Pure nosiness really.

What job do you do, do you enjoy it, would you recommend it ?

I'm a welfare rights advisor, and yes I enjoy it, ( although it often leaves me with a higher than average hatred of the Tories ), and yes I'd recommend it.

I used to be a nursery nurse working in a baby room before I became too disabled to work.
I absolutely adored my job and all of the babies. It was great. All the fun of babies and can hand then back at the end of the day!

i help in the acquisition of various materials and items of stock, that can be resold to other companies and individuals, which then the profits are reinvested into providing different medical and personal equipment and transportation to medical facilities so their injuries can be treated in a rapid response.

StillMedusa · 13/02/2022 00:27

TA in a special school. Poorly paid, challenging, but the kids are awesome and I may get bitten, hit and licked regularly but I am never bored! I just wish the pay was better!

allfurcoatnoknickers · 13/02/2022 00:45

My job got a right slagging off on here this week. I'm a Director of Fundraising for a big non-profit (in the US, but did the same job in the UK).

Mumsnet thinks I should do my job for free Grin.

Veterinary nurse - I qualified at 50 after a previous career in research. I love my job but its underpaid and under valued. The veterinary industry has gone corporate and some companies are only after money. Working for such a company nearly broke me but now I work for a company that prioritises the patients and I'm happy. Piss poor, but happy 🤣

You should try being a nurse! They always take a bashing on here.

i can understand the argument about how profit is divided when its non profit, but if the running and organization was left up to part time or full time volunteers, what happens when they are off or they change roles, or they can only invest so much time, or if you have a different manager each day for the whole running of the company, ect all these points id love to see a detailed plan from fellow mumsnetters

Adult Speech and Language therapist in an acute setting - despite the pressures at the moment I have several 'wow' moments a week where I am amazed by someone's progress/ achievement. It's tiring but hugely rewarding!

Damnloginpopup · 13/02/2022 07:31

Very lazy journalist for the Daily Mail 😁

Flatandhappy · 13/02/2022 07:41

Mediator and Child Consultant - it was a good way of putting both my law and psychology qualifications to use. I regularly see both mums and dads behaving appallingly and no matter how hard I try some are so focused on their own hurt and bitterness they refuse to see how damaging their behaviour is to their kids. It is stressful and often depressing (and the pay is crap for the qualifications required).

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 13/02/2022 07:43

Team leader in a care home for adults age 17-30 with challenging behaviour, learning difficulties and autism. I used to really enjoy it, bit not so much now. I would recommend it if you enjoy never being able to switch off from work!!

camperqueen54 · 13/02/2022 07:44

Senior lecturer in a university. I mostly work from home, the job is interesting and it pays quite well.

Student Support at a university. I do like the actual job. I strongly dislike the institutional chaos and the managerial incompetence.

@strawberrymilkshake123
I’m interested to know how you get into welfare rights advice.

I think I’d enjoy that.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 13/02/2022 07:47

Infant school teacher.

Love it, so much fun, variety and amazing colleagues. We work incredibly hard although a large proportion of mumsnet seems to think our ilk are lazy shites. No two days are the same. The children are fascinating, hilarious and incredibly endearing. I come home after 11 hours exhausted but happy

Lekky12 · 13/02/2022 07:48

I am a Geologist and Project Manager for a Drilling company. No two days are the same and despite the insane stress levels and work levels I love it. I love rocks.

niceupthedanceagain · 13/02/2022 07:51

Social prescriber working in GP surgeries.
The model is supposed to be signposting to healthy and social activities, in reality it's a cross between a suicide helpline and a buffer between the GP and broken housing/benefits/mh system.

Still I used to be a social worker and it's less hard than that

SkipRecap · 13/02/2022 07:55

Vlogger within a specific craft interest group. I do it mostly for fun, but it pays a small salary too.

Careylisa · 13/02/2022 07:57

Scenic Artist/Prop Maker/set Dresser for theatre, tv, film and events.

MrsGatsby99 · 13/02/2022 07:57

Teacher. Despite lots of negative press, love it. Really rewarding. Never bored.

bumblingbovine49 · 13/02/2022 08:04

I work in the planning and market research dept of a university. It is a good job, excellent employer with really good employee support and benefits , really nice colleagues in my department and a great manager. I find it a bit stressful but that is because I find all jobs stressful. My ADHD means I haven't had a job in 30 years where I don't have to work longer hours than everyone else to deliver the same outcome.

None of my colleagues seem to work very long hours though so I would recommend it . It isn't brilliantly paid as most universities don't pay their professional services brilliantly ( with one or two exceptions) but it is not bad

Killergigglebunnies · 13/02/2022 08:08

School Secretary in a prep school. A hell of a lot I’d admin and organising kids and staff. Calendar organising, school website, messages to parents, parents’ evenings, proof reading reports, boarding, cctv, complaints and general juggling act.
Not staying much longer as it’s badly paid, but suits with the school holidays. Paid better than my last job in banking.

fizzypiggy · 13/02/2022 08:08

I work in PR for an agency absolutely love it.

I've done it for ten years and spent 6 in a junior/mid level role.

However there's been a huge boom in the need for PR/online marketing services but also the culture in agencies being more accepting to parents (workforce is generally young and no children) so I've been riding the wave and I'm now in a director role.

Police officer. Everyone hates us, strong chance of getting assaulted, shit hours, unmanageable workload, fairly rubbish pay. Recommended for total masochists at the moment - I think we're the most hated profession on MN right now.

(Note -.I care deeply about my job and there can be parts of it that are incredibly satisfying and worthwhile).

No one I know hates the police, me and my children think you're brilliant. Any experiences we've had with the police have been very positive.

My dad was in the PF for the whole of his career and they have my respect x
