would it be worse to be banned from your local tip or your local pub?

An answer that is age dependent I feel. For me from about the age of 25 - definitely the tip would have been worse.

Pub. You can get a mate to go to the tip for you.

TabithaTittlemouse · 10/02/2022 17:47

How do people get away with not going to the tip? What do you do with rubbish that can’t go in the bin?

Plumface · 10/02/2022 17:53

I leave it outside your house. 🏠

Tip definitely, our local pub is dire and we never go there.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 10/02/2022 18:00

I'd be fine with being banned from both. I've never been in any of my nearest pubs, they're all a bit dodgy looking, and I'm already not allowed into my local tip because I don't have a car in which to arrive (people aren't allowed in on foot). I have been to the tip a couple of times in my life when a friend drove. If I was personally banned and needed something taking to the tip, I'd ask around friends for someone who was planning a trip there to see if they could take my item.

Anything I don't want anymore that's useable I sell/donate to charity/freecycle. Any large items I want to get rid of, like a mattress and bike recently, my council have a bulky items collection and I use that. Anything else just goes in the bin

Pay for a bulky waste collection from home for larger things, or shove smaller things at the back of a cupboard until a friend is taking a trip and asks if I need anything taking.

I've never been to the local tip or the local pub so I really couldn't say!

SoManyTshirts · 10/02/2022 18:14

Pub … I occasionally have breakfast there and use their wifi.

Tip is completely inaccessible to me as a non driver.

Bigassbeebuzzbuzz · 10/02/2022 18:19

Pub, I can always send ds1 to the tip for me. Dont want to send him to the pub for me Grin

TheChosenTwo · 10/02/2022 18:22

Based on the fact that as an adult I have never once been to a tip, I’m going to say the pub!

AppaTheSixLeggedFlyingBison · 10/02/2022 18:22

Tip as round us your only eligible to visit one tip. Whereas I have lots of pubs (and never actually visit my local)

Hawkins001 · 10/02/2022 18:26

@DinaDirvla

My MIL was banned from our local tip for stealing. GrinBlush
Some tips, I don't understand as once I saw a person giving a chair to another person , before they put it in the scrap section and the person got told off by the recycling person, but I always thought yes your on their land, but until you have placed the item into the scrap container, then it still belongs to the person who's about to scrap it ?
NeverDropYourMooncup · 10/02/2022 18:27

Not fussed about the pub. It's a) a Shitespoons with delusions of grandeur and b) I don't really drink at the best of times.

Already effectively banned from the tip. You're only allowed to use it if you have a car.

What would piss me off would be if I were banned from the gym or Waitrose, as that's the only supermarket round here that has a better stock range than three sad looking packets of gluten free biscuits and a mouldering, sweaty plastic pack of wraps at any given time.

I don't think I've ever had rubbish that can't go in the bin. Kitchen fitters had a skip.

A skip? The scrap man? The council collection service? A friend? I can fit an awful amount in my bin though
Floralnomad · 10/02/2022 20:36

As I do use the tip occasionally but never go in pubs I’d rather be banned from the pub .

TheChosenTwo · 13/02/2022 09:40

We get skips for renovation stuff and we have a rubbish man that comes and collects anything we need getting rid of.
Dh has been to the tip before but these days we just pay John and he comes immediately with his truck Grin

BakewellGin1 · 13/02/2022 09:51

The tip... I have a good clear out several times a year

They also have a section for old toys and clothes recycling so handy

Ours is quite close so I also take all my household rubbish just before we go on holiday and before Christmas... The first so its not sat smelling for 4 weeks if we miss the fortnightly collection and the second so that I have plenty space for all paper/cardboard as I can't cope with overflowing rubbish

Kitkat151 · 13/02/2022 09:55

Tip

Lifeslooser · 13/02/2022 09:58

As a youngen, the pub.
As an adult, the tip, because I have a understanding of the significant consequence of that, what a pain in the bum! I could easily find another pub.

drspouse · 13/02/2022 09:59

Tough call now I think about it. The pub that's our "local" is rough as rough and I've been in once for a children's birthday party during which we had to lend DS ear defenders to a friend of DD. The one across the road though is a staple for nice meals out with kids or visiting family.
There's a tip about 20 mins drive away we could use instead of the nearest. But the nearest is next to the swimming pool and Asda so it's very convenient.

DropYourSword · 13/02/2022 10:01

I'd rather be banned from a local pub.
Can't keep a tip in my pantry but it's perfect for storing a bottle of vodka!

Thedogshow · 13/02/2022 10:06

This is fascinating. How do you get banned from the tip? I love going to the tip and I do always feel worried I could be breaking rules unknowingly.

longwayoff · 13/02/2022 10:16

The tip, until the early nineties, was a big hole in the ground into which everything was chucked. Old Sofa? In it goes. Old wallpaper, bricks, unwanted theatrical sets, extra household waste etc.? Everything. Artistic tip workers had rescued some of the more interesting stuff and made a surreal wall of it: a particular feature was a 12 foot Neptune with trident together with a couple of mermaids, various unwanted decorative items from a passing funfair and a collection of plastic greenery. I can't do it justice, wish I had a photo. It was worth a visit just to see it. Anyway, I have no use for a pub, and there are many, so I'll stay on the good side of the tip please even though it's now a sterile, regulated but sanitary tip. It's certainly a lot more fragrant.
