All restrictions to end this month?

Just saw this on breaking news.

That’s it - no more restrictions. Everything back to normal.

I’m not sure how I feel about it.

So happy to hear this 😀

NotJustACigar · 09/02/2022 12:53

I have very mixed feelings about this. Covid is rife and yet I've managed to avoid catching it so far as has DH but that's not going to last long if people with symptoms are allowed to be out and about.

Cheesecakeandwineinasuitcase · 09/02/2022 12:53

To me this reads as Boris trying to regain favour with his electorate.

In NI, no one has a clue what’s going on here, so god knows if /when ours will be dropped 😭

I don’t trust anything Boris says anymore so won’t be listening to what he says.

Absolutely fucking bonkers.

Half of my colleagues from a central london office are all currently at home poorly. This hasnt gone away.

Isolation when you are sick should be the absolute bare minimum to stop it spreading.

But it’s never going away is it?

We have to learn to live with it. If hospital admissions and deaths are reducing then at some point restrictions have to end.

Absolutely delighted with this. Y5 DD is on her second period of self isolation from school in 7 weeks, despite being completely asymptomatic. School were great initially, but this time round, they've sent home about 30mins of work for her to do, it feels like she's been completely abandoned. I feel a right mug for trying to do the right thing by testing her regularly, much to her detriment. Won't be doing any further testing in our house.

Butteryflakycrust83 · 09/02/2022 13:08

Can you point out what part of 'Learn' that is applicable?

What have we actually learnt and implemented?

Just say what you really mean, which is 'Lets just pretend it doesnt exist anymore.'

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 09/02/2022 13:08

Whoop whoop!

MrsPsmalls · 09/02/2022 13:09

Bet NHS staff still have to isolate. We are still isolating if a family member gets it. You just can't be giving this to very vulnerable patients.

LazySaturday · 09/02/2022 13:10

Do you think that'll include an end to regular testing in workplaces and daily reporting of figures?
I hope so, I think a lot of "cases" will disappear if we stop focussing on them.

ThoseFestiveLights · 09/02/2022 13:11

I’m slightly worried about sick people getting on planes etc. I’d like air travel still to include restrictions. Otherwise we’ll all just get I’ll when we arrived and be trapped in other countries!

ThoseFestiveLights · 09/02/2022 13:11

FlorrieLindley · 09/02/2022 13:12

Does it mean that if you test positive you can just go out and about, shopping, cinema, cafes etc., as if you didn't have it?

If that’s what I meant, I would have said that.

I have “learnt” to keep my distance respectfully, because I don’t know who is still anxious about covid or vulnerable. I have “learnt” to be meticulous about hand washing and sanitising, and may even continue to wear masks in supermarkets and the like.

Why are you so angry? What is you solution?

Are they poorly or have they simply tested positive? I expect it's the latter.

You shouldn't get trapped in other countries as the UK no longer requires a test to come back.
NotJustACigar · 09/02/2022 13:14

To me "learning to live with it" would involve learning to take sensible measures to reduce the risk of catching it such as people isolating if they have symptoms. This announcement means we haven't actually learned anything but are just going to ignore it. Great.

edwinbear · 09/02/2022 13:14

Yes, I expect so, much like you could if you have a cold, or a tummy bug, or chickenpox.

You won't 'test positive' though will you?

Yep and anyone who falls for it is naive at best.

I want sensible public health measures to last as long as they need to and no more.

The problem with isolation is that that government never provided enough financial support to those who couldn’t afford to isolate.

You....you dont go out when you have chicken pox.

Nor should you with a tummy bug.

FFS.
