Grocery shopping delivery or not?

MsMiaWallace · 05/02/2022 22:04

Do you get your groceries delivered? If not why not?
Do you actually enjoy going into the supermarket to do it?
Who do you use or where do you go?

I usually get mine delivered as I feel life's too short to stress in the shop in one of my few days off from work. Plus the stress of the tills, packing & unpacking does my head in!

I actually enjoy going to supermarkets, I like looking round, I like to see what's new, I like to look for bargains. Have never done a supermarket shop in my life and only order something on line if it's genuinely not available anywhere else.

But I work in retail (non food) and am just very interested in shopping habits, customer service, retail marketing etc. ( I know that makes me sound very boring). I love chatting to people in shops. Smile.

DiddyHeck · 05/02/2022 22:12

You can do this online too.

To answer OP, I've been getting a Morrisons delivery once a week for the past 8 years or so.

Ilikewinter · 05/02/2022 22:13

I like to pick my own fruit and veg, also if I shop online I buy the same things every week, by going in store I get inspired to try different things.
I always do scan and pack so no loading/unloading of the trolley, its sooo much quicker.

PuppyMonkey · 05/02/2022 22:15

The stress of actually doing an online shop and waiting for a delivery is also not nice.

I quite like going to a supermarket I know well and getting exactly what I want and then going home with everything I want. I can do a big Aldi shop in 30 mins.

LubaLuca · 05/02/2022 22:15

I don't find grocery shopping at all stressful, but I got out of the habit during the pandemic and now it's definitely more of a chore than a pleasure. I usually do click & collect for a time that coincides with being out in the car anyway.

Erictheavocado · 05/02/2022 22:16

We've been doing our grocery shopping online for over 20 years now. For a while we went back to shopping instore, when our delivery began to come from a purpose built warehouse rather than a store. There were a lot of issues and it was pointless shopping online when we would end up going to the shop anyway. For the past few years, we have gone back to online only. I'm grateful I don't have to go to the shop.

MyDogsSpeakItalian · 05/02/2022 22:17

We’ve done online food shopping for years, mainly Tesco, but sometimes Morrison’s. It’s so much quicker. I can’t remember the last time I went in a supermarket.

ellyo · 05/02/2022 22:18

I've just switched back to shopping in person at Lidl. We have a super saver pass for Tesco but it was just getting unjustifiably expensive and I'm not happy to keep paying an extra £60-80 p/w for something I could do in two hours.
We still keep the pass because sometimes I'm just too busy, or there's stuff we can't get at Lidl, but I don't think we'll return to delivery full time now.

MyDogsSpeakItalian · 05/02/2022 22:21

I’ve done an online shop in 5 minutes when I’ve been in a rush. I don’t find it stressful at all. As for waiting for it, I just carry on with what I’m doing whilst waiting for it.

QforCucumber · 05/02/2022 22:21

Like @ellyo we’ve just swapped back to in store shopping in Aldi after 2 years of weekly Tesco deliveries, I’m spending similar but getting lots more for the same spend - the Tesco Aldi price matches just aren’t enough to justify the similar spends. I also go alone, at 9am on a Saturday and DH has the kids - I find it a nice little escape.

What is stressful about it? Confused Sitting on your sofa pressing buttons then having your shopping brought to your door... genuinely don't understand why this is stressful.
iridescentpaint · 05/02/2022 22:23

And yes I have twice weekly deliveries. Used to be Tesco but have switched to Asda.

LouLou198 · 05/02/2022 22:24

I don't like grocery shopping, occasionally I get a delivery. I think I have tried every main supermarket, and have problems with every one, missing items or items going out of date either that day or the day after. I tend to end up having to go to the supermarket anyway so feel it's a bit pointless. Did find it helpful after having a c section and during Covid isolation though.

Another one who doesn't get this Confused

TiddleTaddleTat · 05/02/2022 22:25

Occasionally get an Ocado or Waitrose delivery but more often Tesco. But these days we do about 3 out of4 shops at Lidl because we get so much more for the same money.

Houseplantmad · 05/02/2022 22:26

I hate supermarket shopping and find it stressful and time consuming. I get a Sainsburys delivery once a week and will top up fruit etc through the week. It's so much easier and efficient.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 05/02/2022 22:30

I love food and grocery shopping. Too important to let anyone select my products for me . I like to see what’s available or on offer on the day, especially fresh fish. I have scanned in Waitrose for 20+ years, it’s a doddle. Sensible sized shops, no stress at all. Even got a week’s shopping free once when the scanner gun broke at the till.

MrsTimRiggins · 05/02/2022 22:34

I used to get asda deliveries as I have various pain conditions which make food shopping on my own rather hard but the produce just seemed to go further and further downhill and the price was ever increasing so I started to go to Lidl and then resented the price difference! To be honest, it’s still bloody hard for me to do the food shop but I’m now on maternity and so I go a couple of times a week as opposed to once a week/ten days so it’s easier.
Plus my son likes an outing, sometimes I need an outing and finally I get to sneak a McDonald’s on the way home sometimes Smile

Lampshading · 05/02/2022 22:38

I get most veg etc in an oddbox so tends to be cupboard stuff from the shops and aldi where I get most from doesn't deliver. When we have been isolating or really short on time online shops have been amazing though, so I think they're great but don't use one much as the shop we use doesn't offer them! Also tend to plan meals around the veg we get delivered which can be random so it's nice walking round to get some inspiration, helps that I pass it from work so not making a special journey as well

waitingpatientlyforspring · 05/02/2022 22:41

We do click and collect. Go before work, collect shopping, bring it home and unpack then head to work.

If I'm off I occasionally think, I'll not bother and go do the big shop and I always regret it.

RoseMartha · 05/02/2022 22:47

I get it delivered as it saves me time and I live in a flat with no lift and have problems with my back and knees. I started getting it delivered when I lived in a house to save traipsing round with the dc in school holidays when they were 4 and 5.

I find its better to keep an eye on what you are spending and no chance of being lured into offers you dont want.

At Christmas though I usually cant get a slot for two weeks which is a nuisance.

User0458832 · 05/02/2022 22:47

I get an online Tesco shop each week and do a couple of small shops in M&S and Waitrose, getting the bulk online of the mainly boring stuff means I can browse in these shops without a big trolley load to think about

Snozzlemaid · 05/02/2022 22:48

My first online shop with Tesco was just after dd was born. She's now 20.
I used it intermittently for a while after but as I increased my work hours I moved to an online delivery every week.
Rarely go to a supermarket now.

SquigglePigs · 05/02/2022 22:48

We get a weekly delivery. Usually Tesco but get a Waitrose one about once every 6-8 weeks for my favourites.

I love pottering around a supermarket/market looking for new things/inspiration but I hate doing a full shop. This way I get the best of both worlds - they do the big shop for me and if I'm in the mood I'll pop in and look for bits.

We started getting deliveries when I was going through a stressful/busy period at work about 6 years ago and I was doing 10hr days 6 days a week so didn't want to be faffed with shopping on my only day off. Then I had to start shopping in person during the first lockdown when delivery slots were hard to come by and it reminded me how much of a chore it is when you HAVE to do it, compared to just popping in when I'm in the mood.

pupcakes · 05/02/2022 22:50

Both!

Ocado every Tuesday night, Aldi every Saturday!

Been like this since Aldi opened last year in our town. Before that it was Sainsburys which I found too big and overwhelming so avoided at all costs. I'm happy with our balance now!
