Would you live in Virgin River?

Only at the beginning of season 2 (so please no big spoilers!) but my answer is no!

Normally those small town shows with beautiful countryside make me want to pack up and go, but not this time. You have to drive so far to get anywhere - 2 hours each way for a date, no thank you! They’re far too far from a hospital (gives me palpitations just thinking about), umm drug growers taking up?! Contaminating the water and being a generally terrifying threat! Breaking down on the road and being stuck for hours, again the drug growers come down.

Whenever Mel is stuck somewhere and Jack needs to drive her home I think “thank god he’s not a sexual predator”.

So no I don’t actually want to live there Grin anyone else?

Anyone else seen a tv show that looks idealistic but has actually put you off?

No. Too far off beaten track!

hilbil21 · 19/02/2022 21:53

I would like to go to jacks bar a lot Smile

Teeheehee1579 · 19/02/2022 21:54

Virgin river definitely too dark a place for me. I’d like serenity or hope springs though (although in practise I’d probably hate everyone knowing everyone’s business!)

Not with DC, no.

But myself I would.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/02/2022 21:55

I couldn't do my job there, so I would probably have to join the dodgy weed growers to make some money.

Yep with you there 😍
MrsTerryPratchett · 19/02/2022 21:55

Nope. Small towns are a bloody nightmare. I'd piss someone off immediately and be gossiped about.

I might have a holiday at Jack's though.

Serenity would work - I know in real life a town could never be that small town southern charm without Trumpism but if it was really like that then yes Grin

Wouldn’t you get bored and lonely? It’d take you an hour to drive to Jack’s right?

No, but would enjoy a holiday there!

BiscuitLover3678 · 19/02/2022 21:57

Schitts creek would be much safer although a very dull place in reality!

No, because the amount of times she’s says ‘nurse practitioner’ irritates me in the show let alone living near her. God, she’d be throwing it in every conversation. And yes, I am aware it’s a tv show and not real life!

betwixtlives · 19/02/2022 21:59

Virgin river, no. Stars hollow, YES

ToastandJamandTea · 19/02/2022 22:00

Stars Hollow is the place for me!

Classica · 19/02/2022 22:00

I'd love to go to Stars Hollow (Gilmore Girls world) but in reality I'd hate everyone knowing my name, knowing my business and insisting on being quirky to me when I was popping out for some bread and toilet paper! Grin

mnahmnah · 19/02/2022 22:00

I agree. On other programmes like Sweet Magnolias, Chesapeake Shores, Gilmore Girls - they have a warm community feel and despite them being a bit backwards in some ways, you can imagine it’s a good place to live. Virgin River doesn’t. There’s no humour at all in the programme, which doesn’t help. Everything is so earnest and intense.

I dont understand this complaint.

A nurse practitioner has had more education and training than a registered nurse.

She cant say, "I'm a nurse" because she isnt. She is a nurse practitioner. They're different things.

Would you get annoyed at someone saying, "I'm a doctor" or "I'm a nurse". No, probably not. A nurse practitioner is a totally different job title from nurse.

Classica · 19/02/2022 22:02

Yes, that's what I thought when watching it. Gorgeous town, beautiful houses, everyone's sweet and wholesome but I was thinking 'Trump voter' 'another Trump voter' 'that one probably tried to storm the Capitol'.

PurplePansy05 · 19/02/2022 22:04

If I had a Jack there then maybe, but it wouldn't be my first choice!

MonkeyPuddle · 19/02/2022 22:04

@Itsalmostanaccessory I get that they’re two different things. I am a nurse myself.
But she says it aaaalllll the time. She could be buying milk and she’s saying it.

mnahmnah · 19/02/2022 22:05

@PurplePansy05

Jack is hot, but he’s bloody miserable isn’t he?! You don’t see them having a laugh much

PurplePansy05 · 19/02/2022 22:07

Upon consideration though, I'd be exactly like MrsTerryPratchett, so probably a bad idea for someone like me. Having nosey neighbours in a 'naice' suburban area with an equally annoying facebook group where they talk about boring shit is bad enough.

Samcro · 19/02/2022 22:07

No, too many badies.
Chespeake shores is nice though.
But i really want to live on heartland ranch.

PurplePansy05 · 19/02/2022 22:09

@mnahmnah Yeah, but he is hot Grin I think they need to let off with the dramas tbh and agree, make Jack less serious. I think there's potential in him, yet to resurface Grin

Loopytiles · 19/02/2022 22:09

No one has a laugh in virgin river, as PPs say! Sooooo dull, personality wise.
