If you haven't got your door number displayed please get some stick on numbers or a sign. I have recently started working for Royal Mail. I can't believe the amount of doors without numbers on. It's so hard trying to deliver to the right doors a lot of it is guess work.

Other services must struggle too like Ambulances etc.

Thank you Star

I agree OP. I used to have a job going to homes and it drive me mad too. I feel sorry for delivery drivers and taxi drivers.

Sparklingbrook · 16/02/2022 07:13

I remember when I used to help DS on his paper round sometimes. it's like people don't want to receive any post. Confused
All the grief that delivery drivers get too for delivering to the wrong address-possibly not always their fault.

Nosnogginginthekitchen · 16/02/2022 07:13

We got complimented by a takeaway driver for our clear house numbering and the fact it has a downlighter above it. He spent a good minute praising it Grin made us realise how tough it must be if it's not the case!

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 16/02/2022 07:32

Yes!! My work involves making assessments at client’s houses and it’s so difficult when there is no house number…many hours spent driving up and down residential streets desperately looking for a number!

Zingy123 · 16/02/2022 07:32

It's so hard. Some roads are 1,2,3,4 others are 2,4,6,8 others could be 1a,1b,1c,2a,2b,2c.

I went into a block of flats the other day there were about 30 flats all the same brown doors and not one had a number. It's infuriating.

The number of times I've gone out to a cardiac arrest and it is impossible to find the house. It's like people want to not be found!!

Calyx72 · 16/02/2022 07:33

I agree! This should be a nationwide campaign (wherever you live)!
Carers, community medical staff, deliveries and more. None have time for the guesswork, counting doors, trying to guess by bins with numbers on. And then closing the wrong door after all that!

NiLunNiLautre · 16/02/2022 07:33

I'd love to be able to put a nice clear number in my door!
Unfortunately, there are no street names or numbers where I live. It's a village with only named houses. Quite a big village, though, so people always have trouble finding us and we're forever giving out directions.
Pain in the bum.

Calyx72 · 16/02/2022 07:34

*choosing the wrong door

GeneLovesJezebel · 16/02/2022 07:34

There are people who don’t want to be found

Triotriotrio · 16/02/2022 07:34

Also, people who live on roads with just house names rather than numbers, if you are going to make it difficult to find your house by not having a number, at least have the house name clearly in both directions on the road. Especially if the road is 2 miles long and they all have house names rather than any thing helpful like a number or a sign.

Nonbio46 · 16/02/2022 07:36

I totally agree with you. I might sound a bit ott but I think it should be a legal obligation to display your house number clearly. I don’t understand why people don’t. Good luck in your new job op. 😊

Zingy123 · 16/02/2022 07:37

House names are fine but you get one where someone has decided to call their house a name in the middle of numbered houses. They always seem surprised when you struggle to find them.

@Nonbio46 Thanks 😀

And when you finally locate the right house... and the comment is...'everybody knows we live here... we've been here for 20 years'....
Like.... yeah.......

Totally agree about it needing t be a legal requirement.

Gorzabee · 16/02/2022 07:46

My drive is on an angle so you cannot see my front door from the pavement but you can see my bins placed which I put my house number on. I also have a sign with my house number and street on because I live near to the entrance of another street and have had delivery drivers walk up my drive, see the sign and turn around. This is also under a light so it can be seen at night.

BabbleBee · 16/02/2022 07:46

I’m a community nurse and understand your frustration! We look for bins a lot of the time, people seem happier to number their bin than their door!

I agree op. I have been a community nurse in the past and it can be a nightmare! I don't think people realise how important it is in an emergency if you ever needed an ambulance, you don't want them wasting valuable time looking for you.

Zingy123 · 16/02/2022 07:49

Yes I agree the wheelie bins are usually labelled they help. Some street designers should be shot. We have streets here with two completely different streets houses opposite each other with no street signs. It's not so bad in the daytime but it must be awful in the dark for ambulances, taxis, takeaway delivery drivers etc.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 16/02/2022 07:50

I raise you working in community nursing in the arse end of no where, most of the houses all look the same and not one will have a house name or number, add to that a lot of these places also have no Mobile signal! I now use what3words with mixed success

Potatosaladfiend · 16/02/2022 07:51

I used to work at a local authority and residents would call up asking for a service for “rose cottage”. After much toing and froing they would be mighty put out when reminded their house was actually ‘12 main street’
Those who did officially change the property name would also be flabbergasted to discover they needed to define the village/town. Because there were in fact 60 odd ‘rose cottage’s (that definitely weren’t all cottages) in the area.

UserPotato · 16/02/2022 07:51

I agree too. I was dropping my dd off at a party last weekend and I was saying to her 'look at the house numbers so I know when to stop' and there just weren't any. Confused

Zingy123 · 16/02/2022 07:51

Our sat navs don't seem to be updated as new estates are not even on there. I use my phone a lot for Google maps.

OP posts:
Faevern · 16/02/2022 07:52

The worst for me are the estates of maisonettes or urban villages where I think the planners were on acid. The blocks don’t even follow each other in street name. I think oh there’s number 46 I want 48 I go to the next block and it’s a different name arrgh! Number 48 is behind or at a right angle or under the bridge. I feel so vulnerable when visiting these places, everyone can see your a visitor because you are walking looking up at the names, scratching your head or on your phone asking for directions.

I can’t imagine trying to post their mail.
