I did textile design, would do it again, pretty relevant to current job.

English Literature. Would absolutely do it again. It isn't really relevant to my job as such, but I do need to read a lot very quickly, draw inferences and information out of big wodges of text, write clearly and engagingly, find interesting stories and create and communicate an argument, all of which it fitted me well for (as would history I imagine, and maybe theology and languages).

Hellocatshome · 18/02/2022 16:27

Degree is Journalism completely unrelated to any job I have ever done, I would have to do it again because if I didnt I wouldn't have met DH and had the DCs.

WeAllHaveWings · 18/02/2022 16:30

Computer Studies in the 80s. Technology has moved on a fair bit since then so what I learnt about then probably doesn't exist anymore!

flashpaper · 18/02/2022 16:31

Psychology. Wouldn't do it again, absolutely nothing to do with what I'm doing now.

I have a second bachelors degree specific to my job in healthcare now (think radiology, physiotherapist, nurse etc) which obviously is very relevant but I'm not sure I would do it again, just because working in the NHS isn't the best at the moment.

NuffSaidSam · 18/02/2022 16:35

Psychology

Relevant to what I do now to a point, but it isn't essential.

I'd definitely go to university and would probably do the same again, maybe look for something slightly more specific.

thesugarbumfairy · 18/02/2022 16:37

Mechanical engineering. Never used it other than to get me on a Masters degree in IT. Probably looks good on paper but I don't think anyone's seen my CV since 2012. Including me.
Would I do it again? If I had a brain that worked like it did when I was 18, then yes. Would I do it now at 47. LOL not a chance!

Holidaypls2022 · 18/02/2022 16:40

Sociology. Had an absolute blast. Has been zero use to me. Would like to think I'd choose better if I had my time again..but I enjoyed it and met fantastic people that I'm still friends with 26 years later.

rosemaryjune · 18/02/2022 16:41

History! Wouldn't do it again. Would study languages/business/marketing with some industry placement

SweetPotatoDumpling · 18/02/2022 16:42

BEd...I'm a teacher, so I'd say it's pretty relevant 😆

SweetPotatoDumpling · 18/02/2022 16:44

Oh...and no, if I could turn back the clock 30 years, I'd definitely pick a different degree...ANY degree!!! I wouldn't have gone into teaching if I'd known then what it was going to be like now 😢

MarshaBradyo · 18/02/2022 16:44

I did two degrees - economics and arts with major in English literature/ criticism

I’d do it again although it made me feel a bit torn re which direction to go with career. Friends who did the same felt similar, some going towards finance others more creative

TheGirlInTheGreenDress · 18/02/2022 16:49

History and Sociology. Possibly helped with the writing element of my career but otherwise the impact was minimal. If I was to start again I would chose a more vocational subject that lead to a career.

YellowLemonshade · 18/02/2022 16:58

French.
Totally and utterly irrelevant to my career or anything I've done since.
Other than occasional holidays, I never speak it.
Shame, really. I was essentially bilingual by the time I graduated. A lot of leaning gone to waste.

amusedbush · 18/02/2022 17:02

I studied management. I now teach management at a university so relevant, but not what I want to be doing.

However, I went to uni when I was 26 and I'm glad I waited. When I originally planned to go at 18, I wanted to study English Literature with French, which probably wouldn't have taken me anywhere.

Vampirethriller · 18/02/2022 17:02

Ancient Roman History and Archaeology.
Entirely irrelevant as I've spent my life running nightclubs, cooking, or homeless.
Wouldn't do it again. I'd do something useful.

BuddhaForMary · 18/02/2022 17:05

Journalism, and yes because that's the career I wanted

muddyford · 18/02/2022 17:07

BSc chemistry, then a decade later an MA in theology. If I had my time again I would do agriculture.

Cinders15 · 18/02/2022 17:11

Management
I already had my technical computer qualifications so broke through to IT Management - very rare then in Local Govt and then in NHS
Finished my career as an IT Programme Manager running project portfolios

Isseywith3witchycats · 18/02/2022 17:13

BA (hons) English & history loved doing my degree did it part time from 40 -45 and yes would do it again but did it to prove i could not for career would probably pick something like Archeology this time round though but cant afford it now 20 years later

Midlander88 · 18/02/2022 17:15

I did Fine Art, now I'm a writer.

Definitely wouldn't do it again, it's not worthy of thousands of pounds in a loan.

Flockameanie · 18/02/2022 17:18

Actually, any humanities subject will develop these core transferable skills that are required for many, many professional jobs. I’d also add: critical thinking and reading - arguably essential skills just for life, in terms of thinking about the information we receive via the media and whatnot. (As I always tell parents on open days - I’m an academic in the humanities although not a subject you’ve listed).
Notdoingthis · 18/02/2022 17:22

Loved every minute of my languages degree and use it every day. I would love to do it again.

frazzledfragglefromfragglerock · 18/02/2022 17:22

Geography - I'm a geography teacher.

If I did it all again I'd do maths as a second subject (which was an option with my degree) but I didn't have the confidence then.

I didn't plan to be a teacher particularly but it was on my mental list of options.

If I had my time again I'd definitely look at town planning jobs with more if a focus, I had a couple if interviews but didn't really pursue it.

Would still be a geography based job.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 18/02/2022 18:28

Law degree. Essential for my job as a solicitor.

If I was to do it all again I would do the degree but wouldn’t become a solicitor. No idea what else I would do but nothing could be a stressful as what I do now.

autienotnaughty · 18/02/2022 19:07

Relational therapy. Not at all relevant to what I do but I enjoyed it all the same.
