Would you let your child go to a party on a school day?

After school, 3-6pm. Child collected straight from school. Craft/film party, cake and popcorn or other party bits, not a meal. Ages 9-10.
Would it make a difference if your child had a test two days later i.e. party on Tuesday, test on Thursday morning?

Of course I’d let them go!

AmbushedByCake · 23/02/2022 14:30

Yes, of course. The test wouldn't make any difference. It's hardly like they're staying up drinking until midnight Grin

Artesia · 23/02/2022 14:30

100% yes. Honestly can’t imagine why not. It’s not as if they are toddlers and need to be bathed and in bed. My kids are younger than that and have regular mid week activities that finish much later.

Yeahbutnotreally · 23/02/2022 14:30

Yes

sadpapercourtesan · 23/02/2022 14:31

I thought it was going to be a Y11 and an all-night piss-up!

Of course I'd let a primary school kid go. Plenty of time when they're older for angsting about tests.

shamoola · 23/02/2022 14:31

This party finishes at the same time as after school wrap around care. Can't see what the problem is.

Houseplantmad · 23/02/2022 14:38

Yes. Can't see an issue with it.

caranations · 23/02/2022 14:38

Of course I would.

RandomQuest · 23/02/2022 14:39

I don’t see the issue…

Severntrent · 23/02/2022 14:44

Yes no question. Cant think of test that would be that important at that age?

RampantIvy · 23/02/2022 14:45

Of course. Why wouldn't you?

Comefromaway · 23/02/2022 14:45

Good grief yes. The only thing that would stop me was if my child already had a paid for activity after school.

OutdoorType · 23/02/2022 14:46

As everyone else has said, yes definitely

Why wouldn't you? It's not exactly an 18yr old going out drinking 2 nights before an A level! Chill.

FKATondelayo · 23/02/2022 14:48

I thought you meant INSTEAD of going to school. Grin

Yes, I would and i have done.

Yicky · 23/02/2022 14:49

Of course

MaizeAmaze · 23/02/2022 14:49

So long as I wasn't required at the school pick up, yes that would be fine.

What type of test does a 9/10 year old have that will have consequences if they don't do as well as expected?

girlmom21 · 23/02/2022 14:49

I'm guessing you're the host from the way it's written? It's fine

MichaelAndEagle · 23/02/2022 14:49

Yes absolutely. Are the person throwing the party or has your child been invited to one?

Scbchl · 23/02/2022 14:50

Why wouldn't you and a test at that age isn't really important.

Hermymee · 23/02/2022 14:50

Of course I would! I wouldn’t even give it a second thought, let alone post on mumsnet.

What test is that important at 9/10?

Shostaklovhich · 23/02/2022 14:51

Absolutely would.

OwlBasket · 23/02/2022 14:53

Gosh. Yes. It would be pretty strange not to allow it, not to mention stigmatising for the child too.

Babadook76 · 23/02/2022 14:53

Why do you think it would be an issue. And why is a child that age talking tests that are more important than attending birthday parties?
