I wish Id never read anything about it. The top of my foot for arthritis. If it doesnt work I will need to get it fused and I really dont want to go there. Is there anything I can do to make it less painful?

Sorry, I don’t have the answer, but I am following this with interest. I am waiting for a doctors appt to discuss foot pain following a possible fracture that didn’t heal properly, years ago. I am really worried it will be arthritis and I have read about steroid injections as a treatment option. I really hope it isn’t as bad as you are possibly anticipating!

HollowTalk · 04/02/2022 09:16

I had that in my thumb joint and it didn't hurt at all. The pain relief lasted for three months. It was incredible. Best of luck!

Eileen101 · 04/02/2022 09:16

Can you ask them for some kind of numbing cream first?
I had a few local anaesthetic injections in my toe a few years ago and it was a bit unpleasant. Could you take some music and headphones to distract yourself?

I’ve had loads into my hips and SI joints. They really aren’t as bad as everyone makes out. Don’t worry about it, like my pain consultant says, no one takes time out of their day put positive experiences in the internet.

You will be fine, honestly. Flowers

Try not to look, concentrate on your breathing and ask to lie down if you think it might make you feel funny. Best of luck with it.

If worst comes to worst, remember it's a very brief pain in terms of duration.

ratsratsratsagain · 04/02/2022 09:22

I had one into my shoulder and it was fine and I'm a squeamish type. I used various visualisation techniques to stop myself getting panicked and it didn't hurt much. 48 hours later the pain was gone!
Good luck.

underneaththeash · 04/02/2022 09:27

I’ve had a shoulder one too and it was fine.

Randomdogbite · 04/02/2022 09:31

I’ve had one in my foot, it stung a lot but only for about 10 seconds but the results were honestly amazing and practically instant.

HelloKeith · 04/02/2022 09:34

A friend had one in her knee which gave her a massive blood clot which only went after months of injecting blood thinners daily. The actual injection was painless though! Lie down, take some headphones.

Daisypod · 04/02/2022 09:40

Had one in my elbow and was terrified after hearing people for years go on about how bad they are. I relaxed my arm, did some relaxed breathing and it was absolutely fine, couple of seconds of stinging like a mild bee sting. You'll be fine op

Crunchymum · 04/02/2022 09:42

I have arthritis (psoriatic) and it manifests in my feet.

I'm almost 4 year diagnosed and have only ever had one steroid injection. I had it in my back (to a while to work but once it did.... woo hoo!!)

I'm currently flaring and quite frankly I'd have a steroid jab in my eye if it would offer some relief.

Hope it helps.

Crunchymum · 04/02/2022 09:42

took a while to work.

watchmeflyhigh · 04/02/2022 09:44

I've worked with lots of patients who have had this and for many it is really effective and worth the small amount of pain whilst having the injection.

I hope it works wonders for you!

Paddingtonthebear · 04/02/2022 09:46

They will prob using a numbing agent. I had a steroid injection into my coccyx, wasn’t expecting it at all and it did hurt. I needed it again a year later and the second time wasn’t that bad. I think foot would be less painful. Good luck!

FelicityPike · 04/02/2022 09:50

I had steroids into both legs before having my preemie DD…….hurt like fuck.
BUT that’s probably a different kind of steroid.

Justkeeppedaling · 04/02/2022 09:52

Not bad at all in my experience. Just like any other injection.

KateTheEighth · 04/02/2022 09:57

I've had 2 in my wrist and one in my foot

They were quite painful at the time but it was so worth it because they gave me the most amazing pain relief

DidgeDoolittle · 04/02/2022 10:24

I had 4 into my toe joints. It wasn't nice, but it was quick. That was about 7 years ago and I have remained pain free.
My gp friend advised me to key off my feet for a few days ( completely off them) to allow for site to heal. This stops the steroids from leaking out of the joint.

Chishnfips · 04/02/2022 10:46

I had one in my ankle the injection was no worse than any other jab. The relief for the months afterwards was life changing for me. Was just enough relief to get my strength back to walk properly again.

EachandEveryone · 04/02/2022 12:12

Oh it was fine I couldn’t beleive I’d read about how painful it is. I quite enjoyed it really. One consultant and two registrars I wondered why they needed so many. I was expecting a technician to do it. It felt wonderful when the local went in. Fingers crossed it works. I need to look for some decent work shoes now.

Glad it went well, fyi when I had a steroid injection in my knee I was told to take it easy and rest for 48hrs otherwise the steroid would disperse before it got the chance to work properly.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 04/02/2022 12:40

good news
i had one in each elbow
felt a bit odd going in but i think they worked

EachandEveryone · 08/02/2022 17:06

I dont think its worked though☹️ For the first couple of days I did but now that im starting to go out and about the pain is back. I really dont want the op.

I had a steroid injection in my big toe. It was painful for a few days once the anaesthetic wore off then it gradually got less sore and I was pain free for months. Fingers crossed its just taking a while to settle down then it will be fine.
I've been offered fusion too but don't want it.
Good luck

SpiderVersed · 08/02/2022 17:19

Did you rest for the 24-48 hours advised? That's really important to get the best out of your steroid injection.

They didn't tell me that the first time and I went off all energetic and busy because I was finally pain free. Wore off so quickly as a result.
