Tesco emailing subs & unavailable, no printed delivery notes

That's it, in a few weeks time, according to our delivery man, Tesco won't be sending a paper delivery note. This morning DH got the first email to say what would be subbed, what wasn't coming and short dates. That's fine, but he insisted in printed it, then Tesco arrived to say in a few weeks time they are moving to paperless delivery.

So heads up, if you like a printed delivery note to check off your items you'll be printing it yourself soon. Not sure how the other supermarkets do it but I hate change, something else to get used to!

Had this for weeks/months. You must have been at the end of the roll out

namechange30455 · 04/02/2022 10:29

Thanks for the heads up OP. This is the only reason I didn't use Tesco so I may have to reconsider! Do you not think it's a huge pain not knowing what the subs are until they're on your doorstep?

Really? Have you found it harder? I do have missing items, even trays at times and unless I am sorting through the delivery as it arrives my DH never notices it :(

It's the missing things that I can't rely so much on my DH noticing at the time.

This is the issue I'm having at the moment @Redpriestandmozart
Last week, I went to make dinner to find no chicken breasts. Ok, no problem, I'll pop a bolognese on the hob.....oh, no mince.
But DH had greeted the delivery and packed it away. Because the missing items aren't listed he had no idea what should and shouldn't have been there. There wasn't even a sub attempt.
Most weeks recently no meat has arrived at all. Or milk.

We’ve had this for quite a few months and I was horrified at first. But now I’ve got in the rhythm of checking my emails first thing. It’s actually good to have the advance warning.

The only downside is I do the shopping online for my parents - who don’t have email so I have to warn them

SatinHeart · 04/02/2022 10:37

I haven't used tesco for ages but Asda/Ocado/Morrisons don't give you a printed delivery note.

Although if you're regularly getting missing items to the point that you need to tick everything off, that's not normal. Have you considered changing supermarkets?

thewomanacrossthestreet · 04/02/2022 10:38

Morrisons have been doing this for ages. Does my head in as the packers pretend it's all there and you get charged for it.. and there's things missing! Last week I was missing two lots of meat for dinner, phoned the shop to be told I was lying as they wouldn't of charged me something that wasn't scanned and refused to help me. phoned HR and got an immediate apology and refund and say a it's happened a lot since they stopped doing paper recipts. HmmShock

Rowgtfc72 · 04/02/2022 10:40

Not had one for a couple of months now.

AlternativePerspective · 04/02/2022 10:42

Sainsburys have been doing this for a couple of years now. And they send out the email prior to the delivery so you know what’s missing before it arrives and can make alternative arrangements if you need to.

If you’re regularly getting deliveries with e.g. no meat at all then I would change supermarkets regardless tbh.

But there really is no need to have a printed delivery note when you have an email address. If your dh hasn’t noticed what’s not there then that’s on him TBH.

BooksAndHooks · 04/02/2022 10:43

We haven’t had this yet. I don’t usually check each item, only if a whole crate is missing. I would much rather know if items are missing so do don’t have to do a late night dash to the shop.

RedCandyApple · 04/02/2022 10:43

GOOD!!! Every other shop emails it to you and tells you what’s not available and what’s been subbed in advance by email, Tesco’s is the only one that doesn’t I would prefer to know beforehand if things aren’t coming.

nordica · 04/02/2022 10:44

Ocado has been doing this for years.

I'm not sure I understand what the problem is? You get an email before the delivery that tells you about any missing items or substitutions. Then you know in advance and can let the driver know you don't want X but Y and Z are fine.

I always put the receipts directly into recycling anyway so maybe I'm missing something others do with them.

JassyRadlett · 04/02/2022 10:44

I’m just shocked at how often you have stuff missing - that’s awful! We do Waitrose and we never have stuff missing that’s not on the list of
‘Missing from your order’

Gazelda · 04/02/2022 10:46

I much prefer having the email receipt rather than paper.
I can plan for the subs during the day before the delivery arrives in the evening.
I always unpack the shop though, so generally know if there's anything missing from the border without having to tick things off the receipt.

MrHavelIsHot · 04/02/2022 10:48

We mainly use Tesco and have been paperless for a while. I prefer it but we have only ever had anything missing once and we’ve had deliveries for years. We’ve had extra things a few times.

PatchworkElmer · 04/02/2022 10:49

Had this from Tesco for weeks now- much prefer it.

TheFairyCaravan · 04/02/2022 10:50

We’ve been having it since well before Christmas. It’s not difficult to check your emails on the morning you know you’re having the delivery. I prefer it, actually, because I don’t have to make an on the spot decision about the substitutes.

RedCandyApple · 04/02/2022 10:53

I’ve never had anything missing from my delivery that wasn’t marked as unavailable. And I use Tesco’s every week

shinynewapple22 · 04/02/2022 10:55

I use sainsbury's. They've been doing this for ages. I can't imagine many people tick each item off - a quick glance down the list and you will surely notice if something was missing .

Babymamamama · 04/02/2022 10:58

This is common I think and better for the environment. I just check the email.

queenmeadhbh · 04/02/2022 11:00

This happened to me for the first time today and I was DELIGHTED - one of the things that always annoyed me about tescos was that you didn’t know what had been subbed or was unavailable until the delivery arrived. This way I can plan, or e.g. say to my husband before he leaves “tescos have subbed the ham for your sandwiches with turkey, do you want it or shall I send it back”. Rather than this sort of lottery of what will actually arrive.
I never check off items as I take delivery though. If I notice later something I’ve been charged for wasn’t delivered I ring them up for a refund.
Now the only thing tescos need to do is get on the online refund request like asda!

BendingSpoons · 04/02/2022 11:04

I have it with Asda and it's really helpful. I don't feel pressure on the doorstep to decide and can say to DH to reject certain items. I have never checked it off a list though. We did have a missing tray recently but she came back with it later.

Nidan2Sandan · 04/02/2022 11:09

I like getting the email early so I have time to think about keeping the subs or not.

Plus, a bit less paper to worry about.

Redpriestandmozart · 04/02/2022 11:10

So it's a much better system, thank you.

I did an online with Sainsbury's once and they did the same however there was still a receipt (like a till receipt) that came so I could physically mark it off at the kitchen table.

Thanks, I didn't realise my Tesco were so far behind.
