World book Day outfit for 11 month old

Hello- my 11 month old is due to start nursery soon and is going for some settling in sessions soon. On one of these days he's going in for only 2 hours and I've been told it's world book Day. Even if I had the skills to stitch a costume i just don't have the time to do it with a 11 month old baby that's not sleeping, nor do I want to spend loads of money on a costume that will only be worn for 2 hours and baby will not even notice this! Could I just send him in a lion king babygrow or something or will he look really out of place without a proper costume hence making me look like a terrible lazy mum?

In a baby room where they haven't a clue, I'd be a lion king babygrow or Beatrice Potter, grufflo or whatever character clothing you happen to have.
I wouldn't be buying a dress up outfit for a baby. I've seen babies scared of their own outfits!

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 21/02/2022 16:16

Tiger babygro?
Tiger Who Came To Tea.

Honestly I'd send them as a muggle from HP (ie in their own clothes!), how ridiculous to do world book day at that age! I don't think we had to deal with it until pre-school age thankfully!

What a complete and utter waste of time.

I would refuse to do it.

But if you can't bear to do that dress him in any dark coloured baby grow and say he is a full stop. There is at least one in every book!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 21/02/2022 16:30

Do you have any babygrows that look like an animal?

The babies have no idea.

SartresSoul · 21/02/2022 16:31

You can buy loads of Gruffalo or Beatrix potter clothes on the high street so I’d just go for something like that. Not a one off outfit but something they can wear a few times.

merryhouse · 21/02/2022 16:39

My advice is not to bother. Child won't have the faintest idea.

If you really want to, dress him in brown clothes with three coloured circles down the front - the Gingerbread Man (a huge hit with my 4yo, back in the day).

Liverbird77 · 21/02/2022 16:41

I absolutely hate this. It has nothing to do with reading!
Don't bother with it at all. It's not compulsory.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 21/02/2022 16:45

Has he got a striped T-shirt? Where's Wally?
Brown trousers and t-shirt - Stickman
Draw some whiskers on his face - cat from thousands of stories!

Mummynextdoor · 21/02/2022 16:49

Have you baby grows with any kind of pattern in them - cars, dinosaurs, planes, trucks, diggers, any kind of animal - as there is a "That's not my" book for most things!

At a nursery setting it's more for the pre school children but the nurseries will include all children - it's entirely up to you if you want to get involved.

Fleur405 · 21/02/2022 16:56

I absolutely would not bother with this! The babies in the baby room will be entirely oblivious to world book day!

I’ve never seen any hand made costumes in my kids school, much everyone just buys one from the shop

Vanillaradio · 21/02/2022 17:07

Find any baby gro or t-shirt with book/film character on and send him in that. Ds went in a Gruffalo t-shirt every single year at nursery!

Big difference between school and a baby room in a nursery.

I wouldn't be attempting to put a baby in a nylon scratchy outfit that isn't exactly designed for nappy changes. Nor would I waste money on one for that age.

Normal clothes and a lighting scar with a lip liner = baby Harry Potter.

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 21/02/2022 17:14

Did they actually say they expect your dc to dress up or did they just mention its workd book day?
Every nursery I've been to has a range of children in different forms of dress up. Some will have over the top costumes (few and far between and generally in preschool) most have bought costumes or recycled onesies or a Halloween witch or skeleton.
For the baby room I either wouldnt bother or if you have something already with a character on the baby grow just use that

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 21/02/2022 17:15

Has he got a toy elephant/t shirt with an elephant on. He could be baby from The Elephant and the Bad Baby?

RedCandyApple · 21/02/2022 17:16

Yeh I wouldn’t buy one either it’s not worth it for a couple of hours just pointing out that most people don’t go to great lengths over world book day most just get something from the supermarket

LizzieBet14 · 21/02/2022 17:16

How bloody ridiculous! Shock

Happenchance · 21/02/2022 17:18

Smear some guacamole on him and say he's the Avacado Baby Grin

frogsbreath · 21/02/2022 17:23

Just to satisfy them in the most basic form, any piece of clothing related to an animal (Peter rabbit, hungry caterpillar, tiger who came to tea, dear zoo etc)

Any blue dress is Matilda, red and white stripes anything is where's Wally, any Halloween witchy clothing is countless witch characters from books

A pillowcase over a baby grow and tied at shoulders is dobby, red baby grow or any kind of top and bottoms and write thing 1 or 2 on it

Blue t shirt/baby grow and a piece of bandage tied around is mr bump

Blue and white check dress is Dorothy

Really hate buying things for world book day unless I can use again. Many at nursery and school just have clothing re purposed or a gold foil or cardboard golden ticket safety pinned on Grin

ChikaCherryCola · 21/02/2022 17:23

I really wouldn't bother with an 11 month old. It's not liked he'll feel left out if he's the only one not dressed up! All my children went to nursery but Book Day activities didn't start until school.

modgepodge · 21/02/2022 17:31

Clearly this is a complete waste of time. Generally I think dressing up for WBD is going out of fashion, for environmental reasons as well as many parents hating it.

Being charitable, the nursery is doing it and has told you in case you want to join in so you don’t turn up clueless and feel left out. There will be no issue with not taking part. My daughter is almost 3 and we’ve never dressed up and won’t be this year. Up until now, she would have been clueless, this year if her setting were doing it I’d probably have done something using what we have at home.

emuloc · 21/02/2022 17:35

I would not even entertain this. Totally ridiculous at that age, just no.

emuloc · 21/02/2022 17:37

World book day should never have gone beyond bringing in the child's favourite book to school, imo.
