Is there such a thing as a good ladies razor with blades that are on budget?

The refill blades are so expensive! Anyone found anything which works really well but doesn't cost the earth? The Bic ones ripped my skin apart and the basic Venus ones have no movement in them so can't reach those difficult curves. I've tried an epilator but suffer from horrid ingrown hairs.

@maffhew

I've tried every razor under the sun and find the pink aldi disposables brilliant.
This is what I came to say too.

Another happy estrid customer here.

Also no such thing as a womens razor! Only thing is it costs more

Just buy mens ones, They last longer and are cheaper too

KilljoysDutch · 31/01/2022 23:28

Safety razor! Mine cost around £12 and we got 100 blades I think for about £7 both DH and I use them and it's saved a fortune not to mention the lack of plastic waste.

TUGGY2006 · 31/01/2022 23:55

Aldi pink disposable all the way. And if you can get the mens king of shaves shaving gel to go with it in you'll have the perfect combo. Total game changer!!

musicalfrog · 01/02/2022 00:02

@Unmute

I have a double edge safety razor which cost about £30-40, but it'll last forever and the blades are well under £1 each. Plus no plastic waste.
Yes! I bought mine a few years ago along with some spare blades and haven't spent a penny since.
Dobbysgotthesocks · 01/02/2022 01:12

I have a bamboo one from Amazon with replaceable blades. Really really good.

Another vote for the Aldi pink disposables. They last forever! I’m still using one I started maybe October…

katnyps · 01/02/2022 11:48

Another for a safety razor here!

I have used Dollar Shave club for ages...

This 100%.

I currently have a Solimo razor from amazon but it doesn't give me as close a shave as the Gillette Mach 5 and as soon as I've finished the pack of blades I'm going back to Gillette.

Other things that helped with ingrown hairs (and I used to suffer terribly)

  • I use Nivea (men's) Cooling Shaving Gel for sensitive skin - if I'm ever away from home and forget it and have to use something else, I notice the difference the second I get out of the shower

  • I shave as soon as I get in the shower, before my skin has soaked up any water. This seems to make a big difference

  • When I get out of the shower, I pat dry the areas I've shaved, never roughly towel dry them!

  • I use an aftershave balm, Nivea is the best for me but Dove also do a nice one

  • I switched to pure cotton knickers instead of nylon/polyester, and without any lace edging. This has stopped me sweating (or if I'm exercising, it absorbs sweat) which really helps. You might also benefit from washing your underwear in non-bio powder, but I didn't need to do this, I find the other changes are enough.

This last point is assuming the problem is your pubic area, so if not, please ignore 😂

I have a Dollar Shave Club subscription which works well for me. New blades in the post periodically.

Hellopetty · 01/02/2022 12:34

@Amipreg1

I have an estrid subscription and it's changed my life! Best razor I've ever tried.
Is it really that good? I’ve swithered about it but I’ve been put off by them gifting them free to intstagrammers who are obviously raving about them as they are free
Amipreg1 · 01/02/2022 13:01

I felt the same but thought it was worth a try.
I used to dread shaving, I have very dark thick hair and sensetive skin and I would always be sore/itchy afterwards. Using the estrid razors has completely changed that. I've had it for over a year and can't imagine being without now. I only get the replacements heads every 4 months as I find they last ages so from a cost perspective I'm also really impressed!

You could always try it and then cancel if you're not keen. I'd be surprised if you were disappointed though.

Noname1999 · 01/02/2022 13:05

ffs is ok (but very pretty), but dollar shave are sharper and longer lasting

@Amipreg1 I completely agree with you! @Hellopetty I actually tried it on the back of all the Instagrammers starting to flog it and was half expecting it to be rubbish but I really love it 👍🏻 I also only get blades delivered every 4 months so cost is great 👍🏻
Hercisback · 01/02/2022 13:42

Safety razor and blades. I got one a year ago and have used 4 blades in that time. Zero waste too so benefits the environment.

I don't shave legs all the time in winter though.

Goldenphoenix · 01/02/2022 19:09

I have a FFS subscription. It's great - lovely solid metal base and they send you sharp new blades for it and recycle the old ones. I don't find it expensive and love the lack of landfill waste

Svara · 01/02/2022 19:40

I use a men's Harry's one. I bought a trial pack for DS and ended up getting a second razor for myself. I find it works well and it is affordable. The trial pack is £3.95 for a razor and shave gel then you subscribe for additional blades.

I have a referral code for £5 off when you sign up for a trial, you can cancel anytime (I get £5 credit too).
