I did textile design, would do it again, pretty relevant to current job.

I did a Bachelor in Music - honours, so 4 years - and I would definitely do it again. At the exact same institution. The teaching was top level.

It’s been invaluable to my career and of course relevant to my current job - I’m a performing musician Grin

BigPurpleEgg · 18/02/2022 19:12

Not relevant to my current job, but I did a PGCE here and the subject of my original degree helped me be accepted. Still glad I did it, I enjoyed it and its a useful skill

16HamstersCalledThemAllDave · 18/02/2022 19:42

French - absolutely loved it but not relevant to what I do now. I do have a love of languages, their history, grammar etc. so it's definitely enriched my life if not my career.

Would definitely do it again but would maybe do Double Hons with Law or similar.

Mumski45 · 18/02/2022 19:45

I did Maths and I'm an accountant. Absolutely relevant, I enjoyed doing it and would still do it if I had my time again.

Cluelessasacucumber · 18/02/2022 19:49

Biology. Good grounding for my career, but pretty much any natural or earth science would have been. I would do choose it again, but would do a placement year or integrated masters.

PiratePetespajamas · 18/02/2022 19:52

My (humanities) degree was immensely enjoyable and fulfilling and is directly relevant to my (very poorly paid) job. BUT I wouldn’t do it these days, not with the level of loans and fees incurred - I just couldn’t justify that, having taken the career path I have.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/02/2022 19:53

Classics. Would absolutely do it again. I loved the subject and loved my university. Also met the man who has been my husband for nearly 40 years. My subsequent work history didn't have any direct relevance to Classics but as has been pointed out above an Arts/Humanities degree is evidence of having various extremely useful transferable skills. It certainly got me into the professional training I pursued in my 20s.

CrimbleCrumble1 · 18/02/2022 19:56

Sociology, then I worked in care. I’d do it again, I loved it and use it every day when I think about things.

Marchingredsoldiers · 18/02/2022 19:58

Chemistry - i am a chemistry and maths teacher so totally relevant. But love it so much i would love to do a chemical engineering degree just for fun, if I could ever afford the time or money.

Berlioz23 · 18/02/2022 20:01

Pharmacy, I’m a pharmacist so very relevant. Not a chance I’d do it again, if I had my time again I’d go into finance probably.

AudTheDeepMinded · 18/02/2022 20:06

Geography and History and then an MA in Archaeology. Worked in heritage management for c 12 years and have been proof reading archaeological texts for the last 8ish years. So very relevant. However, now considering returning to university to do something totally different. Time for a change!

MintJulia · 18/02/2022 20:10

Business and Marketing and yes, I would do it again. It helped me have a 35 year career in tech marketing.

Norugratsatall · 18/02/2022 20:10

Music. No I probably wouldn't do it again but I loved every single minute of it!

OublietteBravo · 18/02/2022 20:12

Chemistry. I’m a patent attorney, so it is fairly relevant to my job (although I deal with inventions in other fields too - everything from biotech to mechanical engineering). I’d definitely do it again - I enjoyed the subject and it’s definitely been a useful degree to have.

Gherkingreen · 18/02/2022 20:12

Law and politics, couple of decades ago (with post-grad in journalism) - both vital for my career in journalism and communications.
I'd definitely recommend anyone wanting to go into journalism to do a similar degree and I'd study it again if I had the choice.

SomePosters · 18/02/2022 20:15

I am studying health sciences

Everything’s moving so fast right now I know much of what I learn in first year will be outdated

With MRNA the face of healthcare is going to change so much

stargirl1701 · 18/02/2022 20:18

Went to Edinburgh. Honours teaching degree. 20+ year ms teaching now so very relevant.

I can't imagine recommending teaching as a profession though. Too much micro-managing and so inflexible. We have long holidays but only 40 days are actually paid holidays.

Jellykat · 18/02/2022 20:20

Fashion / Textiles, i loved it and yes i am a part time seamstress, taking on commissions, but also sell to galleries and shops.

My DS1 however has a degree in professional musicianship at a very hi brow private uni, he got a first.. his mates got signed, made the charts, then they all got so disillusioned, DS1 went off to work as technical lead in a successful web design company! (which he still does)

TyrannosaurusRegina · 18/02/2022 20:26

I did two degrees - microbiology, then nursing. The nursing is very relevant to my job as I do currently practice as a nurse, however I'm looking to retrain in something else.

4intheCorner · 18/02/2022 20:29

Aerospace Engineering. Spent a few years in the industry and other engineering roles, but now self employed in an unrelated industry, but still technical.

I wouldn't do it again. Hated every minute of it, but loved my year in industry.

cptartapp · 18/02/2022 20:32

I did a Health Studies degree after I'd qualified as a nurse just to prove that I could. Did it in two years. Got a first. Decided not to climb the career ladder so it made no difference to anything really in the long run. Enjoyed the degree itself, but wouldn't do nursing again.

TheUnexpectedPickle · 18/02/2022 20:34

PR and Communication, back when media degrees were en vogue and the media world was lucrative. Recession hit halfway through. I never worked in PR or media and I've been a paramedic for the last 7 years.

Would do uni again if I had my time again but would do medicine or law.

itstrue · 18/02/2022 20:36

Marketing degree here. While I love the research aspect of Marketing my personality isn't a good fit with the industry. I'm not a natural salesperson. I would have been better to do something in research.

Sunnytwobridges · 18/02/2022 20:40

Computer Information Systems. I never got a chance to work in the field unfortunately. Not sure if I would do it again, maybe I would if I knew I would work doing it.

However I had to do it again, I don't think I would go to university. it didn't pay off for me at all. Maybe I would certified to do something - less time and money involved.

Pebbles16 · 18/02/2022 20:40

English Lit & Language (with TEFL qualification). Loved it - would actually love to do it all again. Relevant to my job and my volunteer work and a continuing passion.
