Your favourite Glam rock records

This genre spans a few artists and a few years. Mine, in no particular order, are:

Poppa Joe - Sweet
Children of the Revolution - T.Rex
Ride A White Swan - T.Rex
Gudbuy T'Jane - Slade
Every Day - Slade
Dynamite - Mud
Shang-a-Lang - Bay City Rollers
Virginia Plain - Roxy Music
I Love You Love Me - Gary Glitter

NB. I know the Bay City Rollers had a sound and strong image of their own but their peak coincided with the Glam era.
Roxy Music had a Glam image before they became arty and progressive, then very commercial.
We all know Gary Glitter is a very unsavoury individual but I want to separate the man, such as he is, from the music. So I have included one of his better records here; he
DID make some great records. No question. He is also a shit. No question. Ends disclaimer!

Get it On TRex.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 15/02/2022 20:56

Blockbuster Sweet
Children of the Revolution T Rex.
Roxy Music- all of it.
New York Dolls Jet Boy/Personality Crisis

These are all songs I’ve liked as l got older. I was about 9 or 10 when it was around.

However l do remember the Bay City Rollers as l was a bit older.

I think Shang a Lang was my favourite and also Saturday Night.

I watched some programme on The Ramones. Apparently their ‘Hey ho Let’s Go’ was based on Saturday Night!

Like the Ramones too

The Glitter Band also made a handful of good records in their own right. I have always thought of my Mum whenever I hear 'Goodbye My Love', right from when it was a hit in 1975! The other good thing about The Glitter Band is the distance between them and Gary Glitter. They were simply his live band and did not appear on his records.

Too lazy to cite individual songs!

Early Queen
Slade
T.Rex
Donny Osmond
Gary Glitter (yeah I know but feel better knowing he gets no royalties now)
Roxy Music
Sweet
New York Dolls
Norman Greenbaum - Sprit in the Sky
Chicory Tip - Son of my Father
Wizard (were they 70s or not till 80s???

Oh and Run Run Run by Jo Jo Gunne

MrsTophamHat · 16/02/2022 09:01

Ballroom Blitz by The Sweet

GeneLovesJezebel · 16/02/2022 09:02

Tiger feet. Grin

HunterHearstHelmsley · 16/02/2022 09:15

@Deathraystare

Wizzard were 70s, they'd disbanded by '76

I love glam! Even though I'm a 90s child.

Dynamite by Mud is one of my all time favourites. This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us, Queen Bitch, Mama Weer All Crazee Now all rank as well.

NellyTimes · 16/02/2022 09:18

Wig Wam Bam - the Sweet
Metal Guru and 20th Century Boy - T.Rex
All The Young Dudes - Mott the Hoople

Deathraystare · 16/02/2022 09:25

Ooh yes. Mott the Hoople
and Suzi Quatro - was mad on her!!!

Deathraystare · 16/02/2022 09:27

@HunterHearstHelmsley

Thanks for that and reminding me about Sparks!

Its going to be in your head all day now!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 16/02/2022 09:29

Ooooh Sparks. Love them!

Deathraystare · 16/02/2022 09:30

Regarding Gary Glitter - Now I know he does not get any royalties etc I have been happily listening to Rock and Roll part 1 and 2 on you tube. Must say I prefer to watch The Joker dancing down the stairs than GG on stage!

PAFMO · 16/02/2022 09:30

My oh My by Slade.
Just love it.
I saw them live every Christmas in a little biker's pub near where I lived.
My favourite T-Rex would be Life's a Gas.

I'm afraid I don't think unfortunately you can separate Gary Glitter from his music knowing what he was doing whilst he was making that music. Also saw him at university.

Yeah but it is a fine old tune so I don't mind! used to rather fancy Ron Mael!!!

Deathraystare · 16/02/2022 09:36

Oh and Brian Eno who apparently got more girls than Bryan Ferry!!!

mogschristmascalamity · 16/02/2022 09:43

coz I love you by Slade

Although my absolute fave is the acoustic version noddy holder sang in The Grimleys on TV. I may have bought the soundtrack for it Blush.

Some great ones listed by PPs. I now have a soundtrack for my WFH today.

absolutelynotfabulous · 16/02/2022 09:56

Saw Slade in concert just before Christmas. Dave Hill is weeny and had to stand on a box to be seen Grin.

I was a teenager in the early 70s so lived through glam rock times. My favourite band was the Sweet but also loved Slade, Wizzard etc. Where do I begin with favourite songs though? Tough one that!!

Also loved Mott the Hoople but not sure if they're glam as such...

So many good times. I remember the day my mother sent me to get spuds from the local shop during the top 20 countdown ( a Tuesday lunchtime if I'm correct) and I was in tears because I didn't think Sweet's new release Hellraiser had charted...got home to hear the top 5 and Hellraiser had gone straight to No 1 Shock.

Has anyone mentioned the Rubettes yet? Loved Sugar Baby Love.

Not sure if Bowie would qualify as a glam rocker but I think Jean Genie and Rebel Rebel would definitely qualify as songs.

absolutelynotfabulous · 16/02/2022 09:59

Forgot Suzi Quattro. I wanted to be her - all leather and attitude.

StrawberryPot · 16/02/2022 10:04

The Joker dancing to GG - one of my all time favourite film scenes. In fact I'm going to have to go and watch it on You Tube right now!

All these songs are the songs of my youth. Particularly loved Sweet, T Rex and Mud.

I'd say he qualified as glam in the Ziggy era, definitely.
