. Had tried it out in the shower before we went. Used it once and ended up soaked! Had to carry those trousers and pants in a nappy sack for two days! Squatting was easier!

NannyGythaOgg · 24/02/2022 23:20

I got a generic one.

Takes some getting use to. Learned to use it in the shower first and when a it more confident, in the loo. I still can't use it through a fly, I need to be able to stand with my legs spread a bit.

But - given the constraints, it's fine. No squatting.

In your position, I would get one (maybe different styles) asap and get practising.

Thanks girls 👍

Haven't used one myself but advice from a friend who camps a lot is don't hold it fully against your body like you're trying to make a seal...apparatus just causes splashback and the best technique is hold slightly away from you and aim.

I think I'd just squat personally 😅

TooManyAnimals94 · 24/02/2022 23:41

*apparently not apparatus

Gingembre · 24/02/2022 23:50

If you're wearing trousers, you'll need to pull them down over your behind..making awaiting a natural next step. Perhaps wearing a skirt would make it easier than getting the bum cheeks out!

I've got one and also tried in the shower a few times. Problem was it wasn't entirely reliable - or my technique wasn't up to scratch. I wouldn't risk using it for real because of that, so haven't.

Get the one with the removeable nozzle, allows aiming away from clothing/feet.
Don't hold on too long, if flow is too powerful it will overtop it.
Form a tight seal, otherwise it will go everywhere.
Unless you have a fly you still need to pull clothing down quite a way.
Use a square of kitchen roll to wipe, you can fit several used ones in the box if necessary - remember to carry them out.
Can soak in milton to wash.
Period pants are handy for catching any drips.

I used one at a festival. Worked fine the first couple of times but unfortunately as the night progressed my aim did not!

Madcatgal21 · 25/02/2022 00:03

I used one in Asia for squat hole toilets and a few roadside wees. I was grateful to have it for an emergency, although as others have said it isn't always that reliable. I ended up with wet trousers once and that made me a bit nervous afterwards, although I think the spillage was probably caused by the flow force. I have one with the extended spout and remember it being mostly fine for aim. Good luck!

Deathraystare · 25/02/2022 07:24

Bloody hell, just when you think something comes along that is the answer to our prayers!

I guess I will have to strap a commode to my back!

I was wondering the other day how well a shewee would work but I am so clumsy so that is a no.

I had to do a wee specimen for a nurse. She was so pleased with herself cos she had found a funnel and reckoned it would be easier for me. Nope. Overflowed and trying to take the funnel out, I splashed wee over myself!! I am Queen of the Klutzes though.

Carpediem15 · 25/02/2022 07:32

Whiz Freedom is a better shape than Shewee. Used it quite a lot whilst travelling.

ClemDanFango · 25/02/2022 07:34

I thought you’d misspelled She-Ra

Pitch and Trek Female Urinal - Travel Urination Device w/Carry Bag - Road Trip, Camping & Hiking Essentials for Women - Festival Accessories – Pink www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07PH2P3KZ/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_9CQQ15Q9APM1J9DDPFM8?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 I have this one which I liked the look of more than the She-wee. Sorry about the link, I used to know how to do the cute short ones but have forgotten! It's great! I can't squat, I'm not steady enough on my feet, especially on uneven ground as it often is when we go walking. This is easy. I usually wear bum covering tops when I walk anyway so that isn't an issue.

Okay, I ordered the Shewee Extreme (oh yes, rock and roll) before reading suggestions for others. I’ll try it - a lot. If the results are poor or unreliable for me, I’ll work through the others. Potentially expensive, but it will be worth it, if I find one I’m confident with and don’t have to squat amongst the insects and snakes, whilst being watched by a leopard in the African bush 😮

I tried the Shewee the one with the ‘extension’ tube. My first time (standing in the shower naked from the waist down). One of the reviews on Amazon said not to hold it close at the front, but at the back, more or less at the perineum. Amazingly, I had a perfect result. I try it many more times before the trip, but I’m really happy with it!

Definitely get plenty of practice in. I thought I'd practiced enough but I made an absolute mess of myself the 1st time I did it on location!

PuppyPowerTool · 04/03/2022 06:46

I found it pointless I'm afraid, had to practically get undressed to use it, then just weed all down myself. Good luck!

NannyR · 04/03/2022 06:54

I've got one, but I just can't get the technique right for me to use it reliably outdors. I've practised in the shower and got it working great, practiced at home wearing trousers and aiming into the loo, most of the time it works perfectly but sometimes, despite holding it in the same place etc my trousers get soaked and I can't risk that happening when I'm out walking.

Dilbertian · 04/03/2022 16:44

Neither my dds nor I ever got the hang of the Shewee, despite much practice in the shower. We use pStyles. One advantage of the pStyle is that it 'wipes' you as you remove it. We each keep ours in a plastic sandwich bag for the duration of the outing, rinsed if possible, and bring it in the dishwasher when we return.

AnnieSnap · 04/03/2022 18:46

Oh dear and there was me thinking I have the knack. It must be bloody awful to pee of yourself when out in the wild with other people 😳

OP posts:
Sexnotgender · 04/03/2022 18:51

Tried it. My body does not comply.

Was in the absolute arse end of nowhere and bursting for a wee. Whipped out my shewee, my body would not let go!

StarlightLady · 05/03/2022 07:21

How do you keep it clean immediately after you have use it? Stale wee smells. I wouldn’t want to carry that around with me afterwards. And you still need to wipe.

If it’s warm, longish skirt and no knickers would work easier l think.

Hercisback · 05/03/2022 07:28

Don't try when you're desperate, you over flow it!

Shudacudawuda · 05/03/2022 07:34

I used one at a festival and had no issues, I really liked it. I cannot squat so it's a better option for me.
