Does anyone else have local cats they chat to? Or is it a me thing? 🤔

I was telling Mr NotHomeless earlier (( nicknamed by the dc and I because he's old and very scruffy but not homeless)) we have a long standing relationship, I have a photo somewhere of ds with him when he was a toddler and he's 21 now. He always runs over and blocks our path demanding some attention and a chat. I get quite worried if I don't see him for a while.

So he's the main one.

Then there's fat ginge. Huge, ginger and loves and ear tickle.

And ' the brick' so called because he sits in the middle of the pavement tapping his paws and refusing to move.

Anyone else?

I chat to more local cats than I do neighbours!

There's Rupert's Friend who used to come and chat to one of my cats through the window, Little Half-Tail who is a little fusspot, Ginge from round the back, Big Fat Cat who really is, Miss Fluffy, Criminal who tries to bully frogs and toads ( which I inevitably have to rescue from him) and a host of others

Our cat is one of those cats Talked About. There's a footpath down the side of the house next door and he hangs out there. A couple of weeks ago someone called to him on our porch saying "there you are X, haven't seen you in ages" and he did the whole starving cat routine - all caught on the Ring camera. He just had a tag with his name on him for ages so she'd remembered his name from way back.

There’s a fat ginger cat on my street I’m good friends with. I call him Captain Pickles but recently discovered his name is Milo, which doesn’t suit him as well imo

There's "midnight" who lives round the cornet and sometimes rushes over to say hi and be fussed.

There's "chatty cat" who seems to have quite a large territory. They used to be very friendly, rubbing around ankles and chunnering on like a sports commentator before randomly hissing. Now they don't give me the time of day.

FredBair · 05/02/2022 21:34

Yes there's Spare Cat who is feral and lives rough. Harry Smith on the corner and Old Grumpy who has half an ear and lotsof battle scars.

There is a local cat that seems to have a crush on DH, unfortunately for the cat the feeling is not mutual (DH had a bit of a fear of cats, whereas I love them). But I always stop to give her a stroke and have a chat!

DH is working on his fear and they are now at a stage where she will just sleep in our garden and watch him in summer while he is working outside.

I get quite a few neighbour’s cats in my garden after I turned it into a wildlife garden last year. They love drinking from the pond, chasing birds and hiding in the long grass. Thankfully they’ve not been pooing in the garden so far. I chat to them all the time.

purpleme12 · 05/02/2022 21:37

Well I don't care if they're local or not if they're a cat I'll stop and chat and take whatever love they want to give me 🤣

Badfootkk · 05/02/2022 21:39

Omg.i just thought it was me !!

mnahmnah · 05/02/2022 21:39

Yep. We always have a chat with Mr Puss. Lovely ginger cat, who loves somewhere on our street. He’s always hanging around wanting attention. No idea where he lives, but we have to stop him following us into our house!

Badfootkk · 05/02/2022 21:39

((( they are my friends)))

Poppins2016 · 05/02/2022 21:41

Yep. I chat to the local cats. It would almost be odd not to? 😇

Iamanicepersonreally · 05/02/2022 21:43

Of course 🙂
There's black thug cat who picks fights with the other cats, fluff bum who I see every day and fat ginger who stole my cat's catnip mouse 😻

EsmaCannonball · 05/02/2022 21:43

I've been feeding some poor, forlorn, starving, homeless kitty for months now ..... only it turns out she lives about six doors down and has been playing me for a sucker. (I shall continue to feed her as she sits at her food collection point in my garden with her sad eyes. I even construct her a little shelter out of garden chairs for when it rains.)

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 05/02/2022 21:45

Yes of course. Naturally I'm not worthy of his attention though!

Changethetoner · 05/02/2022 21:45

Not cats, but I do say "hello ladies" when I pass the field of sheep. And "hello boys" when I pass the field with the two rams in it. Every time, would be rude not to. They never reply.

Smokeybacon72 · 05/02/2022 21:52

Oh yes I go out every day with my own boy for a wee walk and know all his wee cat pals and enemies. His furry buds all come over for a clap when am allowed out on my own and his not chums look nervous but I still say hello. Think I'll forever be known as the bam who runs around trying to police the local cat population

Somuddled · 05/02/2022 21:54

I have a walk I go on specifically to see certain cats. I call it cat alley walk - it is a mile route and on a good day I will spot 7. There are 14 possibilities on the route (that I know of). I don't touch them though as I get very possessive if I see anyone touching my cat, so don't do it to others. If I need cheering up, I go on that walk.

FloBot7 · 05/02/2022 21:55

We have Neighbour-cat who lives next door. She's dainty and cute, invites you for a stroke then hits you for touching her. She looks like a Siberian.

Then we have our favourite, The Interloper, a tortie moggy. She appeared in our garden when we moved in and kept trying to make friends with our (angry, hissing) cats through the window. When they were allowed in the garden she jumped down and immediately started cleaning herself. It completely disarmed our territorial cat who was ready to pounce and after weeks of the same they developed an understanding of sorts. Eventually The Interloper let herself into our kitchen and helped herself to their food. It should have been the end but the territorial cat was so stunned she hid behind a corner and poked her head around to watch in confusion. The interloper's nonchalance has given us hours and hours of entertainment. It's been a few years and she's just seen as one of the gang now. They don't bother opening their eyes when she jumps into the garden these days and I've spotted them cleaning each other a few times.

Peckhampalace · 05/02/2022 22:29

Out front there is stumpy, with half a tail who can be very chatty and try to come in, OR run away like I am the scariest thing ever, no idea how he decides whether to chat or run.
Out back there are the "charity cats "(tails are completely different colour to body so it looks like they went to the charity shop and got the ones that fit regardless if colour). Scope comes in and talks and comes for fuss, Oxfam is more reserved but getting braver. (No idea if charity cats real names!)

MsAnnFrope · 05/02/2022 22:32

Absolutely. There’s Bad Cat who looks cute but terrorises my hapless gentle moggy. Next doors cat who treats me with the contempt I deserve.
Cow cat who is frequently told they do not live in my house but does not believe me. And cat that’s not my cat. He is ginger like my cat but is not my cat…
I have problems don’t I?

LaMagdalena · 05/02/2022 22:39

Yes! I also have special routes on which I can look for my cat friends and acquaintances.

StyxBankDweller · 05/02/2022 22:55

Oh indeed, I'll always stop and chat with a cat. Where I live now is more dog world with few cats, sadly. As a child I was friends with a cat that lived down my road. We used to walk most of the way to school together and he'd walk back with me at the end of the day. Most days that is. My only cat friend, I wasn't allowed pets. .

megletthesecond · 05/02/2022 23:03

Me. I know Roxy and Simba by name and always say hello and sometimes have a stroke.

Then there's "Samson", an un-neutered Tom who fights with everyone but he will say hello to me, "Cow-cat" (white with splodges, very friendly) and "Evil Roxy" (different eyes to nice Roxy).

HansChristianAnderfuck · 05/02/2022 23:11

Mad Max neighbours cat. Hair like 80s Mel Gibson hence nickname. Fighter. Hunter. Left me half a squirrel once. Was very kind to my kittens despite hating every other cat in the street.

Fangs. 2 white marks above his mouth. Good friends with one of my cats.

Fatty ginge. Live down the road. Very friendly to humans, terrorises his own kind.
