What job do you do :)

Pure nosiness really.

What job do you do, do you enjoy it, would you recommend it ?

I'm a welfare rights advisor, and yes I enjoy it, ( although it often leaves me with a higher than average hatred of the Tories ), and yes I'd recommend it.

I assess professional qualifications. It's a bit repetitive sometimes but I really enjoy it on the whole. I have a lot of autonomy and great colleagues and it fits well around my Primary age DC.
I used to be a secondary teacher but I felt like I was a social worker as much as a teacher and I'm not qualified for that. It was also poor for work-life balance other than the holidays.

coronafiona · 13/02/2022 20:53

Marketing manager, but I wish I worked in HR.

Duckduckduck123 · 13/02/2022 21:42

PennineWayinSlingbacks · 13/02/2022 21:42

Community fundraising manager for a well known organisation which primarily saves lives at sea (does other preventative work as well). I absolutely love it!

@allfurcoatnoknickers @Allsorts1

I think a lot of this stems from a misconception amongst the general public that charities are majority funded by individual donations whereas in reality it's a tiny minority. Therefore there's a lack of understanding about fundraising from trusts & foundations, high net worths, commissioning of services etc. and the skillset that's needed to develop and sustain those relationships, plus manage a portfolio of restricted donors and manage to cover all the costs. From my experience as a funder, good development staff make all the difference.

EmmaMaya · 14/02/2022 00:22

Secondary teacher . . I love it but it took finding the right school/Head to be so happy in my role!

Babysharkdoodoodood · 14/02/2022 00:33

Public Contact Officer at a police station. Yes there are still some open Grin

More money than when I was teaching. 3 earlies, 3 lates and 3 off. No taking work home ( although I am wfh atm, doing the online stuff) Can be (ahem) interesting at times.

No worries about what to wear, just sling on my uniform. We call it Gods' waiting room at work as most of us have got 10 years or less until retirement Wink

Absolutely love it and it's less stressful than I worked in dispatch.

mydino · 14/02/2022 00:37

A barrister

allfurcoatnoknickers · 14/02/2022 15:16

@PrisonerofZeroCovid Yes. Absolutely. I think people also don't understand how the accounting works. The money I spend on a train ticket (or a flight) to see donors isn't money taken away from the people in need/the scholarship fund/the crumbling building/the three legged cats. It's money that can only be spent on travel and there are likely strict rules about how much I can spend per year.

@PennineWayinSlingbacks Waves to fellow fundraiser. I absolutely love my job too! Get to spend most of my time having lovely chats with people and then improving lives. What's not to love?

Night Care Supervisor in a dementia unit.

That sounds interesting! Tell us more!
RagzRebooted · 14/02/2022 15:23

Practice Nurse. Love it, I was really lucky to get the job straight from uni. I would hate working on a ward. Just got a 17% pay rise (I asked for it) so feel I am reasonably paid for what I do compared to many jobs but still very low paid compared to others. But way more than I'd ever earned before I qualified (age 34).

Ooh this sounds like a nice job actually.
SmellyWellyWoo · 14/02/2022 15:27

Civil service contract manager.

bluechinavase · 14/02/2022 15:29

Film extra. Not a career but it’s fun and you get paid. I have a certain ‘look’ so get quite a bit of work coming my way.

WeAllHaveWings · 14/02/2022 15:29

IT Business Analyst. Usually enjoy it, it depends on the project(s) I am working on and the capability of the PM.

tammyjess · 14/02/2022 15:33

I'm an investment writer in the city. Not my dream job but the money is good and I like the people I work with.

PhoboPhobia · 14/02/2022 15:53

I work in clinical commissioning. It's not exactly a thrill a minute but I enjoy it and it is well paid. I work in a really nice team but there are lots of ridiculous organisational politics which can get a bit much sometimes. I'm senior enough to earn what I need but not so senior that I am stressed out of my mind!

janj2301 · 14/02/2022 16:06

In the early 90s my daughter demanded to join the boys rugby team, private school in Edinburgh. PE teacher and Head said noway, she went to the school governors (she's still real PIA). Didn't get far but they do girl's rugby now.

buddylicious · 14/02/2022 16:52

@allfurcoatnoknickers

My job got a right slagging off on here this week. I'm a Director of Fundraising for a big non-profit (in the US, but did the same job in the UK).

Mumsnet thinks I should do my job for free Grin.

What people don't realise is that if a charity employs the best people (no doubt with a high salary) then this is beneficial to the charity as more money will no doubt be raised etc!

My friend is a foster carer. People don't think she should earn what she does. They forget she's given up a career to do it and has a mortgage and bills to pay in order that the kids have a roof over their head! She hasn't had an evening or weekend off for years. She'd earn more and have lots of free time if she'd stayed in her previous role.

People are very narrow minded!

whatdoidonowffs · 14/02/2022 19:17

Recovery driver for the AA best driving job I’ve ever had
No hassle get to drive nice cars and meet interesting people and get paid for it 👍👍

allfurcoatnoknickers · 14/02/2022 19:55

@buddylicious I appreciate that everyone on this thread seems to get it Smile.

Your friends sounds like an amazing person who absolutely should be paid.

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 15/02/2022 08:31

Agree totally @buddylicious

I know someone who's job is to recruit helpline advisors and call handlers for a well known charity. If the charity didn't pay someone to recruit those crucial people they wouldn't be able to do the amazing work that they do.

Currently a social care worker and work with adults with additional needs. In 2 months will be qualifying as a social worker so a career change is imminent.
Hey, I wondered if you'd be able to PM me as I'm just starting out along this road and am keen to know your experiences. Thanks.
