What do you do for Valentine's Day, if anything?

Those of you in relationships, particularly well past the honeymoon phase?

I feel like we start bothering less and less each year.. we're never ones to go out for awkward meals and do the forced consumerism thing, but sometimes we do something to celebrate it the weekend following, or make something nice at home etc. Just keen to see what everyone else does, maybe get some inspiration! Together 20 years and we do nothing - still very much in love just see it as a bit pointless really!

DepthOfTheAbyss · 11/02/2022 22:20

We have a nice dinner and dessert.
Might bake a cake and we’ll all have it (with dcs)
Dh sometimes buys some posh chocolates on the way home from work if he goes in. He’s happy to work from home these days though.
It’s not a big deal but nice if we do mark it.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 11/02/2022 22:21

It clashes with another celebration so we gleefully celebrate that instead albeit we don't go out due to the obvious. It's a lovely excuse!

Agree, hate the forced consumerism and the awkward restaurant full of couples with all the tables 4 inches apart. Always a limited menu and it costs a fortune.

Nice dinner sometimes, depending on other commitments. Once I went out wit a friend, nothing sinister or romantic it was the only day both of us were free.

travailtotravel · 11/02/2022 22:30

Bit if a gift usually. Maybe a nice dinner. Wine from the good shelf (am a non about wine) Not cliched or twee stuff.. I've been horrible to live with recently (meno) so let's see where the land lies this year. I got the gift for him regardless.

BertieBob · 11/02/2022 22:32

22 years in and we do nothing, we haven't for well over a decade. I'd rather spend the money on something else.

Shouldhavebutdidnt · 11/02/2022 22:32

Twenty odd years together, I firmly believe that we should show our love every day in whatever form that takes rather than buying into commercial crap of a ‘love day’. And don’t even get me started on Valentine’s Day for kids….

emmetgirl · 11/02/2022 22:34

We ignore it. It's just nonsense. I tell DP I love him every day and so does he.

Fetchthevet · 11/02/2022 22:39

Last year OH gave me a Double Decker and I gave him a Twix.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 11/02/2022 22:39

DH will set up the coffee machine for me before he goes to work, so I just have to switch it on when I get up. Same as he has done everyday for 25 years. I'll make him a lovely homecooked meal for when he gets home. Same as I have done pretty much every day for 25 years. As PP said, it's about showing your love consistently throughout the year, not just blagging it for one day.

Juniper68 · 11/02/2022 22:43

Not much usually as we prefer to treat each other as and when. But going to a nice hotel near us for a meal as it's walkable.

We're pretty romantic anyway.

whiteworldgettingwhiter · 11/02/2022 22:44

Dh just cooks me a nice meal. We do cards. That's it.

CPHB2021 · 11/02/2022 22:49

Approaching a decade together.
Always mark it, nice meal or takeaway but always at home.
Card and flowers/chocolates.
We buy our DC a little token gift and card too, to show our love.
This year I've ordered some brownies and cookies from an independent bakers. Hubby will likely send flowers to the office as I am in on Monday. X

ILikeItLikeThat21 · 12/02/2022 00:15

Together 12 years. ❤ we've always bothered. Even with 2 kids. We get eachother lovey dovey cards and presents and we either go out or dine in.
This year we're going bowling.

We've always made that effort though, valentines or not! We're both romantics.

Davros · 12/02/2022 00:18

Never done it, never will. Married 30 years this September

Sunsetsupernova · 12/02/2022 00:22

I think we’re planning on doing the M&S dine in for 2 deal. I also know DP has some pretty big and expensive plans for my 30th in a few weeks so I feel like I should give him a little token gift for Valentine’s but I have no idea what.

humourme194 · 13/02/2022 18:29

It sounds like he's planning to cook me something.. but I agree with everyone that isn't into the idea of going out. Think we've done it once in 15 years!

As I pay less into the bills and mortgage, I got him a jumper and a video game.. and a card but I can't do mushy ones it's more of a witty one. Totally agree with everyone who says we don't need a day to do these things, however I'm a fan of a themed day so do like to do something.. just a wide swerve from all the tacky teddy bears, chocolates and plastic tat!

Nothing. I work in a supermarket and see all the chocolates that are just repurposed for whatever the current occasion is. It's all very wasteful.

Been together 15 years and we don't see the need to show love with money.

ClariceQuiff · 13/02/2022 18:35

Been together nearly 20 years. We'll exchange cards tomorrow and I've bought something special (goose) which my husband will cook for dinner.

We don't go out for dinner as in my experience for any 'occasion' meals you pay over the odds for indifferent food.

TheChosenTwo · 13/02/2022 18:41

Nothing here, just another day.
We went out once, when we had just started going out, and it was full of people like us - young, in love, holding hands over candlelight and jammed in elbow to elbow with other couples doing the same!!
Never went out for valentines again, or celebrated it really. I think occasionally he has bought me something if it’s coincided with something I had mentioned I was going to get anyway but it’s really a non event for us.

Kitkat151 · 13/02/2022 18:42

Nothing

Ribenery · 13/02/2022 18:55

I'm working tomorrow so I'm cooking a steak tonight and got a creme brûlée for pud. Dp normally does all the cooking so it's a treat for him that I cook!

Pegasussnail · 13/02/2022 19:00

We always swap cards and dh get me flowers. I get him chocolates.

This year dh got dc teddies BearGrin they were over the moon with them. Went for Sunday dinner today though that was more of a break from cooking than valentines. Together 15 years married 11

FoamBurst · 13/02/2022 19:06

We do a card as I'm a sucker for a nice card.
Gifts we don't tend to bother although dh did go out today and got me flowers, choc and a pick and mix as have fancied one all weekend
Never do a meal out.

Moonflower12 · 13/02/2022 19:07

We do cards and a gift- something we want each but probably wouldn't buy ourselves. I've got him some aftershave he has run out of.
