How is the lemon served at the table?

So imagine I'm serving a stack of crepe type pancakes. Sugar is in the naice serving sugar bowl - how are the lemons served? I usually juice them and decant into a small bowl with teaspoons on the side so each person sprinkles the juice as and when. But is it better to serve wedges of lemons instead or someway else?

Exactly what I was thinking, but the aldi/Lidl own brand that comes in a bigger sized lemon for half the price

Haha, I use an Aldi bottle as well, but the old fashioned squeezy lemon looked better.

I’ve wrapped lemons in muslin to catch the pips when squeezed
Cut in half place cut side on a square of the muslin and tie with yellow ribbon
A bit twee but have had nice comments

Thank goodness I make Scotch pancakes- don't need to fanny about with lemons!

A squeezy bottle Grin

But when I do lemon wedges with fish I put them in a little ramekin.

Muslin wrapped around a half or a quarter 🍋 . Eliminates the seed and rogue squirt problem. Must be the finest muslin or you would need Arnie to squeeze it for you. If not going for that option use chunky half moon shapes, should get 12 per lemon

Kshhuxnxk · 12/02/2022 11:58

I don't like lemon so don't worry about mine!

Hopefullyoneday12 · 12/02/2022 12:23

Wedges. But actually I like the bottle of M&S lemon juice they bring out near pancake day, it's lovely and tastes very fresh. Easier.

RelentlessForwardProgress · 12/02/2022 12:29

Every time I've eaten smoked salmon at a posh restaurant i've gotten a half lemon wrapped in a muslin square tied with a ribbon.....At home its wedges on a saucer at best and big plastic lemon on the table at worst

I serve lemon wedges in a small bowel

...I don't reckon the lemon would be the guests' concern in this scenario. Grin

We have little squeeze things you put the wedge in.

Disclaimer: I’ve used the twice.

If your guests handle the lemon their hands will potentially get sticky. So you’d presumably have to serve them?

I’d have thought a lemon squeezer would therefore be the order of the day. And in covid times this would help you not touch the lemon with your bare hands.

Although the muslin bag sounds good and the jug sounds very practical, I confess I have no social food presentation skills …

PupInAPram · 12/02/2022 13:02

@Letsleepingcats

Hmm wedges but honestly enough with the 'naice' word it's just awful
@Letsleepingcats Amen to that!
lucillelarusso · 12/02/2022 13:04

A lemon half wrapped in muslin cloth per person. DH is v posh, I am not. He taught me this.

BethDutton · 12/02/2022 13:07

Half wrapped in muslin ideally (traps the seeds but lots of juice) otherwise wedges.

Lemon wedges.
The individual wedge squeezers intrigued me until I remembered that that was what they had in Indian restaurants in the 1980s when you ordered onion bhajis and salad.

PigletJohn · 12/02/2022 14:06

Silver lemon squidger to the side of the dish of lemon segments that you pass.

And sugar in a caster, obv.

VodselForDinner · 12/02/2022 14:10

Cut in half, visible pips removed, wrapped in a piece of muslin, tied with a ribbon that coordinates with your china.

Any other way is just peasantry, of course. Barbaric, even.

Do you decant the jar of Nutella into the crystal jam jar you got as a wedding present?
