How many towels would you expect for a 25 day stay?

We have a little 1 bed Airbnb. It's usually only ever rented for weekends but we have a couple coming to stay for 25 days soon. They are happy to make their own beds etc and so I'm leaving them with all linen and towels for the period and we will collect a sack of the dirties every week. I'm leaving 4 sets of bed linen but I'm totally stumped as to how many bath towels, hand towels and shower mats to leave them though!

Weekenders are easy with a bath towel each, and a shower mat and a hand towel
Me and DH are happy to use a towel for a week or so so my instinct is to leave them with 4 each but the towel related threads on here makes me think it's not enough.

How many towels and specifically bath sheets per person would you expect to be left with for a 25 day stay in a small Airbnb? And is a bed linen set a week sufficient?

Two towels a week each,or at least one every 5 days. One set of bedding per week is fine. You could be generous and leave an extra in case of emergency? (period leak etc)

Shellingbynight · 16/02/2022 08:34

When I stay at a holiday cottage I expect (and get) one set of bedlinen per week. I've never been offered a change of linen during that week, so I think one set p.w. is fine.

I usually change my towels about every five days, but again in a holiday cottage we get one set per week. I'd be nice to have two per week but in your circumstances with water conservation I wouldn't expect it.

NewYearNewMinty · 16/02/2022 08:36

I think 4 changes of linen is fine.

Towels, 2 sets per person, per week.

Make it clear they are welcome to ask you if they need anything extra.

Imworkingonit · 16/02/2022 08:37

I'd expect one set per week for both towels and bedding.

cookiemonster2468 · 16/02/2022 08:40

Can you just ask them?

Just say you are happy to give them new towels a maximum of X times per week but you like to be as environmentally friendly as possible so ask for them to let you know their requirements?

fussychica · 16/02/2022 08:43

We do long stays and have always received 2 sets of bedding and towels as there's a washing machine available. I think it's part of the deal when getting a significant discount that I wash my own linen and towels. I can then do it as little or often as I want.

LaBellina · 16/02/2022 08:46

I change the shower mat every 3 days or so, so 2 or 3.
I change bath towels after using them after 3 showers / baths but it depends on the person.

Hand towels get changed daily here.

The numerous "why is my electricity bill so high?" threads make more sense in the light of this thread!

toomuchlaundry · 16/02/2022 08:51

@LaBellina would you change your towels so much if you had to rely on your own supply of rain water?

Why do you care about that @toomuchlaundry?

ButterMeTimbers · 16/02/2022 08:55

I'd expect one set of each a week.

saraclara · 16/02/2022 08:56

I can only assume that many people on this thread have never booked a holiday cottage or flat.
One set of bed linen and one set of towels is standard and perfectly adequate for a week.
I think I I've booked a place that had one extra set of towels on the airing cupboard.

But it seems very wasteful to be buying extra. If you're going to be picking up the dirty stuff weekly, why not do an exchange? That way you'd halve the number of items you need. Just wash what you pick up and return it the following week.

toomuchlaundry · 16/02/2022 08:57

Because it seems so unnecessary to wash towels so much. Easy to do when you can put your head in the sand and ignore the impact on the environment, probably not so easy if you have your own tank of water so you can see the impact of excessive washing. I am interested to see where people’s priorities would lie.

LaBellina · 16/02/2022 09:00

Funny that @toomuchlaundry because you literally have no idea how I live my life. You could be a lot more wasteful then me in many other aspects and you’ll never now.

I think 4 sets of linen is enough. If you book a week away self catering they don’t change the sheets midway. Personally I’d leave them 8 towels and four hand towels each, four bath mats between them. If they use lots they will be in the linen bag just wash and return the following week.

I used to rent out a cottage and do one bath towel and hand towel per person. Stack of spares in utility. Rarely were extra towels used but if they were it was only bath towels.

@mydogisthebest you do realise you might die because you share a bath towel with your DH, just think of the germs!

In that article it says that bath mats need washing often because they get walked on throughout the day!

Who leaves their bath mat on the floor? I put the mat down before I get in the shower and then pick it up once I am dry.

I know. I am sitting here wondering how we have survived for 42 years of doing so!

To be honest when we were first married (and young) I doubt they were washed as often as they are now. My memory is too bad to remember

toomuchlaundry · 16/02/2022 09:11

OP also says it’s a hot summer where they are, so assume wet towels won’t hang around damp for very long

8 big towels each, 4 smaller ones for hair. I would expect 4x bedding.

LaBellina · 16/02/2022 09:23

We have a very small bathroom with a floor that is damaged because it’s wood and water got under it. We have no money to replace the bathroom or the floor so we keep the mat right in front of the door that opens to the part that is the ‘wet room’ (just a tiled room with a shower head and a bath). The mat also protects the floor in front of the sink that otherwise could get wet often. I have a toddler running around so we do have water splashing around when there’s handwashing.
I think I have explained myself enough now.
I honestly don’t understand why people get so nasty because someone washes their towels more often then them. If it was for my DH he would wash his towel daily because he’s from a culture where cleanness is sort of divine and where everything is obsessively and tidy. I also don’t come on other threads to attack those that eat meat every day (we eat vegetarian half of the time) buy fast fashion (most of what we buy is second hand) or use a dryer (we line dry all of our stuff).

Howareyouflower · 16/02/2022 09:23

@Isausernameavailable

I think you need more than 4 sets of linen unless you'll replace weekly when you pick up the laundy; for a 27 day stay with 4 sets they would be on for best part of a week which is a bit grim.
A bit grim? How often do you change your beds?
