Would you let your child go to a party on a school day?

After school, 3-6pm. Child collected straight from school. Craft/film party, cake and popcorn or other party bits, not a meal. Ages 9-10.
Would it make a difference if your child had a test two days later i.e. party on Tuesday, test on Thursday morning?

Yes, quite normal.

chesirecat99 · 23/02/2022 14:55

Seriously?

What kind of test can a 9/10 year old be taking that:

  1. requires any more studying than a quick recap the night before and a good night's rest?
  2. it matters whether they don't perform their absolute best on one occasion?

If it's an entrance exam, one night off to go to a party shouldn't make a difference to their performance if they are prepared.

How hard are you pushing them if you think a test in 2 days time is more important than socialising?

maddy68 · 23/02/2022 15:00

Yes of course!

Idontevenknow · 23/02/2022 15:01

Yea of course. Are you making a child that age study for a test days in advance?

Findahouse21 · 23/02/2022 15:03

Yes, although I'd be slightly miffed that they wouldn't be having a meal as I'd need to give one later than usually which dd would likely reject if she's had lots of popcorn/cake, but would need to be able to sleep well. Would it be possible to provide slightly more substantial snacks such as cold nuggets/pizza/sandwiches?

Chubbymummy12 · 23/02/2022 15:03

Of course

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 23/02/2022 15:04

Totally; but that timing would expect them to be fed a proper meal

deadlanguage · 23/02/2022 15:04

Yes of course that’s fine. What kind of test does a 10yo have that they can’t take a couple of hours away from studying?

itsgettingweird · 23/02/2022 15:06

Of course.

And they are 9!

You make it sound like they've been invited to a party Sunday night and have a gcse on Monday morning!

Satingreenshutters · 23/02/2022 15:06

This has to be a piss take.

jackstini · 23/02/2022 15:13

Yes of course, and have done many times
Can't believe this is even a question! Confused

nearlyspringyay · 23/02/2022 15:14

Of course, but how does 3-6 fit in with school? Mine don't finish until 310 and then need to get to venue?

nearlyspringyay · 23/02/2022 15:15

Sorry see collected straight from school. They won't want a meal, it's a party.

SartresSoul · 23/02/2022 15:19

My DD was invited to an after school one once and I couldn’t do it. It was at 4pm, they finish school at 3:10 and it was at a leisure centre in the next town. I didn’t have the car that day so it would have been a bus trip but the way the bus times worked out, we’d have struggled to get there on time. She’d also have had to either attend in uniform or get changed in the bus station toilets. Weekend parties just work much better.

gogohm · 23/02/2022 15:20

Of course, many are on school days!

SonicBroom · 23/02/2022 15:22

Yes would go. Great idea. No wouldn’t bother about test at all.

PeacefulPrune · 23/02/2022 15:23

Yes. Why not? It's not passed their bedtime.

GiveMeNovocain · 23/02/2022 15:26

Yes but like others I'd expect them to be fed buffet type food so pizza/sandwiches etc as well as just a snack. That's standard for any party over a mealtime

Alwayswonderedwhy · 23/02/2022 15:26

Yes, it's a perfectly normal thing to happen. I would feed them though given the time if the party.

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 23/02/2022 15:26

Yes of course, can’t think of anyone I know who would not allow this.

Phormiumjester · 23/02/2022 15:29

They might be grumpy without a snack before cake time but yes, no worries! Surely 9 year old aren't revising???

Hugasauras · 23/02/2022 15:30

Yes! Surely a 9yo isn't spending every evening revising for a primary school test??

deeplyrooted · 23/02/2022 15:33

I’d raise an eyebrow at the wisdom of not providing sandwiches or pizza, but the time is fine.

HanSB · 23/02/2022 15:38

Yes but would expect child to be fed pizza or similar rather than just cake and popcorn for that time period.

Bibbetybobbity · 23/02/2022 15:39

Is the test the 11+? That might change my mind given the build up, but otherwise absolutely no problem. And tbh even then it could work well- a night off and chance to relax.
