Just wondering if there's any way I can prevent it coming out into a proper sore and scab?? It's just an underlip lump at the moment... I have an important job interview on Tuesday and really don't want a coldsore for it! Typical!!
Any advice welcome please??

Have you got any l-lysine. Might be too late now but worth a try.

theremustonlybeone · 24/02/2022 19:51

I have suffered for 40yrs and the only thing that has been effective for me is lipzor...i bought one when it was only 30 pounds and has been the best purchase ever. Cream etc almost seem to bring the sore out and create a mass mess on my mouth

Arghhconfused · 24/02/2022 19:52

Organic 100% vanilla extract, put it on. Cover with a plaster and it stops it in its tracks. I didn't believe it until I tried it.

Ice can sometimes stop them coming through. Otherwise, heat can help them come through quicker. In either case, use compeed patches to prevent spreading, scabbing and discomfort.

Sunnysideup999 · 24/02/2022 19:53

Zovirax. Works every time as soon as see a lump coming.

theremustonlybeone · 24/02/2022 20:22

zovirax has never worked like that for me and just brought my sores to a large blister quicker. It was ok if you caught it at the tingle phase.. none of the 'dab it with this etc'worked for me. Hope it works for Op though

HalfBrick · 24/02/2022 20:39

As a pp said zovirax cream just makes it blister quicker but I tried one of those stickers (compeed?) last week and it kept it under control, it was a small coldsore, have yet to try on a monster one. I wasn't self conscious with the sticker at all, not like the dazzling white cream!

PosiePerkinPootleFlump · 24/02/2022 20:42

One of these works well if you zap it as soon as you first feel it www.weldricks.co.uk/products/herpotherm-cold-sore-heat-pen?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=GoogleShop%22&gclid=CjwKCAiA9tyQBhAIEiwA6tdCrJ5rlHAb7B-hexZ7Ou-2ZMLcjSUxgeUR5rYCvjp5rAlunA4fu4NRZhoCrrgQAvD_BwE
Some large Boots stores sell them

Forestdweller11 · 24/02/2022 20:59

Compeed sticker. Much better than the creams. Think it sort of suffocates the cold sore 😂😂

Ginandplatonic · 24/02/2022 21:02

I find if I carry Zovirax with me and put it on very frequently (every time I think about it, much more frequently than the directions say) it will stop it blistering or at least stop it getting very big and obvious, even when it’s got to the lump stage.

Rizzoli123 · 24/02/2022 21:04

My dad said vinegar. Bear in mind he is an older dad. I tried it once sort of worked but I smelt like a chip shop

MotherWol · 24/02/2022 21:04

These worked for me, they’re hydrocolloid plasters (effectively the same as Compeed plasters) www.amazon.co.uk/Dots-Original-Absorbing-Patches-Cruelty/dp/B07SST3DHJ?ref_=ast_sto_dp&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

petalsandstars · 24/02/2022 21:05

Compeed plasters every time

Morgan12 · 24/02/2022 21:05

Bonjela.
The normal bonjela that's for ulcers not coldsores. Heap it on constantly. This kills my coldsores in a day.
They do sometimes still develop but they are not too bad after doing this and don't last as long.

Wilma55 · 24/02/2022 21:06

My dad used to swear by aftershave!

Viviennemary · 24/02/2022 21:06

I agree with the Compeed patches. Far better than Zovirax

loopylu26 · 24/02/2022 21:08

Tea tree oil has worked for me before a blister otherwise Zovirax

pinkfondu · 24/02/2022 21:09

The only thing I have found that keeps them from being the big bloody cracked mess is the patches.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 24/02/2022 21:09

My dad used to swear by aftershave!
I've put perfume on more than once when I've had nothing else and it seems to work
AuntyMabelandPippin · 24/02/2022 21:10

As a pp said, Zovirax, applied frequently. Works every time.

TrickyD · 24/02/2022 21:11

In the olden days when GPs existed, you might have been able to get a prescription for Valtrex. Very effective but prescription only so minimal chance of your getting your hands it nowadays.

Mumsnut · 24/02/2022 21:11

strong black coffee, dabbed on frequently as soon as you feel the tingle

Violetsinvases · 24/02/2022 21:12

I am not medically trained but I dabbed hydrocortisone cream on mine and it really reduced it and made it clear up, you can buy mild strength over the counter but the stronger strength one is prescription only. I think you have to be careful when using it though and should avoid if you have weakened immunity but it worked for me. Probably should speak to the pharmacist first though

Shortbreadselection · 24/02/2022 21:14

No personal experience but I read that putting a hot spoon on can help.

Punkypinky · 24/02/2022 21:15

My mum swears by oregano oil. It's flipping expensive (28 pounds for a small bottle).
She brought some the other day when we were shopping for a cold sore. It really did heal it significantly in a couple of hours I was surprised how well it worked!
