Has anyone had a uterine ablation?

I have had enough of very heavy periods.
After years of trying various things they are still heavy.
The gynaecologist has suggested a uterine ablation. I am done with having kids and love the idea of no periods but there are some horror stories online about Post Ablation Syndrome. I stupidly joined some FB ablation groups and the stories on there are so frightening, woman left in agony for months/tears after or needing urgent hysterectomies.
My gynaecologist says it’s rare and worldwide 3 million women have had an ablation.
Has anyone had one?
What was your experience?

I had one 5 years ago and it completely changed my life for the better. I still get really light periods but they are barely there. I had mine here in Canada and they used twilight sedation (really weird). Totally recommend it. So pleased to no longer be a prisoner to my periods.

@Twizbe glad you're doing ok. I take it you had a general anaesthetic? I'm having a local with mine Confused Have you booked time off work?

Yeah I had a general. Tbh I didn't want to be aware of what was happening lol.

I'm a SAHP so don't need any time off. Husband is back at work tomorrow though so I have to be with it enough for the school run lol.

They said I have a high pain threshold so should be ok, I'm not so sure. But I do think the recovery from GA can be tough.

I only work one day a week at the moment, I've booked that day off as its quite a physical job. Good luck for the school run tomorrow Smile

I had one with no problems at all. It didn’t do what I needed it to do and so I ended up with a hysterectomy a few years later. But the procedure itself was fine.

I finally had mine today! Last one was cancelled. Had it under local, was excruciating but only for a few minutes.

Spent the afternoon feeling nauseous and have just been very sick, hoping it subsides soon. The pain is like period pains and generally fine but with the odd bad wave. Spending the weekend resting and recuperating.

I had endometrial ablation done this morning under general anaesthetic and it was fine. I was anxious because last time I had a GA (for tubal ligation) I went into cardiac arrest during the procedure, but they took extra precautions this time and I had no issues.

About 7 months ago I had a polyp removed under local anaesthetic and it was extremely painful and unpleasant. The EA and tubal ligation, both done under GA were significantly easier.

Weirdly I have had no bleeding at all and it’s been 8 hours since the EA op. I bled very, very heavily after polyp removal so I’m a bit apprehensive about there being absolutely no bleeding or discharge at all today/this evening. Has anyone else experienced this?

I had an ablation done 4 years ago and had no bleeding afterwards or anything and after my period is so light it's unbelievable
Wish I'd done it 10 years ago!

Thank you so much for replying, that’s put my mind at ease! Really hoping I get the same result as you did. Glad it worked out for you.

Thanks again 😊

I had my ablation 5 yes ago. Best thing for me. I had mirena first to try and stop heavy periods but felt awful all the time. Ablation done under light general anaesthetic for me went well home same day took it easy for a couple of weeks. No more periods after that. I did hear that if you have it done when the lining is at its thinest in your cycle it is most successful also there has been some research that showed it can cause an earlier menopause to happen , this seemed to be the case for me too but was no issue as I was more than done with periods!
