What would you wear on a business flight?

A few of my colleagues (including my boss) and I are going to a conference in the US. We're all flying together and I've never met these guys before. I was going to in what I call "smart joggers" and a nice cable knit jumper and a coat.y DH thinks this is beyond casual and should about wearing something else. I'm all about looking smart but it's a transatlantic flight and comfort to me is paramount. Do you think I'll look too dressed down?

I think you should go for the Carry Bradshaw SITC2 look. The one she wore for the flight to the UAE. Complete with hat.

@Onlyrainbows

Forgot to mention that I'm shortish 5ft2 and somewhere between a pear and a true hourglass. I have big hips for my overall size (I'm mostly an 8 but if fitted around the hips I'm more of a 10) so as much as the wide legged ones look great I think I'd look stupid
I'm a pear and those M and S stretchy wide leg trousers that @MaizeAmaze linked are very flattering on me. They actually look quite smart.

In my experience the aircon on planes is too cold. I have never felt hot on a flight.

I have these for all my comfortable but smart business dress needs, they are super comfy and don't crease. And they are organic cotton. Would hold up well on a long flight I'm sure. One of my best recent purchases.

As someone who used to get on a plane four times a week, there are two essentials.

Unwired bra so you don't set off the security. Plus more comfortable when asleep.

Slip on flat shoes for security again. Also when you go to the loo you can slip them on. They miss on the floor even in business class!

I usually wear a loose jersey or cotton dress with a cardigan and large scarf. I take thermal leggings for the change of tempersture.

If I wear an unwired bra i look awful. I just add10 minutes to sortout security, never had an issue with it. I can't sleep on planes anyway so again, a good fitted bra is not a problem.

I agree with the slip on shoes.

As someone who has flown quite regularly with business colleagues (lawyers), the outfits worn have generally been what is worn in the office, minus the tie for men (so suit or sports coat and trousers with shirt), women in suits or smart trousers and blouse. This may because the office attire is smart and they are quite likely to be going straight to the hotel for a meeting (even if flying long haul).

RampantIvy · 06/02/2022 12:54

DH used to travel business/first class long haul several times a year and he says that most people didn't dress in formal business attire. Most passengers wore smart casual clothes eg jeans and a shirt rather than a business suit.

Quick update! All the smart lounge trousers from M&S look horrible so I bought leggings instead. I bought some cute coots too! And now I'm undecided about getting some white leather trainers or not.

I flew first class a couple of weeks ago and I wore joggers, a hoodie and a padded gilet. And trainers.

Nobody knew if I was flying for business or fun and I want comfort on a long flight!
