This isn't me it's a friend.

Her dad's getting assessment at memory clinics etc And today forgot his name and where he was.
Friend Said she's visiting solicitor this week to see if the house can be put into her name.

I'm sure on here

It’s not a bitchy post at all. It’s the truth. Your friend is trying to pull a fast one so others pay for her fathers care. It’s frankly disgusting and won’t work. Don’t drip feed about a brother taking the house when you know he can’t. The house will be in the dad and mums names so the brother can’t take the house and make decisions as he isn’t next of kin . Rather then getting her dad the amount of care he deserves all she thinks about is putting her name on the house. His assets will be used to pay for his care and rightly so.

If the DW is still alive and resident in the home- then the care system cannot take the house from her. She has a right to a home.

Best things they can look at is whose name any savings are in so that they are at least equally split between the two... not all in the man's name as is often the case with older couples. If there are significant funds then they could start using them for whatever purpose that might be (bearing in mind the inheritance tax rules of course).

Hopefully they have sorted LPA today - that's a good move for anyone preferably before they get to this point.
