How do you get a bag less supermarket delivery?

How do you get the stuff into your house if it's all loose? Haven't had a delivery for years.

Carry the crate in

OhFuckBloodyHell · 13/02/2022 19:01

Chuck it in the washing baskets at the door.

womaninatightspot · 13/02/2022 19:01

Carry the crate in; empty onto table, swap for the next one.

pompousceremony · 13/02/2022 19:01

So they wait for you to empty it all into your kitchen?

What Redsnail said - carry the crate in, put it in a chair, unload on to kitchen table, carry empty crate back out. We put everything away once the delivery driver has left.

Cosywosy · 13/02/2022 19:02

We use two washing baskets and transfer from delivery crate to basket at front door. Works well for us.

xyzandabc · 13/02/2022 19:03

Crate is on doorstep, I take it out of the crate and chuck it on the hallway floor behind me. Then take it from there to kitchen at leisure after the driver has left. Alternatively if there are other people in the house, I shout loudly and they all come and move the stuff from hall to kitchen.

@pompousceremony

Yes. They wait while you empty the crates onto the table/sides then you put it away when they’ve gone.

Yes they do. Back before Covid they’d carry it in and chat in the kitchen while we unpacked it. But it generally doesn’t take very long.

@pompousceremony

Yes but empty it on the counter, not empty in to cupboards (and wash as someone said they’re still doing on one of these threads)

Sometimes items go missing from my delivery so now I count them as I unpack then just check the total number of items matches that on the delivery note

gerbo · 13/02/2022 19:03

Yes. We get around 4-6 crates from sainsburys. Even on my own, takes 5-10 mins to unload. They return the crates to the van as I go. With 2 of us, it's 3 or 4 mins. Drivers expect you to unload. If wet, I just wipe the kitchen floor after the crates are gone.

ChittyBangs · 13/02/2022 19:04

I just bring my bags for life to the door and load into them

OddBoots · 13/02/2022 19:08

We moved to Morrisons when Teso stopped doing bags as I am disabled and line in a townhouse with a narrow hallway and the kitchen upstairs. When I was worried I would have no choice I thought I might be able to use Ikea bags to unload into in the hall.

Redlorryyellowduck · 13/02/2022 19:13

Carry the crates. Dump freezer stuff by freezer, fridge stuff by fridge etc. Return crate, get next one, repeat until done.

Vanillaradio · 13/02/2022 19:14

We just put our normal shopping bags by the door. Crate is put on doorstep, we unload everything from crates into bags and then driver takes crates away and we bring shopping into kitchen in the bags.

MorganSeventh · 13/02/2022 19:15

I have four or five of those stackable crates, which I put by the front door when expecting a delivery. They put the tray on the door step and I unload the delivery into different crates so frozen stuff in one, fruit and veg in another, chilled in a third etc. It only takes a minute or so to unload. Then I shift the crates to the kitchen and put things away when the driver has gone.

Qwill · 13/02/2022 19:17

I put everything in a blue ikea bag at the door. Takes seconds. When I had my hands full with the baby, the delivery driver brought the crates in and unpacked them on the kitchen table for me - was very much appreciated!

SilkySusan · 13/02/2022 19:22

Morrisons still deliver in bags (for a fee - refundable if you hand bags from last time back).
My elderly in laws use Sainsburys and find it very difficult carrying everything not in bags. They would like the option for bags but there isn't one. I think Sainsburys should offer older and disabled people bags (or just charge for them as they would in a shop)

Iggi999 · 13/02/2022 19:24

I used to put into laundry baskets - a driver suggested carrying them through so I carry the crate through and basically Chuck the stuff on the kitchen floor. Is much quicker for me. I would prefer if there was some deposit/crate scheme as I do feel under pressure to do it fast!

MountainAshley · 13/02/2022 19:25

I take bags for life out to the van. The driver puts the crates on the floor and I fill my bags. They'd bring the crates to the door but it's just as easy for me to go to the van.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4473620-Waitrose-delivery-with-no-bags?pg=1

Thread from last week re similar. Seems various difficulties with kitchen location/what floor you live on etc.

I just take crates into the kitchen. empty and give back.

2022sucksalready · 13/02/2022 19:33

Ocado do bags (they charge for them, then refund you when you return them on the next shop). Other supermarkets I use a couple of crates and my reusable shopping bags and put them into those at the door.

WalkingOnSonshine · 13/02/2022 19:33

Bags for life at the door.

My worktops aren’t always clear enough to just empty stuff directly onto them.

For elderly or disabled Tesco will carry your shopping into your kitchen still. I’m disabled and they always offer to do but like you @OddBoots I prefer they don’t. They are also very happy to pack it from the crates into your own bags if you ask
